A useful lesson for Spain. 5-1 Holland. You're not going to sail through just because you are the reigning world champions...

I promised my son a smartphone and my daughters a tablet each if we would become world champion this morning. Think I'm gonna start to put money aside.

Yeah, from that angle it looks like he stamps on the Dutch defender and dives. The referee doesn't have a 360 degrees vision though...

Now it's time for Australia-Chile in Cuiaba in central Brazil. I wonder if Rockman is aware of this?

Disclaimer: I am not a futbol expert...

Was a foul called on that play? I don't have a problem with the player in white falling (so I wouldn't call it a dive) as, it looks to me like his foot literally landed on the other player's leg and got dragged away from where he thought it would land. If that scenario is in a futbol rulebook somewhere as "a foul", I'd be confused.

We have a term that is used in American Football (or maybe it's just the American media) called incidental contact which I think would apply here.

Glad y'all are anjoying the tournament... I'm having fun following y'all's reactions!

Go WORLD! (I guess technically GO USA as well)

Peace,
Mr DJA

Mr Dja: Yes, a penalty kick was given to Spain. On which they scored 1-0. From the opposite angle it looks like a clear foul, not so much from this angle. In the end Spain lost, 1-5. So the penalty didn't matter in the end.

Great holland! A little bit of freshness after yesterday's scandal . The japanese referee was totally not prepared for a match of
that level. He was already good with neymar with the yellow card ( he deserved the , he wanted to hit) and the penalty was a disaster. Brazil is strong, they can win without any help

Wow! I still can't believe it!
It's the wonder of Orange!
We, my friends, my girlfriend and I, all thought Holland would lose today from Spain with at least 4-1, but "we" won with 1-5!!!

Unbelievable!! Wow!
Robben and Van Persie were super!! What a beautifull goals!!

You can't win with 1-5, GJV!

Re: OT: World Cup 2014

My predictions some days ago were that Spain will be out after the first rounds and I'm still thinking the same.
Spain got the tremendous opportunity to win the world cup four years ago in South Africa following Barça style. Puyol Pique Busquets Xavi Iniesta Fabregas Pedro Villa, more than the 70% of spanish squad was Barça players, was Barça game.
But last year Bayern Munchen destroyed Barça with a 7-O in global in semifinals European Champions League, and today Holland humilliated Spain with 1-5.
The Barça philosophy is not over but some changes need to be done to continue with those succesful years. Spain should re-invent itself or expect to the new Barça.
Apart of all of this remember that football is crazy. Spain also lost the first match in South Africa, 1-0 againt Switzerland, so anything may happen.

Why not?
It was Spain-Holland, not Holland-Spain.

It's a grammatical error to say so. You won with 5-1. Doesn't matter whether you were a visiting team or not.

Congrats to Holland, I'd love to see the Oranje win it.

Still, remember this.

Euro 2008, Netherlands 3 0 Italy, then World Cup Champion. Netherlands needs to remember this because the Hiddink led Russian team somehow managed to knock out Netherlands in the knockout rounds, quarterfinals I believe.

World Cup 2010, not the same lopsided score but Spain, España lost their first game to Switzerland, 1-0. But of course, Spain probably can't come all the way back from a drubbing like that.

Lessons to remember.

I know some Australians are here and practically on all English language forums, the Socceroos gave a very good effort, I was cheering for them. Have a friend from Chile, think they are good people as well.

In America, Ruud Van Nistelrooy is one of the pundits along with Everton Manager Roberto Martinez. Good to hear these guys.
