If the Byrds were approached he would have wanted to do it....but it's a lousy
concert. Seems a contradiction - unless he was misquoted.

He sounds bitter, contradictory, and out of touch.

"But I think it's a scam because all it is really is a parking lot, an empty field, a few acres off dust. You're standing there for hours and hours"

He could just as easily be describing Woodstock and Altamont - both of which he played at.
A big difference is a majority of Desert Trip is set up for reserved seating, so most people will not be standing for 'hours and hours' unless they choose to.

"You can't tell whose onstage because they're a pinprick".

Has he not heard of state of the art giant screens?

Led Zeppelin Turned Down $14 Million for "Desert Trip" Gigs

"According to The Pulse Of Radio and Showbiz411.com, Zeppelin turned down $14 million for two reunion performances. Jimmy Page said yes and Robert Plant chose to pass. So now you know which member of Zep to blame..."

Damn
That would have been sweet...

who to blame? yeah,Page-if there is one person i respect in the music business it's Robert Plant.bringing out this fake Led Zeppelin to cash in for a night would be a joke.
it's not Led Zeppelin, you're defrauding the public if you do it and there is only one reason-money.
One of his best lines was when asked "why don't you just use Jason Bonham and continue on?' he said"because he's not as good as his dad" it's not Led Zeppelin without Bonzo, plain and simple. It would be as if Page died and you brought in another guitar player with the other three and tried to sell it for a cash grab.
I love Jimmy Page,i've seen him with Zep,the Firm, his solo tour, hell,i own the Death Wish soundtrack but he's got to get past this-it's over.when Bonham died ,Led Zeppelin died, but no matter how many times Robert tries to tell him he can't let it go.
if Jimmy would face reality he could've started a new band and called it the Yardirds and put out some great rock and roll.he could've had his pick of players from the Robinson brothers to who knows who.but damn, trying to bring it back, even auditioning Steven Tyler on vocals, that's fckng embarrassing.

OK so you're right about LZ being over.

But... there was this show a while back... and then a live album and a live video from that show...

So that's a bit curious, Plant saying "because he's not as good as his dad" when clearly he was for that week or so. What a load. Jason was AWESOME. He was so awesome that... they released a live album and video of it.

Jason did say this though, which is probably the truth:

“He told me, ‘It doesn’t matter how great you are on the drums, Jason. I love you to bits, and you play absolutely amazing. But John was the drummer in Led Zeppelin, and John was part of me and Jimmy and John Paul. We shared something very, very special.'”

[somethingelsereviews.com]

There's also the fact that that was a tribute concert for Ahmet Ertegun, which his widow had asked them to perform, so not just a show for the sake of a show. Jason was terrific that night (I was there), but there's a difference between that, and Jason as the fourth member of an ongoing band that continues to create new music, which seems to be the only way Plant would have entertained the idea. The difference, in other words, between Jason re-creating his dad's work, and Jason contributing with the other three to the creation of something new.

Ehhhhh... yeah. It's just that from that album and video it's abundantly clear that they could have. It's as Led Zeppelin as it could possibly be. And had they opted to do new work it would've been awesome because of Jason Bonham making it possible. His drumming was about 98% of a John Bonham cloning. It can not get any better than that.

But whatever. Their legacy is intact and the biggest ever. As it shall remain.

Zeppelin will return for a Tour.

Both Page and Plat wanted to last year but John Paul Jones had a commitment.

They will be back and Jason Bonhom will be the drummer.

TAKE THIS AS A FACT

IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN

I wish I could remember the article or the program where they were talking with

page and plant.

They had agreed to do it but JP Jones had committed to do some type of opera or

something and was to last a year or so once it actually started.

And the attitude was they would tour when he was freed up.

If you have ever read anything that Plant has to say about the topic it would be pretty clear that there will never be another "Zeppelin' concert ever again.

Plant loves to tease about it, but when the chips are down - it ain't happening.

It's easy to take statements the wrong way in print, since, when talking LZ reunion, you can't tell if Plant has a sarcastic tone or smirk on his face.

