They mimed (sp?) Love In Vain and Gimme Shelter on Ed Sullivan's. If I recall correctly, Keith mimed the slide parts on Love In Vain, while Taylor mimed the acoustic part.

Yes, me too. The upper bout reminds me a bit of a Newman Jones, but as it's about the only part we can see I really don't know anything about it.

Did I miss it?
Any pics of Keith playing the clear dan Armstring guitar in 69?

Hold on a second, found this in the rewiew from the Palais Royale Toronto 16/8 2002:

Torn and Frayed - Keith broke out a new guitar just for this one. I believe it may have been an Anderson. It appeared brown with a marble effect from my vantage point. The song worked. But even in this intimate setting I could tell now that there were lots of tourists.

Could it have been the one on the pic?

No, he used the Anderson for Torn & Frayed.

since checking previous pages in the thread to see the Anderson Cobra seems to be too much trouble:

- Monkey Man, jan 18th 2003 (from Four Flicks, courtesy of Open-G)

as the good Mathijs has said, it's the Anderson Cobra Keith used on Torn & Frayed, not the guitar in the David Allen photo.
and the Cobra wasn't new in 2002 - Keith was using it on the VL tour.

i guess you did miss it, Schillid - there are a few shots of it on earlier pages of the thread.
but then, since it's transparent it's easy to miss. :E

hey ... how did we manage to get this far in this thread without mentioning Electric Guts?!
Keith used it for Ruby Tuesday, Paint It Black and Play With Fire on the Steel Wheels and Urban Jungle tours;
it was made by Roger Sadowsky - here's a link to his site: [www.sadowsky.com]
and a link to a piece of a 1989 article that gives some details about it: [www.oldkr.co.uk]

- 1989 or 90, courtesy of sadowsky.com (don't know who took it, sorry!)

hope our wonderfully generous friend Chippy doesn't mind my reposting this great shot of it:

since it's come up on another thread, we'd better get it up here as well -
the Newman-Jones-made mahogany Telecaster in one of its rare 1981 appearances:

could any of our 81 Connoisseurs identify what show that photo's from, please and thank you kindly?

This phrase is cited from [www.timeisonourside.com].

Most rock stars wear stage clothes and then other clothes at home.
Keith wears the same clothes all the time. I think that's great. He's always Keith Richards.

Anyway, was six strings of Candy Apple Red Ted Newman-Jones smuggled to Astrodome show for Let me go?

It must be one of the early shows, as Mick isn't wearing the knee protecters yet, he started doing that after the first 10 shows. It's real sunny, the pic reminds me of San Francisco's Candlestick Park.

I think this picture is from Philadelphia. (2nd night)

It's taken by Michael Putland, BTW

I think so too. I do not recall all that scafolding behind the Candlestick Park stage.

Now I have a question re. the 5 string on Page 1. The pics from 73; the RFobert Knight shot and the following one. Is that surely the same guitar in those two shots?

Nope, those are 2 different guitars.
you can tell by the Pup selektor switch.
I think they had different pick-up's aswell - but I'm not quite sure about it.

Thanks Open G. So there were two different ones on the 73 tour. That pair of pics had been bugging me for a while, because I assumed the consensus here was that they were the same, but IMo they are different.
