If Keith has to do a solo spot then I'd prefer 'YOu Don't have To Mean it' it suits his limited vocals now rather than trying to talk his way through Happy, BTMMR and T&A.

i would prefer Sweet little Rock n roller. Maybe he could duet with Ronnie, and liza doing a hot, sexy dance.

As a guitarist myself, I know for a fact that Mick Taylor as a guitarist is miles ahead of and better than Ronnie. Ronnie's playing is boring double note leads pretty near all the time. He's spent the last 30 years playing mostly uninspired solos with the exception of the reunion shows where he actually seems to be practicing again. Probably because he's sober.

If anyone is complaining about MT, you are too easily amused musically. Mick Taylor is a musician's musician. For those of us who are also musicians, MT is a welcome addition to hear a man who never plays the same way twice. He's a bootlegger's live recording dream come true and that is so much more appealing. Now don't ruin our enjoyment! You have the last 20 years worth of live recordings if you want to see and hear Ronnie. A change was needed.

Let us enjoy this now.

Who is better and worse is not the thing. I don't like MT:s sound, in fact i think he ruins their sound. Stones sound is not about perfect endless solos. And MT is that kind of guitarplayer. No Les Paul standards on stage please.

For the love of God and the love of the Stones........PLEASE..........LET'S STOP THE FREAKIN' BELLYACHING! JEPPE, I HOPE YOU NEVER SEE ANOTHER STONES' SHOW AGAIN IN YOUR LIFETIME.

HOLY FRIGGIN' CRAP........

REHEARSALS, ANYONE??

eye rolling smiley

Actually, i will be seeing at least two shows the coming months. I have the right to my opinion as much as you have here. It´s not a rule here that you have to be a MT fan you know. Hard to understand for you?

paulywaul....I'm with you on that..I'm sad, that after seeing them here every time in the UK since 1973, I'm not going this time round simply because they're just seem to be 'phoning it it' now..

I have seen them in Vegas every time since the mid 90's and many other places. No matter what the set list, I have never seen them "phone it in"so long live rock and roll!

Simple question: Have they already (October 2012 or this month) rehearsed any song from the Bigger Bang album? To be honest I was a bit surprised about not having heard at least one at their 2012 shows...

I would love to hear some songs from the Bigger Bank (woops typo!) Tour

Flip the Switch, and others

I hope the setlists will be a little bit different than the 2012 tour.
And I also hope there will have surprises every shows! At least one.
Around and Around, for example, was a very very good surprise in Newark.

For me I am waiting to get tickets to see what these shows shape up to be, if its the same thing we got in 2012 set list wise and with Taylor on just Midnight Rambler than I'll pass. But why would they rehearse and mentioned Taylor being more involved and Mick mention ideas for the set list if its going to be the same old greatest hits show..

Just waiting to see if its worth it

For $78/piece, I am not going to complain too much, but I agree with you completely. My bet is that they alternate between Rambler and CYHMK. Wish they'd do both and permanently drop Sympathy from the setlist.

They have a massive catalog!! The setlists would indicate they only have singles!

It is a constant (and tiresome) claim by the anti-Taylorites that MT is all about "endless guitar solos". With the Rolling Stones - which is the group we are concerned with here - there were hardly ANY long solos by Taylor. Beautiful ones, yes, fluid ones, of course, but not really long ones. His parts had to fit in the song structure of the Rolling Stones as it existed. Are there "endless solos" on Exile? On Sticky? On GHS? On IORR? No! Are there endless solos on the '69, '70, 71, or '72 tours? No! Now, in '73 they did have a couple (YCAGWY), but that's it!

It's Taylor's impact on the overall sound and dynamic of the band that we love from that era, not simply solos.

So...dislike Taylor all you want, call him fat, whatever...but get it through your thick skulls (and thicker ears) that in the context of the Rolling Stones, the preference for Taylor is about taste, choice, musicianship, and band dynamics - not just solos.

Hate to disappoint you, Keith Richards will never quit smoking. He has quit heroin, he has cut back his boozing, but smoking is more addictive than heroin, legal and inexpensive relatively speaking. He is pushing 70 and seems to have smoked since his teenage years, quitting would probably cause more problems health wise at his age than sticking with it.

I'm guessing that Keith has very regular lung scans to check for signs of anyting nasty appearing, if it did, he would catch it early and have it removed. Lung cancer is often fatal becuase it is not discovered until it is in advanced stages and thereby inoperable and has spread. The every day guy on the street can't afford to have MRI scans every 6 months, Keith can.

Looking at all the rehearsed material, it's weird for me to realize that the only song worked on so far that I have NOT heard live is Moonlight Mile. So I understand when someone says things appear uninspired. And yet there are people like my brother heading to Chicago who haven't see the Stones in 30 years, or my two friends in Guam timing their Vegas vacation to catch the Stones , who may not even recognize 25% of the songs on these lists ( Oh God please don't let Mick become aware of that.) For those people, out to touch the legend before it passes, these shows will be very exciting. Numerically they will outnumber that handful of us CURMUDGEONS with 30, 40. 50 and counting shows under our belts that are still looking for something we have never heard. WE CANNOT EXPECT , no matter how much we would like, a major tour based on songs that no one has heard. Yes they did it in 78, the world was the different, so was the band, and though we lionize it now, at the time many people savaged them for it.

Maybe the band should continue as long as they can as they are, keeping themselves and countless others happy, while some of us retire from the road.

someone, munichhilton or rockman i think, said it best - this tour is not for the hard core long time fans, it's for people who have never seen the stones before and want to see them while they still can. that is the best explanation for the ticket prices, the set list, etc.

what i appreciate most as a hard care fan is all the releases over the past couple of years - some girls tracks, exile tracks, brussels affair, etc. that's the stones taking care of their fans IMO.

mistaking this tour as something they are doing for fans like us seems like a path to disillusionment. i prefer to thank them for releasing the unreleased tracks and ignore the tour.

Sounds like some people did not go to many shows in the "old" days. Fact is The Rolling Stones could do an entire tour with the very same set list. That happened. May be the memory is fading... The Rolling Stones are not known for hanging a lot. Keith likes it safe. Mick likes it safe but do try a few noew ones at times. The fans do expect JJF, BS, GS, SFTD etc. Simple as that. If I get Memory Motel and Lady Jane I would be happy, but I do love the Stones whenever and whatever they play.

I agree with you that most of the "fans" that will attend will come for the big hits........but on the other hand, they can show what they are capable of and play a song that is not well known and will sound great live "Down In The Hole" as a sample

I don't mind if they don't play some of my favorites

I will be at Staples Center on may 20th and I am so xcited!!!!!>grinning smiley<smiling bouncing smileycool smileygrinning smiley

Remember those days well... the difference was they were usually supporting a new album and playing 3-4 songs off of it that we had never heard live before. It is cool that they are leaking the songs that they are practicing, so that everyone knows what to expect. I don't have a quarrel with them really, I love the Stones. I've just figured out that this tour is not for me. I'm too spoiled by the pre-Vegas era, and I prefer digging through their recent archive releases and finding new material to appreciate.

I agree with that. My experience is if it's a very good night because the band kicks ass big time, any song will be amazing. If they try a song and the band isn't feeling it ,musically it won't be great although the surprise may partly compensate for the lack of musical efficiency.
Rock and roll,
