No, he asked that all complaints, about ticket prices or anything else, be in this thread.
Correct. If there is a thread aboiut a subject then please use that thread. In this case it is quite clear. Some people want to complain about ticket prices. fair enough. This is the thread.
If you are invited to a wedding, and spend most of the edding day talking to everyone how expensivewedding presents are, gthe you are messing up the wedding day, not only for the two who are wedding, but also for other guests. It is a bout manners. Some people simply d not have manners. They have to complain about how miserable life is upon them, in all places. In bars, at concerts, in the IORR forum threads, to thei friends, brothers, sisters, everywhere. I think that is v ery selfish and introverted. I have many friends in Africa. They spend their day finding ater and food. There are 60% unemployment rate. But they do not have PCs and they do not complain about how bad life is. They thank God for their family and all the happiness they have got in life, regardless of material values that have been brought to them.
I will keep saying this as long as I live. Life is unfair. But it will be even more unfair if you do not look at it from the bright side. If you are broke, I mean real real broke, then find a sponsor, find a friend, or climb a fence. I went to my first Stones show in 1973. I was totally broke, but I managed to get two tickets and a bus ride from Oslo to Gothenburg for both me and my girl fiend (still my wife these days). It is all about priority. Like it or not. For me the Stones come before family, work, weddings, everything else in life. My family do know it. I cancelled all other plans last year when they did the shows then. I disappeared from work and family life. It is possibe but please do not blame your own frustrations and priority on everyone else in new threads...
Feel free to discuss tcket prices here...
In all honesty you are way off on your 'wedding' analogy.

Now the prices at least for US have been lowered by about 20% and it is still to high? Those prices are actually similiar to 2005/06.

Hello,
You're right, BV, off course. But the Stones are in the process of steadily losing the huge stock of goodwill they have built up amongst their fans. It is of course unrealistic to expect them to put on free shows, but for people of their wealth to charge the prices they do is, in my opinion, immoral, when there is no justifiable need for them to do so.
Of course we don't have to go to the shows if we think the prices are too high. It's just that some of us would really love to and now can't as the cost is too much. And it is a shame that the power to alter that is in the hands of The Stones and they have no desire to do anything about it.

AndrewT: I hear you on this point:
There is no way anyone can say with a straight face that the atmosphere in the crowd at these shows will be even close to what it could be if the people that really love the music filled the crowd.
The atmosphere during the second show at the Beacon was great, with really dedicated fans filling the place for the price of 35.00 a seat. Most of us were up in the balconies, the un-hired bodies. I don't think this necessarily comes through much in Scorsese's film, the feel of the whole crowd.

True Story: 2003: The Stones are playing in Montreal about six months or so after the Toronto date. Well there's a crew going including some of those dreaded "insiders" (not the ones from here) and they say I should come along, it will be great, we'll hook you up.
Well at this point I am dead broke, like deciding between lunch or cigarettes broke, but I can get a ride so, what the hell, off I go.
One of the crew will let me crash on the floor of his hotel room. Cool. Others are nice enough to lend me a few bucks for food/drinks.
Well now it is show day and I've got a shiny Shebeen pass in my hand!
Great. Now I don't have to worry about dinner.
Only problem is...the Stones don't give free tickets away to ANYBODY!!!
Sure I can get prime seats but they are 300 something dollars.
No dice. Can't do it. Won't do it. Ain't borrowing that much. No way.
So here I am stuck in -40 degrees Montreal in January with backstage pass but I can't get into the venue!!!!! For that the pass is useless, you need a ticket.
Everyone goes in and I'm facing standing on the corner for three hours while evryone else is in the show.
I'm now completely on my own. No phone. No money. No ticket. With a backstage pass doing nothing.
I end up lurking around the loading docks (across the street, there were lots of security) and I start timing the garage doors as trucks come and go.
After about twenty minutes of this i make my move.
Truck comes out, garage door starts going down...as it gets real low the guards walk back in. I BOLT from across the street and do a roll under the doors right before they crush me- Indiana Jones style. For real.
I get up trying to act natural and when security comes up to me I make like I left the lounge looking for the bathroom and got lost.
I show them the pass.
I get escorted to the Shebeen just in time for it to close down as they tell everyone to take their seats.
All this could be for nothing.
I see some of the folks I know and tell them my predicament and ask them if they can get a word to Keith, anybody, and find me a place to the see show.
There are a few excruciating minutes where I'm expecting to get 86'd.
Security comes up and I'm ready to accept my fate.
Instead they escort me to the mixing board where Keith's "blind angel" and her family have a place set up. There's a chair with all their winter jackets on it and the security says "if they don't mind you sitting on their jackets you can sit there".
I ask Keith's Blind Angel and she says yes and I promise I won't scuff the coats no matter what.
So I saw the show there for free thanks to one angel and another one i'll never know the name of.
Anyways, I figure the statute of limitations is over on this and there's no way that lightning bolt will strike again so F**k it, there you have it.

