What a bloody waste of time!

Whoa - what do you expect a brain-teaser to be, a solution to your problems?
It's a pastime. If it doesn't amuse you, don't do it. Geesh.

Olly, that last one was mighty elaborate, but a bunch of us are enjoying your puzzles.

Yeah, enjoying the hell out of it!

Seriously, I don't know half the vocabulary that Olly seems to be able to use just for
ordering breakfast, but it's good fun to watch all these clever folks around here working
their brains and share their efforts.

And I did learn a lot about equestrian statues.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

No, would never have got that if I'd been working on it since the Bronze Age. I did consider the tosh/shot business, but couldn't see anything else in that line. I was also thinking about aureate meaning both flowery and golden and trying to persuade myself it was Dandelion, and that the "ours" were the one o'clock etc. (H)ours in the lyric...

Olly, maybe you should give the answer on Day One, and give us a week to work out how you got there!

LoFL!
Except for tosh, I went down all the paths you mentioned there, Green Lady, more than once.
You probably had to step over my crumpled body en route.

Wow, that was a bit more complex than I expected. And you accuse me of overthinking things bloomer?

A bit humorous that the solution was achieved by just using the very first word of the clue and all the other bits didn't really help with the answer.

Nice job marco, Chalk one up for the guys this time.

I do feel a bit disadvantaged being an American with no clue that "tosh" was even a word....not that I would have made the connection anyway. smoking smiley

Ha - and who was accusing me of overthinking back on page 9? :E
It is indeed charming that the first word was the key.

I found the clue ridiculously convoluted and congratulate marcovandereijk on his achievement.

I hope brain-teasers are a solution to your problems as you appear to spend so much time on them.

Never again, my dear. I will be the first to admit it probably wasn't possible in this case but am laughing that the deep thinking didn't do any of us any good.

Complex doesn't begin to do it justice.

Well done to marcovandereijk, that was an excellent effort. I must admit, Istared long and hard at the lyrics to Connection, but if truth be known I was one step below the level I needed to be. The good thing is we now can see how Olly's thought processess worked.

I'm not convinced on the bronze/Iron age/trojan horse connections though!

That was tough.

All right, just for some comic relief I've got one.
Olly said it's okay if I offer it quietly, so I will! :E

7.5

I just discovered a McCartney tune audible in all directions - mixed up. That annoyed me. Obscene navies were summoned.

Ah, you devil.

I think "I only found out yesterday" would fit the first part of your description.
"That really pissed me off" would also fit Thru and Thru.
"Heard it" ...audible
"on the news" North East West South (N.E.W.S), all directions.

But then...

Call out the marines... waiting for a call from you? What is obscene about that?
Or is it that marines should be prepared (like boyscouts) so not waiting, which
would make them obscene?

Ah, now I see, I've got those fcking blues!

I only found out yesterday
I heard it on the news
What I heard really pissed me off
Cause now I got those @#$%& blues

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

Ha, I tried to solve it by heart and forgot to check the lyrics.
There was just this line that was somehow not there in my Random Adjustable Memory.
