I have not posted on here very much but I have been reading a lot of the material available, there are some truly smart people about the Stones on here.

I have read that there is a policeman for this Keith Richards thread, or a guard or something, I assume it's like a moderator? Also, I read that there are problems with people posting too much that they like Keith Richards and his album? Can someone clarify the rules please? How many times is it ok to post that you like this album? I think I posted only twice, can I post again about why I like this album?

Thank you.

RobbedBlind there is no special moderator or policeman or rules about posting about this record as often as you please. Just the usual cardinal rule, Do Not Offend. smoking smiley

Love them both. Is the 'best buy' version available anywhere?

At Best Buy I guess? :E

Keith's rendition absolutely slays me - the guitars are so lovely,
and when he gets to that "I just don't know what to do honeybear",
all I have is his, for good

The original by a mile.

Of course the original. Keith's version is great though.

The original is better - but that doesn't mean I don't love Keith's too. There is room in the world for more than one good version of the same song.

Not even close. Keith's version kills the original.

Bart-Man, you know both of your links lead to Keith's version, right?
Here's Gregory Isaacs's: [www.youtube.com]

As expected Crosseyed Heart is now $6.99 on Amazon, for any late-adapters out there.

Can't top the original, imo. Gregory Isaacs vocals and true reggae groove are great. Keith's version is good...well because it's Keith. I'd bet even he likes the original better. They are different enough though they are almost like separate songs. Still wondering why he dropped the "Is" from the song title? That had to be intentional, but why?

True enough.
Keith's version is stellar though, all the instrumentation, production, etc. ring true to the real reggae vibe.

I'd also say Dennis Brown's cover is better than Keith's.
Bob Marley once said Brown was his favorite singer, and called him 'The Crown Prince of Reggae'.
Worth looking into for those unfamilar with Dennis Brown.> Dennis Brown (1957 – 1999)

Dennis Brown - Love Is Over Due

And her's an extended version by Gregory Isaacs with legendary Jamaican DJ U-Roy (More about U-Roy here.> Ewart Beckford aka U-Roy ).
Gregory Isaacs & U Roy - Love Is Overdue

thumbs up

There was an entire album recorded -Dennis Brown Sings Gregory Isaacs.
And in return Gregory Isaacs recorded Gregory Isaacs Sings Dennis Brown

As the link above states though: "It might not be the place to start with either Isaacs or Brown, but it's a terrific tribute and worth a listen by anyone familiar with these two reggae heavyweights".

Thank you! I appreciate the encouragement from people.

To me, Crosseyed Heart sounds like an album made with heart. I don't hear that very often in songs or albums any more. I hear catchy tunes of course and funky beats, and clever lyrics, but I don't hear heart very often.

I hear songs made with heart when I listen to Crosseyed Heart. I just realized I'm repeating a word in the title. Oops.

I saw the performance by Adele on Saturday Night Live, she is extremely good, an incredible singer. Perhaps the best singer of her generation. But when I listen to the songs on Keith Richard's latest album, I hear an intimacy and closeness that I don't get from such music as Adele's. While her singing is "better" for me Keith's songs come closer to what it means to be a person in this world.

Finally, I know that it is very bad to criticize on this board, but I don't understand people who criticize this album for being too backwards-facing or not "new" enough. It's like people expect Keith Richards to re-invent rock-n-roll or somehow breath new life into it, when nothing new has really happened in rock-n-roll since the late 70s. Is it fair to consider Keith's album a failure, or less than great, because he failed where everyone else has also failed, to make rock-n-roll sound fresh and new again? I don't think so.

When I think of Keith Richards and this album, I imagine a wandering musicians from centuries ago, moving from town to town, sleeping under a different roof each night, offerings his songs up to whoever will listen, the songs are full of wisdom, full of rhythm, full of heart. Thank you Keith, thanks to everyone for listening to what I have to say, I promise I won't post anymore on this topic since it makes people so mad when Keith is praised too much.

Yes nice thoughts on the record RobbedBlind! I agree with you about the heart part and all the rest actually, it's pretty clear Keith's got one and we are lucky he shared it with us, now if we could only get Mick to do the same! lol

That last part was a bit of an inside joke here. You can actually praise Keith as much as you want here. Pretty sure we all love the guy. The stuff you read about people getting angry about it was overblown nonsense. He's a big part of why we are all here to celebrate this band.

RB, I think that is exactly how Keith would like to think of himself as a musician. I haven't listened to the CD for a few weeks now, haven't really listened to much of anything. But, your sweet and heartfelt review has inspired me to pull out CE Heart this morning and for that, I thank you. smiling smiley
