This live video from Ride Em On Down shows the guitarwork. Ronnie intro.

How does it show the playing on the album?

It would be very strange if it's the other way around on the album.
Never been in a band that turns this around voor a live show.

Ronnie takes the solo during live renditions of Wild Horses, yet it is Keith is responsible in the studio-release. Yes, it is Ronnie taking the intro in the live rendition of Ride 'Em On Down, but it is clearly, in my opinion, Keith's doing on the record.

Yes! Wonderful cover. They really managed to sound like that train again. And I think Ronnie's big sound and Charlie's superb drumming are responsible for that.

Instead of a Chuck Berry tribute album, why not link up in the studios with him and help him finish HIS album.
"Chuck Berry and the Rolling Stones"...has a nice ring to it.

I agree with you. When was the last time, Chuck Berry made a good album.

Oh, around 1979. The new one is a Monster!

Hi CBII!
I was hoping for Keith as guest on new CB's album! It would have been amazing!

It's Keith in the intro, clearly. Sounds like Keith plus it sound in the right, and Keith it's in the right all over the album, no doubt about that.

After the intro, it's Ronnie who does the catchy lick between verses.

Those are enough reasons, but, if you don't believe me and you know the Richard's sound in the last fifteen years, hear the way he hits the first note. No doubt it's Keith in that intro.

It was a hard 23 day wait, but Santa came thru with Blue and Lonsome and I am really enjoying it. Mick's vocals are strong and his harp playing, as always, is superb. Charlie's drumming sounds like he was happy to be playing something different for a change. The guitars and piano are very satisfying. I have always loved the Stones playing blues. In fact, as a young teenager, my first introduction to the blues was by the Stones. There was no internet back then. I knew of Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, but that was it. I would read interviews with Mick and Keith and they'd mention someone like Slim Harpo and out I'd go and buy a Slim Harpo record. I love the blues and Blue and Lonesome is a gorgeous Stones blues album. Every song is great on the first listen, like slipping on a comfortable pair of jeans. I am so glad they decided to record a blues album. It suits them and they did a fabulous job. No wonder the album sales are so good. This album was my favorite Xmas gift this year.

Why would this be nonsense? Perhaps it just made more sense in a live setting? It's quite clearly Keith playing the intro. I do wonder what is wrong with the ears of some here.

Listened to this for the first time Christmas Day, saved it as a present to myself although pretty tough. Thought it would be a fairly predictable but honest run through of some old classics. Totally wrong, they sound so damn good, been playing it non stop and it sounds better every time. What an absolute treat!

As is the case with most likely 100% of those on here, despite the fact that some try to pass themselves off as blues purists.

Right. Keith played it on the record LIVE, but bowed out for the live concerts? Bullocks.

There seem to be some logic issues with this statement:
First, no matter how many times the band starts the song again and then carries on until the end, it's still "live". They can do this until Keith get's it the way he wants. And that's obviously not possible in a live setting.
And you said there aren't any guitar overdubs on this record. So how can Ronnie simultaneosly play the intro and the rhythm guitar?
And has Ronnie used Keith's guitar and amp for the intro? It's the same sound Keith has on most, if not all of the standart tuning stuff on this record. You can hear that percussive guitar tone on his All Of Your Love solo, for example. Ronnie's tone is way more overdriven on the whole record anyway.

Got a new turntable & receiver for Christmas, along with B&L on vinyl, but needed a pre-amp! It's ordered and due to be in on Wednesday, but I couldn't wait- I picked up the CD today, and it sounds pretty good!

I would consider Keith the Godfather of this album...behind the scenes, giving the orders, directing the plans, and making it happen.

Wishful thinking for the most part. Aural evidence suggests otherwise. Mick shines on this album, which, by the way, has two songs that he did before in "recent" years - Everybody Knows About My Good Thing (with Gary Moore, even released as an official single b-side) and Commit A Crime (with Jeff Beck). Keith is back to his role he played on all the early Stones albums - delivering great guitar parts - and not trying to play the role of the band's second lead singer. Maybe that's one of the reasons why not only diehard Stones fans, but also Joe the average rock music lover buys the album.

maybe a little harsh...but also very true...the Stones are Keith's touch/feel and Jaggers pouting strutting personna...dynamite combo...give the people what they want!!

For what it is worth, on Ride Em On Down the intro is 100% Keith, solo and licks are 100% Ronnie. Not too sure who plays the drums smileys with beer

Just got my copy of B&L for christmas. It's as I expected: a job well done. Nothing less, nothing more. Little Rain is great. The rest is just a blues album well done. At this point in their career, that's the best we can get: good but not great, and a bit pointless given that most of the album has been done already by others at least as well.
For the Stones, doing an album of originals now would very likely be worse, while doing more cover albums would be plain silly. Maybe if they would just mess around, do some sketchy jams, have some fun, nothing polished it might get interesting, but I know that's not going to happen. So I am hoping this it: a decent finale to a band that was once truelly great and was able to say goodbye with a decent blues album.
