with that said though, Id still take this album over many other bands.

There are thousands of albums by other artists that are far better.

B&B is an awful album by anyone's standards. even mid-70s stones.

Piss off...black and blue is the only Stones LP with glory and guts
Damn good listen until FTC happens.

They make up for it though...with a ball and chain plus a sawed off shotgun and blown out brains

I still like the crispy fresh sound a lot. As sharp as the cover picture which, I have to admit, you could see the amount of snow so well on smoking smiley
Melody has a swing I really love and adore; you can f & trip so good on it. HOF has a brilliant tempo. MM is a little over the top I think, FTC is totally different but a very nice classic in its own way. Crazy Mama is party, COB funny but below average, HS so and so but you can dance on it, HN is a crazy hot jam but as a song it's stupid because it has no beginning and now end. I liked the album better than IORR and GHS was the last very good one IMHO...

I got hooked on Rolling Stones music and signature guitar sound because of hand of fate....after that, every KR's chord has make me happy

My main gripe with B&B is the repetitiveness. Some of the grooves are cool to begin with, but there's riffs, hooks and melodies enough for like four songs on there. Every song on the album is too long.

Fool To Cry gets a semi-bad rap, but I think Memory Motel is easily one of the worst songs they did pre-Dirty Work. Way too schmaltzy, and when Keith sings "She got a maaaaaahnd of her oooo-ooown and she use it well" I cringe.

i agree black and blue would be great, if some songs were replaced by others, and more were added on.

but they wernt, so judging black and blue on its own merits, its a great sounding album, buts its too short and as such needs most of the songs to be strong, which they are not.

crazy mama
memory motel

are the high points.

hand of fate
fool to cry
hey negrita

are average at best, although sound quality is clearer than previous albums.

melody
hot stuff
cherry o baby

are disappointing.

the albums not really my cup of tea but i can see how others like it.

Hot Stuff is disappointing?!!!!???????

Mostly Keith's singing ... schmaltzy, repetitive, mediocre. I usually love his singing, though, even on his slow songs.

It's a hot-weather album ...PLAY LOUD when the sun is scorching down
Doesn't sounds as good during the winter months...same thing with Burning Spear albums....

funny you quoted "crazy mama"
i always took the line
"you're going to pay high prices for your sacrifices"
as a message from the stones directly to their fans.
and in general "crazy mama" as an expression of the stones' amazement that their fans wanted them to keep going past 30, and the fact that the post-exile product sold at all.

the Hand of Fate riff is a hoot to play , it sounds great!

Then I am guessing you like the riff from "Sad Sad Sad", "I Go Wild", "Must Be Hell", "Highwire" and about a dozen more just as much

Most of these riffs are a bit different, and played by Mick Jagger (except for Must Be Hell) smiling smiley

The thing with simple open G-playing (it doesn't have to be simple, though) has to do with the sound you're making out of it, and how the chords ring. It IS fun to play thumbs up

All the Black And Blue-bashing here just motivated me further to pick the ol' album up again.

It is a classic - lovely album!

It may be short on songs, but the amount of music on it is just as much as other albums.
