Got my hotel and flights in and out of Havana. Now I just have to pray for a ticket for the show!!!

If anyone else is travelling from Cancun to Havana on the 7:55 am flight on 3/20, contact me by e-mail - sgcub@comcast.net. Maybe we can fly as a group which is technically what we need to be if we live in USA. I could make some IORR laminates - after all we are rock journalists!

I booked a Casa, so a private room in a Cuban home. I was at the 2006 show as well, we came out of the venue and it had snowed as I recall, a bit of an anomaly for Vancouver. I unhid my email address temporarily, take this convo offline?

Yes, it was a big snowstorm that night and very cold. I was staying at the Pan Pacific Hotel and the Stones were all there (except Keith, who flew home right after the show) and they had a big party in the hotel lounge for the crew and entourage since it was the last night of the tour. A few of us ended up getting stranded in Vancouver for several days due to the storm as the airport was closed. Still, it was a very memorable and enjoyable experience.

How did you find the 'casa' where you'll be staying in Havana?

Casa particulares I think, I sent off 2 email's & 1 facebook post on Tuesday and only 1 had a "vacancy"
I checked out the Four Seasons the night before because that is where they used to stay, only found out later they were at the Pan .

There are worse places to get stranded for sure not surprised you had fun considering the company you were keeping!

I will ask my hostess if she knows of any other vacancies, I believe they all have to be government sanctioned to offer accommodation - guessing on my part but ...

Yes.I think it is March 20 but I actually forgot now what they told me. Anyway, the show is ON and an official announcement should be coming soon. So stay tuned.

I am ever hopeful about Cuba but it is getting a bit late to announce? Any more information? I booked a place to stay but reluctant to purchase airline tickets that are not refundable...What do you all think???

Has anyone signed on with Rachel Weingeist??

I emailed her about it and it is some kind of charity benefit package. She didn't disclose pricing, so I am thinking that it is prob expensive.

Major Lazer is playing a free concert in Cuba a couple of weeks before the Stones. Travel packages have been organized by a company called Cuba Educational Travel and Musicabana, which has organized the festival that Major Lazer is playing at is selling the packages. $1500 gets airfare and a concert ticket. $4500-4900 gets air, hotel, meals and concert ticket.

Most educational charter trips appear to charge at least $3000 for air, hotel, food, excursions.

I think we can expect Rachel Weingeist's packages to cost at least, if not more than Major Lazer's.

So if the Stones don't play & all the IORR's should meet somewhere in Havana!

Yes we should!

But they will play - BV has hinted at the show on more than one occasion.

I see the Pope is heading to Cuba. Perhaps he will announce the Stones show in Havana! Actually I am envious of the Pope's itinerary- Cuba,Mexico city...

Note: While I may not be a deeply religious person I am fan of this Pope's message and style.