I am really having a hard time believing these prices. $600 for 80% of the arena....
Hmmm, that conjurs up a rather interesting mental image....Quote

Six months ago I paid $15.00 to stand four feet from Bobby Keys as he blew CYHMK right into my face. I'm quite content to let that remain my final experience of live Rolling Stones music.

ok,where to start.....i always go see the band no matter how ridiculous the prices are because i've been lucky enough in life where it doesnt matter to me, outside of of my wife looking at me a little strange when the bill comes.
i know more than a little about finance and the big problem with the stones is that their business model sucks.
now, you're asking-"lemmy how can you, a fan on the internet question these big bad rockstars and their people who have made billions"?
well,i'll give you the short answer-the U2 360 tour.while the stones were putting up tarps in the upper decks to cover the empty seats U2 were putting fans there.selling the tickets to people who maybe couldnt afford to sit in the front but they still saw the band, had a great night out and hey, they were in the back but the big stage looked great and the band sounded good.
and the U2 tickets were expensive, they just didnt lose their minds in some weird diva-like attempt at having the highest prices.
and it was obvious that the stones wanted that box office record so bad.even keith ,when asked said"yeah but did they play to a million people like we did in rio" no, but if they were their they wouldve keithy boy.
if they were my clients i would treat them like a fighter who just lost a fight-"heres how you got your ass kicked" and the funny part of it is the rolling stones are a better live band than U2 and they made 730 million and walked away looking like a band of the people with the critics and fans fawning all over them.
meanwhile the stones made less money and look like a cynical greedy bunch of old men who hate each other and have pissed off and alienated their fanbase.
and you know what, they still couldve saved it-do some huge shows with cheap tickets as a "thank you to the fans" you have a big summer party everyone has fun and walks away talking about the great rolling stones.[100.000 reasonable tickets brings more revenue than 20,000 stupid priced tickets, its basic economics-this is why wal-mart makes more money than cartier]
good job guys, enjoy the money that you'll never live long enough to spend.

Earl's Court 1976 = £4
Knebworth 1976 = £4
O2 2012 =
Hyde Park 2013 = £400....so I've read.....
With inflation according to the Bank of England, £4 worth of goods and services from 1976 should now cost less than £25...........
With the Stones they don't....... Have the bands costs really been increased 16 fold to get from an adjusted 1976/2012 price of £25 to £400? ...hmmm flashy screen, better PA but still......???
So, the only other driver of these increases can only realistically be greed.......just mo of course.

Hey, you think the most important Stone - Chuck Leavell - comes cheap?
Great post 71Tele i agree with it. What happened to those days where you got a ticket master wrist band at the ticket master and waited in line the earlier you got there the better the chance at a good seat and the fee was only 15 bucks, Now were paying there tax's for a teir one seat your paying 94 dollars and change for the ticket unreal man! Promoter sell huge blocks to the scalpers because they got the cash up front then the promoter is safe not to lose any money i'm sure there is a certain quota they have to make so they work with the agencies and release the tickets to them before it goes to the public in the states anyway's. That why i like to go to Europe and buy tickets to 15 show's in a row because the tickets are so much cheaper in reality on a bigger bang i could only see maybe 3 shows for the price and travel for 15 gigs in europe big big difference. As who said there were tickets on a bigger bang for 550 your wrong 450 was max the stadium shows were 99 dollars first 10 rows tthe arens were like 350 max that was Fresno boise etc. Anyway i'm just going to pick and choose my show's maybe LA will work with the short notice!Quote

Let's face it, if the prices were lower the secondary market would gobble up even more. The fact is, there is a limited supply of something that enough people (even if not the majority) are willing to pay a high price for, so eventually the market will find a way to value the tickets at the price the market will bear. The only way around it is to do what Tom Waits and others have done - make the original buyer of the ticket get a wristband which only allows that person in (with ID). This is difficult on an arena scale, but doable. One unfortunate side effect is that a lot of loyal fans are priced out. Another is that you end up with hedge fund types in the best seats who really don't give a crap about the band, they are just there because it's the thing to do and they can afford it. The whole thing disgusts me, but I am not sure there's a solution.

$600 a ticket????????? I will always love their music, but I do not worship these guys. I still love them, but probably in a Mick/Keith bitter-sweet way, at this point.
This is one time that I strongly disagree with BV. I do NOT put the Stones above my family. Never will. My wife and daughter are tops, and I serve God not the Stones. So paying $1200 for 'good' seats is just INSANITY to me.
I am honestly shocked that this entire forum isn't LIVID. If Drudge/NPR/CNN/anything really pushed this story of greed, the Stones might actually react.
Oh and I think the irony in this, is that as a free-market capitalist, libertarian and conservative, I am simply upset at their greed. There is NOTHING illegal about anything they are doing, just immoral... Doom & Gloom preaches about 'worried bout the poor put your feet up on the couch and lock up on the door' or whatever... So he's going to preach anti-1%, while pricing the concert FOR the 1%.
There's only one group who's going to 'Get What They Need', and its the Stones and their money. Has nothing to do with us middle-class working types. We'll be in the upper deck where the line array is not pointing, so the sound will be crap.
