Hanging Rock may host Rolling Stones

Fairfax

By Josh Fagan
Nov. 22, 2013

THE ROLLING Stones could be preparing to rock at Hanging Rock.

The venue has been touted as a potential host for the Rolling Stones on their Australian tour next March.

Entertainment company Frontier Touring has not released details on their Victorian dates.

But Frontier has booked the Hanging Rock site for an undisclosed concert in March.

Macedon Ranges Shire mayor Roger Jukes said the timing of the booking would fit in with the Rolling Stones’ tour.

“They are the type of artist they would look at having here,” he said.

“The timing adds up.”

Cr Jukes said the concert details remained unconfirmed but he said any potential announcement would be a massive boost for the region.

“If it does come to fruition it’s a fantastic result for the Macedon Ranges.”

The Rolling Stones have confirmed they will play at the Adelaide Oval on March 22.

A Frontier spokeswoman said more dates for the Australian tour would follow soon.

The Hanging Rock venue has previously hosted Bruce Springsteen and Leonard Cohen.

The two Bruce Springsteen shows earlier this year drew sell-out crowds of 18,000 people to the venue.

Cr Jukes said high profile concerts had significant flow-on effects for the local economy.

“The Bruce Springsteen concert was fantastic, it was a huge economic benefit, a huge social event.

“The community are very much in favour of these concerts.”

“I can imagine there wouldn’t be too many places that wouldn’t want the Rolling Stones to perform.”

Macedon Ranges Shire signed a recent deal with Frontier touring to allow up to four concerts a year at Hanging Rock.

The 2014 Rolling Stones tour could be the last time Mick Jagger, 70, Keith Richards, 69, Charlie Watts, 72, and Ronnie Wood, 66, visit Australia.

Any chance of the Stones hanging around for the 2014 Byron Bay Blues feast do we think? For non- Aussies this is downunders version of Glastonbury, well sort of anyway, held over Easter every year. It's become kind of a tradition for acts touring around that time to play there, Dylan for example a couple of years back. I notice that long time stones pal Buddy Guy is announced as playing so you never know. Starts 17 April so it could work

In your opinion, they'll make the same songs of 2013 Tour or it could be some pleasant surprise?!

P.S....I doubt it, because it gaves us to understand that the next gigs will be the continue of the "50...And Counting" Tour...

Would be awesome to see the Stones in Singapore, I'm living here in HCMC which is very close and easy to reach. Didn't think I'd see them around here!

Last time I was in Singapore to see the Stones it was a nightmare with SARS all over. I remember the front page of the newspapers every day - death - closed hospitals - depression - fear ... SARS. I enjoyed the shows but felt the situation wasn't enjoyable. Singapore is a great nice place and I am looking forward to see the Stones there without all the trouble of SARS.