(I guess some people want to take sarcasm as 'truth')

There's no way John Paul Jones is holding all the cards and preventing a zepp tour. That's like Darryl Jones making the Stones wait a year because he needs some me time.

I assume you're taking the piss, but no, Zeppelin is NOT gonna tour again. Thats not an opinion, thats based on facts and trends over the last 20 years, which I'm not gonna rehash cause I feel like you know them already. Page would do it in a heartbeat, he doesn't do anything else with his time. Jones would also not turn down the money, and Jason would be honored to be involved. Robert Plant is not and will not do a Zeppelin reunion. He did it one very special night for Ahmet Ertegun and it was a fitting end to that band. But it is wholly unnecessary now. That show was nearly a decade ago. They are too old now and its just plain not gonna live up to the hype. Best to go out on a high note and Robert has made it clear he's not that kind of person anymore, which he's right about. He's also right that Jason ain't as good as his dad, which is a fair comment and takes nothing away from the incredible job he did in 07.

It ain't about money cause thats always been there, and it ain't about timing like something like the Guns N Roses reunion was about, which actually needed this amount of time to cool before it happened. Its not happening cause Robert doesn't want to, and I feel many Zeppelin fans have read all the news about that. In fact, I'm sure many are like me that used to disagree and be mad at Robert who now completely agree with him. But enough about Zeppelin. It is not happening and you can take it to the bank. Honestly, its like a Faces reunion with Rod. Its all talk.

Not even the same. An original member who contributed a ton.

When his opera or what ever he committed to already runs its course.

LOLOL! JPJ and the Opera bit was back in 2014. He's currently sitting on his backside doing nothing because nothing is what is on the horizon for Led Zeppelin. It's all in the rear view mirror.

THE MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN WILL RETURN

And the Opera was the reason he did not tour

Page and Plant were ready

IT WILL HAPPEN

Sit back and let it happen.

Ridiculous comparison!

Comparing John Paul Jones to Darryl is like comparing Jimmy Page to Blondie Chaplin.
JPJ was a major contributor to the Zeppelin sound and music, while Darryl is simply an anonymous backup musician.

With that said, I doubt anything JPJ was doing at the time had priority over a Zep reunion. An opera? haha
Furthermore, the chances of any Zep reunion tour are approximately ZERO.

So mock the comparison, but agree with the premise? JPJ has no say so. Plant will not do it so end of story.

I got my Desert Trip weekend two package in the mail today. I never received an email letting me know it was coming or how to track it. I was surprised, pleasantly, to have received it already.

But what is up with that little plastic slide show viewer? I'd rather have had a $1 reduction in the ticket price instead. And the eye pieces of the viewer are so wide apart that I see two separate images. I have to close one eye to see each slide. Hopefully the little booklet that was included in the package will have some useful info. Haven't read it yet, but flipping thru it, I saw that I can swim and shower wearing the wrist band, which is very good news what with the event spanning three days in the desert heat.

I got my weekend two package today, they sent me a tracking number. These packages must have cost a fortune to produce! Is this what they do for the other festvals there, or are we blessed? We are a little concerned about having to put these wristbands on ourselves, also not everyone has a smart phone to activate the bands. I don't, but fortunately my travel friend has one. Argh! The pressure! Well looking forward to the whole experience.

To all going to the Desert Trip...
Have fun,it should be two wonderful weekends.
Having seen the Stones,Neil Young,Bob Dylan and
The Who within the last two years in Germany I just can say all of them did great shows.
Macca and Roger Waters...don't know, not neccessarily my case.

what I don't understand about all this is that there are "passes", "tickets" and "wristbands." What are each of these for and is it necessary to have all three to get into the shows? The Desert Trip site is not clear on this. Sorry for any cross posting but I hope someone can answer my questions.

When you buy a 3-day pass, they send you a 3-day pass wristband. They also sold a limited number of single day passes that have a single day wristband. No tickets. There is a one mile police-check perimeter around the venue and you can't get past that without a valid and activated (online) wristband.

so is the wristband the same as the pass, or it must be, effectively, the pass?

Also, if u buy from Stubhub or eBay or whoever else, will they send u the wristband/pass(which only seems to have been mailed recently)?
