Report (from RocksOff):

It was another cool rehearsal. I got there first and managed to get a wave from Keith as he came in. Eventually the band followed about an hour later. Mick gave us a wave as he passed us in the driveway and then as he left his car and headed inside the rehearsal room.

The first half was pretty standard stuff but they really opened it up after the warhorses with some special songs like "Moonlight Mile" and "Waiting on A Friend." Yesterday was more of an odds-n-ends kind of day, looking for a song that would fit in that "obscure" slot in the show. Today, they simulated a full show and then went looking for more obscurer songs before breaking for the day. They really have a very specific method going about this.

In the middle of rehearsals, Charlie stepped into the office building that was closest to us. We politely waved and called to him and he kindly smiled and waved to us. After a few minutes, he left the office and before walking back to the rehearsal room he walked over to us, greeted us and was available to sign some autographs and pose for pictures with everyone. There were only about 6 or 7 of us But that was a very kind gesture and we also have to thank their security guard for looking out for us. Charlie was very nice and we were all elated.

The rest of the day flew by. They zipped out after a more than 4 hour rehearsal. Unfortunately, this will be my last rehearsal to report. I would honestly go back every day if I could. Hope others can make it and enjoy the tunes. There were 3 or 4 new faces there today than yesterday will probably be more next week...who knows. But anyway...it really was a great experience.

Thanks for the videos, pix, report!
Much appreciated!

Rehearsal videos sound GREAT. I only wish we could hear Keith this clearly on things like JJFlash... Unfortunately the sound mix is dominated by Bernard and Lisa on the chorus. Keith really sounds great..

Yeah, the videos are good, but they would be much better if the camera person just went inside, and pointed the camera at the guys as they played. Would they please do that starting Monday?

So how do they rehearse?
In some reports I read that they start over a song or play it twice which made me think. Do they all play these songs once from start to finish or can you hear them work on them and do multiple takes of the songs?

Cheers,
Wuudy

I am hoping for Beast of Burden - one of their finest songs. Cannot understand why the placement of this classic in the set list is so sporadic.

I know, Tele. But they said they liked the era the most, not Taylor smiling smiley

JJF on L&G is one long guitar solo by Taylor, over-shadowing both the main guitar as well as the vocals, so there are nuances here.

However, it WILL be awesome to have Taylor back for this tour.

They have done the same long vamp on JJF for years, with Wood playing over it. So again, it is not a matter of long solos with Taylor as opposed to short solos without, it's a matter who is more effective given the same amount of real estate.

I still contend that the Taylor-haters have to contend with opposing views which are way more important than mine - those of the Rolling Stones themselves. If they didn't feel this way they wouldn't be bringing him back on tour.

Come on, Tele! You can hear the difference. It's no criticism, just a clarification of what some posters may not find as good. It's not the business in itself that may be the problem, it's how it impacts the song

And that JJF is the extreme case of what I'm talking about. The riff is not recognisable, because of counter-riffs in a different rhythm + an on-going lead guitar all the way through. Ronnie would never have the imagination, nor the patience to do that smiling smiley

The Daily Mail has it wrong: Keith and Ronnie went last Saturday to Spago (Wolfgang Puck's legendary Beverly Hills flagship) and not Spargo!
Spago had in the last Los Angeles Michelin guide that was edited back in 2009 Two Michelin stars. The Executive Chef is Lee Hefter and the Chef De Cuisine is Tetsu Yahagi.

Wonder what they had?

I would order:

Cocktail: ADIOS NONINO (Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Luxardo Amaretto, Aperol, Nonino Amaro)
1: Mushroom Soup, Emmental Cheese Soufflé, Black Truffle Coulis
2: Celery Root Agnolotti, Parmigiano Reggiano
3: Black Bass, Crispy Scale, Littleneck Clams, Herb Coulis, Garlic Purée and with that From the garden: Stir Fired Eggplant, Thai Garlic Sauce, Green Curry Aïoli
Dessert: Black Bowl (Chocolate Crumble Parfait, Cardamom Glace, Espresso Air, Chocolate Brulee Cookie)
Wine out of the 137 pages winelist: Louis Carillon, 1er Cru Les Combettes, Puligny-Montrachet, France 200? (175 dollar but what year is it? Not 2003 I hope, make it a 2009 please)

Here's the menu, what would you order?

I can still hear the riff. Taylors versions are the ones that provide the most payoff for a repeated listening experience. The perfect way to remedy this is to pan each guitar to the left or right side as was done so effectively on Get Yer Ya Yas out. The mix of one guitar in the left speaker and one on the right allows you to listen to whomever you want.

The Stones have always been one of the most inspiring bands for guitarists. I am sure they are responcible for thousands upon thousands of sales in guitars through the years. With Mick Taylor, he's going to inspire new audiences to see that the Stones are still musically capable of blowing people's minds. It's also the respectability factor for the vast numbers of young musicians who have never heard the genius of Mick Taylor. He helps. I am excited to hear what they are going to cook up now!

I hope they go back into the studio with Taylor and change their sound. They have nothing to lose! He might just inspire them to come up with some cool new creative sounds. Trust me, if they do its going to be fantastic.
