No need for concern, latebloomer, preposition is used as a noun.

Yeah, I didn't think so, but thanks for the reassurance, Olly. I love your puzzles, even if I can never figure them out. I don't really have the attention span to keep digging, probably why I was never very good at math. I admire those who are tenacious enough to keep at it. It really has become a team effort here at IORR. Perhaps Green Lady needs to start a lyric puzzle index until we've gone through all the Stones lyrics. That'll keep this board going long past when all of us are gone. smiling smiley

Olly, am I correct that the first two words of the eight-word lyric are comprised of the letters of a one-word preposition - in reverse order?

The first part of the clue, 'A preposition viewed in the mirror' leads to one word, which has the same meaning as the two words in the lyric.

.....

Olly.

Aaaaaagh! It's one of Olly's two stage clues. Something like on = no which means no way or something of the kind?

Just so we have it on this page:

Quote
Olly
A preposition viewed in the mirror; (1 word => 2 words in song)
a homophone of something found on faces; (1 word)
a word that is an example of one who makes decisions; (1 word)
something, the multiple discarded and returned remnants of which remind me of retiring, is subjected to a friend's placed parlance (4 words)

Of course you are absolutely right about the band name but there are sure lots of people who aren't as aware of that, or perhaps as observant and smart as you are with sssoul.

No disrespect intended but perhaps Olly is in that category in this case.

Right, and far be it from me to exclude the band from the cryptic Olly's puzzle -
but still: "the" isn't a homophone of anything I can think of

Well he did spell faces with a lower case f, otherwise as cryptic as this game has been I wouldn't exclude things found on members of the Faces like guitars, basses, jewelrey and the like.

I guessing the homophone has got to be "I" or "knows", something you all figured out right away. Frankly, the game has evolved beyond my skill set but I'm enjoying watching the brains at work here.

Green Lady didn't capitalize the doctor in her great clue, so don't hang too much on that small f

"a word that is an example of one who makes decisions"...

could it refer to the decision - not the decision-maker:

Hiring, Firing, Buying, Selling, Bossing, etc.

Re: 'Which Lyric Am I?'

A preposition viewed in the mirror; a homophone of something found on faces; a word that is an example of one who makes decisions; something, the multiple discarded and returned remnants of which remind me of retiring, is subjected to a friend's placed parlance.

First further clue:

8 words in the lyric; number of words corresponding to each section of the clue (separated by semi-colons):

(1) 2 words
(2) 1 word
(3) 1 word
(4) 4 words

Second further clue:

'...a homophone of something found on clock faces...'

.....

Olly.

things on a clock face - hands, numbers, dial, maybe an individual number, too, free, (h)ate or whatever? Time? Hours? Seconds? (Wouldn't it be fun if it was the parvenu "second-hand" lady in Blinded By Love? But it isn't)

Re: 'Which Lyric Am I?'
Posted by: Straycat13 ()

3rd word could be "won" "to" "too" "for" "ate" "second" "hand"

Re: 'Which Lyric Am I?'

Date: September 27, 2015 11:24

Third further clue:

From a song first released: 1971 - 1978, inclusive.

.....

I need no fussing, I need no nursing.

(I)n need

Numbers = no

Fussing could be making decisions about small details or making others decisions for them.

Nursing - made me think of retirement homes..and the whole phrase is the kind of language we sometimes use when a friend offers help.

.....I'll still keep looking though given my track record eye rolling smiley

There is something weird about that part - why not just say "one who makes decisions"?
Of course it's a word, and of course it's an example and not the only one. So ... [scratching head]
(that is = ie) + (an example = eg) = liege? Hm big help huh.

LCD doesn't have any homophones in Stones songs does it?
Is "a friend's placed parlance" going to turn out to be Cockney rhyming slang for yet another layer of deviousness??
(I need a smiley with little x's for eyes like a conked-out cartoon character)

Well, there's certainly another layer to the final part of the clue...

Consider closely the final three words of the clue.
