Just because Bonham banged the drums louder than Watts doesn't mean he was one bit better than him.

I don't think it's wise to make a thread like this ? vs ?.........just ask your opinion about a band, I do understand the intention of the poster but you never can explain your friend who's better........it's just a matter of taste.
For me the Zep is just a great band although I don't own one LP of them, I only bought "Immigrant Song" as a single............
According Wiki they only had 4 top40 hits out here ...although I think "Stairway To Heaven" was also a big hit
1969"Good Times Bad Times" b/w
1969"Whole Lotta Love" b/w led Zeppelin II
1970"Immigrant Song" b/w
1971"Black Dog" b/w
Around this time '69-'73 I was completely obsessed by the Stones........so no room for any other band...except for Fleewood Mac...or from '73 and on Bowie and Roxy Music

Is this the Led Zeppelin motto? I swear I haven't met one LZ fan who didn't mention this within the first minute of any debate related to the band.

i prefer the stones to zeppelin, but it is hard if not impossible (or useless) to compare them
probly easier to compare to zeppelin to cream, for examaple, anyway
but the greater or greatest rock and roll band? how do you judge that?
it boils down to personal opinion

its true. anything that charted after the 3rd or 4th album was due to airplay. the band had already stopped the label from releasing singles.

>Not even debateable to me.

Teens also walk around with their pants down below their rearends. Are they really a good barometer for what is good?

Not at all. BUt they are the future.
And hey, we were all there at one time (unless the unlikely event of a pre-teen posting here).

Zep and Stones represent 2/3 of my all-time favourite bands. The debate does evoke a lot of different thoughts...
Who is more about rock and roll - Stones
Who was more about intensity - Zeppelin
Which groups forays into different kinds of experimentation sounds more sincere - Zeppelin
Which group has a more engaging frontman - Stones
Which group has more of a 'cool factor' with teens/20-somthings - Zeppelin
Zeppelin broke up in 1980 after an irreplaceable member of their band died.
The Stones have been a broken unit since 1981 and haven't made a record worthy of rock recognition since (although they've tried, tainting their legacy with every failed attempt)
Which band is more about fun, not taking themselves too seriously - Stones
What I don't like about the Stones - they've become the McD's of rock.
What I don't like about Zeppelin - 20-plus minute versions of Dazed and Confused and/or Moby Dick (leave long jams for The Allmans and The Dead)
Stones' big 4 (Beggars, Bleed, Sticky, Exlie) vs Zeppelin's first 4 - Stones
Who will be forgotten first? - probably neither
Which one of them is the most influential band in music history - definitely neither

It is not true, a complete myth. Singles released after the fourth album include:
"Over The Hills And Far Away"
"D'yer Maker"
"The Ocean" (Germany only, where it went to #8)
"Trampled Underfoot"
"Candy Store Rock'
"Fool In The Rain"
Chart placements, etc.:

yes they had charted songs after that but weren't the singles only sent to radio? back then i thought sales and radio play determined chart position?
