Actually this guitar is tuned to open F#, half a tone down from open G.
the original recording of Doom & Gloom started off on D to F, live they now play it pitched down, C# to E.
the G chord in the chorus would now be F# which would be akward to play, hence the whole guitar is tuned down one fret.

Teles are overrated. Big time.
No matter which guitar you play, the sound is all in the player. I happen to love a good Telecaster. The one I currently own is by far the best I've had. Love the sound and playability of it. Love my Strat as well which is currently in my rotation. Haven't touced my Les Paul in awhile but like it for certain things...

True Grit = One well thought out and constructed Telecaster, Lollar pickups, a Fender Vibroverb, and a Fulltone...

Damn, I gotta go now

Not Micawber...lets call it Doom & Gloom Tele for now.

5-saddles Steel bridge. open neck humbucker. black switch tip. all dot marks in place.

The Tele in the Satanic Promo is a Lake Placid Blue or Placid Blue. I think it was a 67, brand new. Fender has recently reissued that color.

The other two....you got me. The second pic looks like he had a Rosewood neck put on. The body looks like early 70's.

To be certain I would have to check my Tele book

Milo, NYC
Its time to get up

It's either Sonic Blue or Daphne Blue. Lake Placid Blue is darker.

what is the deal with this open neck humbucker ? that's a new one that i have not seen before in keith's tele neck position. i am used to the gibson PAF pickups that keith has always used in the neck postion on his tele's

Surely you've seen "Sonny" the '67 Sunburst tele with the open & hot neck humbucker. so, not that new.

My guess is, this Tele used to be a stand-in for Micawber.
It got used regularly when the Stones started playing Doom & Gloom on the road.
The song got tuned down half a step, presumably to comfort Mick's voice in live settings. (see/hear the videos)

I assume Keith used Micawber to record D&G but for live on stage he needed a Tele tuned down 1/2 a tone.

yes i do know about the sunny tele , but that has a double black coil paf pickup in the neck postion with the nickel pickup cover removed .this one in the photo above looks like a double chrome coil humbucker and that's what threw me off .

The only answer I have to any Tele question is this:
Never let anyone borrow it, and never let it out of your sight.

I avoid these kinds of threads because my heart remains broken.
This was my baby - well, some guy's on a forum, but this is what I had: Blonde, Tele Custom 72, vintage.

I didn't even know what it was at the time - I played, but was not an electric guitar tech expert because I had always had an acoustic. This was my foray into electric, it was at some music story in Galveston...and the only Tele I could afford, and it looked cool because of the pick-guard. I found out later it was Keith's black Tele, so I was ecstatic that it landed on my lap.
I bought it for about $699...$699!!! in 1988.
Sometime in 1999, I let a friend borrow it, it was stolen out of his truck, or so he said. Years later, he told me what really happened. He needed cash, put it in pawn with the intention of getting it back out. And lost it.
It still hurts to this day, because you can't find these anymore under $1500.
I eventually bought a 98 American Standard Tele, sunburst to replace it. I love it.
But it doesn't have that cool pick-guard, and it's never going to be my first electric guitar.
Hold on to your Teles!

This one is a '54 Esquire called ' Gloria' its on page 578 in the stones gearbook.
Only on this picture it has a different neck pup, i guess Keith & Pierre are experimenting with different pups

The bridge pickup (with red tape) in Gloria is a Norwegian Cream T pickup given to him at the first O2 gig and installed in time for the Newark gig in December 2012.

Re: some Telecaster questions ...

The Cream Ts are a bit grittier-sounding than his normal Tele-setup.

Any info on why he didn't use Gloria on D&G in Werchter yet?

And still no info about the tele Keith used in Werchter for D&G. Never seen that one???

So Gloria is the same old esquire, but used with two different neck pickups?

No, this is another one. The one used for SA in Asia does not have a humbucker in the neck. Bruce Springsteen borrowed that one for tumbling dice in Lisbon. The one above used for D&G in Werchter have only been used one time as far as i know.

It must be custombuilt. Maybe a Bolin?

Re: some Telecaster questions ...

The neck is not a Fender. Not sure about the guitar.

The photo of this Telecaster is pretty low resolution, but the headstock branding looks vaguely like RebelRelic (who are, I recall, based in Amsterdam, which might fit with the guitar first having appeared at Werchter). Compare and contrast:

Alternatively, perhaps, a Nash, similar to this (but with different relicing and the humbucker):

So, what about the Telecaster Keith used for Doom And Gloom in Roskilde? To me, it looks like a blonde Tele with black bindings and a Strat-like headstock:
video: [www.youtube.com]

It's easy to see from 01:42 to 02.12

So now we have two "mystery" teles...
