I had a feeling "them" was being used in the sense of "he or she",
because Old Soul (no relatiom!) said "the person" could have been watching those two shows.

Ghostly figure = scary = fright
In 1974, the big TV shows on in America on Thursday night were The Waltons and Streets.
"Pricky hair in curls" = laid back clothing
I guess I made it a bit too hard, but given all Olly's Shakespeare references, I thought someone would've picked up on the etymology of Thursday. My bad!

Ghostly figures: spectre, apparition, shadow, phantom...
Clothing. Well, ghosts are famous for wearing sheets, but I can't fit the silk sheet of time in there anywhere, nor the place in between the sheets in Live With Me. Nor the nitty gritty torn shirt in Loving Cup. Oh dear.
