Ehemmm - Seems like you're mixing some things up, Donny.

The Skull Tele and the Waylon Jennings Tele are completely different beasts.

ahem: what the good open-g said about the Skull Tele and the Waylon Jennings Tele -
see the links ... and as for that very pale butterscotch one with the whitish "halo":
if anyone has any good clear photos of it (especially on-stage photos) i'd love to see them, please please and thank you!
i think the only one i have of it is the one where it's waiting in Keith's guitar rack, and not much of it is visible.

>> Those "House of JB's" guitars <<

aka Bolin guitars, right? at least that's the name i know them under.
(what's "House of JB's"??) [passing popcorn]

House of JB = House of John Bolin I guess. His guitars were known under that brand a few years ago - see [www.musictoyz.com]

I think the logo on Keith's Telecaster still mentions House of JB but couldn't find a close up at the moment.

ah thank you Gwen [passing the rosemary breadsticks, if they'll suit you better than popcorn]
i've just uploaded a fairly clear photo of that pink & silver Bolin in the "Keith's customs & oddities" thread: [www.iorr.org]
now that you mention it, the JB on the headstock is pretty visible ... well, *almost* pretty visible :E

Thanks Gwen for setting that straight, I wasn't aware that Ronnie was playing his model too as I was totally focused on Keith playing that incredible guitar right in front of me at one of the Licks shows I attended... ;-)

BtW, it was the Helsinki show (Finland) where they got the guitars...

Of course you are right, I thought you meant the "Shine A Light" -Jennings guitar while you were actually talking about that "Skull-Tele". My fault, sorry.
Nevertheless, both very interesting Tele's, although I'm more of a vintage fan to tell you the truth (so I'm more excited with Micawber, Malcolm and their bros & sistas...:-)

@ soul:

sorry, I'm also aware now that the Bolin-Tele's already been talked about over in the "Customs"-thread.... ;-)

>> I'm more of a vintage fan to tell you the truth <<

i was about to say "same for most of us probably" - but in my case what it really comes out to is
a willingness to take an interest in any guitar Keith plays more than a few times,
which happens to mean more vintage than not.

one of my favourite facts: Keith and the electric guitar were delivered to this planet
at pretty much the same time, and there's very little that anyone can find to do to improve on those originals.
they just feed back a bit less now. :E [a round of popcorn & wasabi-coated peas for everybody]

I believe Keith got his earlier, maybe even on the US leg, as I think all Satisfaction I saw during Licks were played on this guitar.

Billy Gibbons gave Keith the guitar at the Licks show in Houston.

A very good view on Keith's white Schecter Telecaster, as used (only) on YCAGWYW on the '81 tour:

Does this one have a name?
5 strings, but all single coils. no capo.

What do you think that is on Keef's thumb? Is that light? Or some powder they might put on the neck?

talc - guitarists dust their hands with it pretty regularly.
you can Keith and Ronnie do it between numbers on a lot of concert footage.

And a non-original bridge to boot. I seem to remember this guitar cropping up on stage during the 40 Licks Tour but for all I know he used on stage well before that and I only saw it for the first tine in 2002. Anyone else?

He used it for Stray Cat and Hand of Fate on the Licks tour. As far as I can tell an original '53/'54 Tele.

I'm afraid it doesn't say where they were taken.

That would be a... yes! grinning smiley

But, is it the same guitar Brian is shown using during the JJF promo shoot!?

I guess he's talking about that one here:

Hey everyone, new here and I love this thread. I am totally into guitars and have had a Telecaster set up for five-string Open-G tuning since the first time I saw Honkey Tonk Woman transcribed in "Practising Musician" in the late 1980's. For christmas my son picked me up a DVD copy of "Let's Spend the Night Together" and I watched it right away. Now I have only seen the Rolling stones in concert in 1981 and 1989 so I am no expert but I swear the Keith used "Micawber" as his main open-G guitar in 1981 but in the movie he is always using "Sonny" as his main (no capo) guitar. I was just wondering and curious if anyone else thought that to be strange? Anyway both were great concerts,'81 at the LA coliseum with opening acts J. Giles Band, George Thorogood and Price for a very short set and then again in '89 with Guns N Roses and Living Colour as opening acts...I hope that they do a 50th anniversary tour!

pleased to meet you, TimmyM
since you're into guitars you'll probably find the Ratbag Boogie index useful: [www.iorr.org]
have fun! :E

Thank you with sssoul, that is exactly how I found this site, I was looking for pictures of Keith's Newman guitars. I have read many of your fine posts and I'm sure I'll be around often.

cool photo, Toru A - thanks! do you know who took it and when?
(Keith's shirt looks like the same one he has on in the Wild Horses sessions
at Muscle Shoals, but of course it can't be from that early.
pre-Nellcote 71 maybe? the late-72 GHS sessions?? when did Keith acquire that guitar???)

edit: the photo seems to have vanished from Toru-A's post, so here it is again:

Thats Malcom.

Wow GREAT shot of this 50's tele. looks original to me. Maybe been refretted. This is a sweet sweet looking guitar. East to identify by the wear where Keith's right arm hits the guitar. Been played a bit...

As far as the thumb dust, it looks like just a trick of the light to me. Pardon withssoul the only thing I've seen Keith and Ronnie dusting between numbers is their noses and there was little,if any, talc involved. lol I sure haven't seen any guitarists dust their hands in talc unless they were playing POOL backstage which is quite reasonably the case with our man Keith. peace

right - which is why Toru A wrote "BTW, this is another shot of Malcom" when he posted it.
i guess that kind of got lost in the shuffle, though. and the questions i asked about the photo
got answered: the shot's from the late-72 GHS sessions in Jamaica, and was taken by Koh Hasebe.

What hurts these great threads is when Philip's (HM's) photo accounts got wiped out. It is hard to follow the thread discussion.
