Sure it does,Í´m almost a big guitar-nerd as Mathijs, and I have spend many hours in one of my friends guitar-shop an may have checked out at least 100 guitars trough the years. So the Ratbag Boogie is the place for me on www, maybe I should start at band called The Ratbag Boogie Band? ;-)

Perhaps a little bit earlier during the dirty work sessions in paris. Keith wore these clothes and the boots too.

of course Anderson, not Henderson, stupid typo from my side. By the way, I recall seeing the rosewood board Tele a little earlier, perhaps even as early as the 1983 Undercover sessions in Paris.

Maybe the good Mathijs were lost in a daydream about Muppet Show ;-)

But didn´t Keith use the sunburst Tele for Don´t Stop for Licks Europe 2003?

Mathijs was just checking whether anyone was paying attention - i am i am! :E
it's from Mathijs that i learned it's an Anderson Cobra, so it's only fitting that i remember it well.

My dad got an LP named "Keith Richard Interview Rome 1988" (SYMPA 34666) and the frontcover shows Keith in a well-known position, playin´s hís Tele and a cig in the mouth..but the Tele Keith´s playin´ on the picture is blonde, white pickguard and got a humbucker in the neck-position and appearently in standard tuning..have anybody else seen this guitar before/after?

... this one, maybe? the shot was taken at the Chicago Blues Fest in june 86 -
Keith played three numbers with Chuck Berry; i reckon it could be a borrowed guitar.
and from the Why Do You Think They Call It Trivia Department:
Keith had just arrived in the States by the QEII a few hours before the gig.

If it's a 67 tele, I think specs are follows;
sun burst finish without cell binding,
flat grip,
pickguard was exchanged to one ply,
gibson's patent numbered humbacking pickup is escutcheon mounted in front,
sharler peg,
a vestige of bigsby tremolo unit on the surface.

[peering real hard:] ... sure doesn't look like a sunburst to me, Toru A.
you're describing Keith's well-known 67 sunburst, and although i admit i am easily confused,
that's not the one he's got in the photo i posted above.

here's the 67 sunburst:

Sorry if this topic concerning 52 was already exchanged.

Micawber is the name of Keith's main Fender Telecaster, named after one of the central characters in the Charles Dickens novel, David Copperfield.
However, in an interview a few years ago, Richards denied this, adding, "There's no reason for my guitar being called Micawber,
apart from the fact that it's such an unlikely name. There's no one around me called Micawber, so when I scream for Micawber everyone knows what I'm talking about."

Micawber is a 1952 butterscotch-coloured model with a black pickguard & a stock 3 way switch. The sixth string is removed, it's always tuned to open G,
with the following gauges: .011,.015,.018,.030,.042. It has replacement tuners & a brass replacement bridge with individual saddles,
and the nut is cut to accommodate 5 strings-they aren't evenly spaced across the fingerboard, but the first string is moved a bit to keep it from going over the edge.

Micawber is modified with a humbucker in neck position and an original Tele pickup in the bridge position.
It is warm & thick sounding & can be heard on such live tracks as Before They Make Me Run, Brown Sugar, Mixed Emotions , and Honky Tonk Women.

Although Keith owns a number of other similar models, two of which are named Malcolm and Gloria, Micawber is his main guitar
and accompanies him on tours and studio sessions.

For further information, please search and ask New York based guitar dealer Perry Margraf.

Jim Barber, guitar technician, would give us a clue if he has his own site.

Toru A honey, the Tele in the photo i asked about isn't the 67 sunburst.
that's why i'm asking about it: because it doesn't look like any of the ones Keith is commonly seen with.
and i have faith in iorr's gallant patient learned Guitar Connoisseurs - someone here will know something about it.

I could't find any clue as to this.

BTW, this is another shot of Malcom.

cool photo, Toru A - thanks! do you know who took it and when?
(Keith's shirt looks like the same one he has on in the Wild Horses sessions
at Muscle Shoals, but of course it can't be from that early.
pre-Nellcote 71 maybe? the late-72 GHS sessions?? when did Keith acquire that guitar???)

edit: the photo seems to have vanished from Toru-A's post, so here it is again:

Great shot! It seems to be from the GHS sessions in late '72, but I'm not sure. The guitar is a bit hard to recognise. Keith played the same guitar -with the tongue sticker - live in '75 and '76. Apperently he had the sticker removed for the '78 and subsequent tours (that is, if this is his number second Tele Malcolm).

thanks for weighing in on this, Mathijs - the grain of the wood really does look like Tele #2/Malcolm.
i don't think i've got any shots of it on stage in 75/76, but i'll take another look.

update! the good Toru A has identified that shot as being from the sessions at Dynamic Sound Studios in Jamaica,
november/december 72. the photographer is Koh Hasebe. way cool! a round of popcorn for everybody :E

and indeed i don't have any shots of Keith with that guitar on stage in 75/76, but you can see it hangin around behind the scenes:

1968 Rosewood Telecaster, tuners changed to Schallers. neck pickup cover removed. Used briefly for Let Me Go on the '81 tour, used on Let's Spend the Night Together for the rest of the '81/82 tour.

thanks Mathijs - that rosewood Tele looks plain black in some shots, doesn't it.
Keith's got it at the 81 Checkerboard Lounge gig as well, and it took me the longest time to realize that's what it is ...
but anyway! there are some posts about it on the earlier pages of this thread, Thomas B,
and that photo's by Charles Robinson. Hannover, june 6th or 7th 1982.

Does anyone know if Ronnie ever uses 5-string guitars? In the shot that Lady sssoul posted (by Sykes via Rockman) of the backstage tuning room shot in 75 Ron and Keith are warming up and behind them there are various axes. To the right of malcolm are tuning keys of something with 2 keys on the left. neck is too short to be a Bass. And headstock looks like Zemaitis. Maybe Keith's skull guitar? Or soemthing by Ron?
I am amazed how worn the frets are in Keith's SECOND guitar LOL.
Lady Sssoul the depth of your knowledge and archives grows daily. Is there a pic of the # 3 guitar around too?
