As a guitarist myself, I know for a fact that Mick Taylor as a guitarist is miles ahead of and better than Ronnie. Ronnie's playing is boring double note leads pretty near all the time. He's spent the last 30 years playing mostly uninspired solos with the exception of the reunion shows where he actually seems to be practicing again. Probably because he's sober.
If anyone is complaining about MT, you are too easily amused musically. Mick Taylor is a musician's musician. For those of us who are also musicians, MT is a welcome addition to hear a man who never plays the same way twice. He's a bootlegger's live recording dream come true and that is so much more appealing. Now don't ruin our enjoyment! You have the last 20 years worth of live recordings if you want to see and hear Ronnie. A change was needed.
Let us enjoy this now.
Who is better and worse is not the thing. I don't like MT:s sound, in fact i think he ruins their sound. Stones sound is not about perfect endless solos. And MT is that kind of guitarplayer. No Les Paul standards on stage please.
For the love of God and the love of the Stones........PLEASE..........LET'S STOP THE FREAKIN' BELLYACHING! JEPPE, I HOPE YOU NEVER SEE ANOTHER STONES' SHOW AGAIN IN YOUR LIFETIME.
HOLY FRIGGIN' CRAP........
REHEARSALS, ANYONE??

i would prefer Sweet little Rock n roller. Maybe he could duet with Ronnie, and liza doing a hot, sexy dance.

"Hmm ! Well, not he most inspiring and innovative setlist they could have come up with, in my humble opinion."
paulywaul....I'm with you on that..I'm sad, that after seeing them here every time in the UK since 1973, I'm not going this time round simply because they're just seem to be 'phoning it it' now..

Simple question: Have they already (October 2012 or this month) rehearsed any song from the Bigger Bang album? To be honest I was a bit surprised about not having heard at least one at their 2012 shows...

For me I am waiting to get tickets to see what these shows shape up to be, if its the same thing we got in 2012 set list wise and with Taylor on just Midnight Rambler than I'll pass. But why would they rehearse and mentioned Taylor being more involved and Mick mention ideas for the set list if its going to be the same old greatest hits show..
Just waiting to see if its worth it

So much for wondering if Keith quit smoking

Looking at all the rehearsed material, it's weird for me to realize that the only song worked on so far that I have NOT heard live is Moonlight Mile. So I understand when someone says things appear uninspired. And yet there are people like my brother heading to Chicago who haven't see the Stones in 30 years, or my two friends in Guam timing their Vegas vacation to catch the Stones , who may not even recognize 25% of the songs on these lists ( Oh God please don't let Mick become aware of that.) For those people, out to touch the legend before it passes, these shows will be very exciting. Numerically they will outnumber that handful of us CURMUDGEONS with 30, 40. 50 and counting shows under our belts that are still looking for something we have never heard. WE CANNOT EXPECT , no matter how much we would like, a major tour based on songs that no one has heard. Yes they did it in 78, the world was the different, so was the band, and though we lionize it now, at the time many people savaged them for it.
Maybe the band should continue as long as they can as they are, keeping themselves and countless others happy, while some of us retire from the road.

Thanks to those of you who are standing on the pavement (sidewalk) keeping us up to date.

Sounds like some people did not go to many shows in the "old" days. Fact is The Rolling Stones could do an entire tour with the very same set list. That happened. May be the memory is fading... The Rolling Stones are not known for hanging a lot. Keith likes it safe. Mick likes it safe but do try a few noew ones at times. The fans do expect JJF, BS, GS, SFTD etc. Simple as that. If I get Memory Motel and Lady Jane I would be happy, but I do love the Stones whenever and whatever they play.

It is a constant (and tiresome) claim by the anti-Taylorites that MT is all about "endless guitar solos". With the Rolling Stones - which is the group we are concerned with here - there were hardly ANY long solos by Taylor. Beautiful ones, yes, fluid ones, of course, but not really long ones. His parts had to fit in the song structure of the Rolling Stones as it existed. Are there "endless solos" on Exile? On Sticky? On GHS? On IORR? No! Are there endless solos on the '69, '70, 71, or '72 tours? No! Now, in '73 they did have a couple (YCAGWY), but that's it!
It's Taylor's impact on the overall sound and dynamic of the band that we love from that era, not simply solos.
So...dislike Taylor all you want, call him fat, whatever...but get it through your thick skulls (and thicker ears) that in the context of the Rolling Stones, the preference for Taylor is about taste, choice, musicianship, and band dynamics - not just solos.

I first saw them in 1981 at Dodger Stadium--(the infamous Prince show)
and just 7 times since then.
But I cherish every show I did see
had all their records when I was a young buck.
I love every song and note they play
when I saw them at the Hollywood bowl in 05
they played "as the tears go by" blew my mind
I don't mind if they don't play some of my favorites
I'm just happy to be there!
but I did miss gimme shelter off and on during the bigger bang tour
they are my forever--desert island band----
I will be at Staples Center on may 20th and I am so xcited!!!!!><

Thanks again for the reports, Dan.
Odd that Bernard tweeted about MT as if he were there.

That show was at the Colosseum, not Dodger Stadium.
