OT - Rock Music is DONE! - a message from Coldplay's Chris Martin

I started liking him after he dumped Gwyneth Paltrow...now, not so much.

Is Rock Done?

Chris Martin thinks rock music is ''done'' and doesn't think his band Coldplay will ever fit comfortably into the genre.Chris Martin thinks rock music has run its course.

The Coldplay frontman doesn't feel his band's seventh studio LP 'A Head Full of Dreams' fits the rock genre very easily as there are much more layers to the pop record and he doesn't think hardcore rock fans will ever be crazy about his music.

He explained: ''We felt like rock music has been done. The future of music is in new sounds and new ways of treating vocals. We wanted to add these colours to our palette.

''No one would ever put us in a list of top 10 rock bands. We've maybe rocked out once, for 10 minutes.

''I don't think anyone would throw up the devil horns to any of our major works.''

And his bandmate and bass player Guy Berryman agrees with Chris and feels like there is no future for the genre because it's all been done before.

Guy, 37, added: ''There's an awful lot of rock music already out there. I'm not sure there is anything left to add.''

Elsewhere, the 'Yellow' hitmaker, 38, admitted he still gets struck by stage fright.

He told The Daily Telegraph newspaper: ''There is definitely a suspension of normality.

''The part of your personality you access to do a big concert is not the same part that's just walking down the street every day.

''You have to believe, 'This is my job, we are awesome.' And a couple of things can go wrong and freak you out, then you suddenly think, 'Oh s**t, I'm just a boy from Devon, who the hell do I think I am?''

according to some dude in the 1880,s there was nothing much to add.

this dude predicted that by 1895 the patents office would have to close because there will be nothing left to invent, everything that would ever be invented would already be here by then.

how wrong can one be.

if people go around thinking everything that can be recorded has already been recorded and theres nothing new to add, then were all doomed musically.

theres plenty more rock music, to go yet.

I hope Jagger doesn't read this interview or we're surely doomed.

He's right of course. Time moves on. Of course rock music won't die out but it will never be as big again. I guess it will join jazz and blues and become a smaller venue for connoissuers.

Coldplay is done.

That's a fair statement from my perspective since they never really started for me but their record sales seem to indicate otherwise....at least per this article.

What does 'rock music' mean, anyway? It's such a vague term.

Rock Music is DONE! -

That's a petty sad statement. Rock music is a combination of Musical styles through out the years that really represent life. Take a moment and reflect on this notion. You can be a classical, Jazz , folk and Country, Blues, Rock n roll, Pop, Punk, New Wave ,Grunge fan and So on and So on Scooby Dooby Doo ... All music is connected and that is a good thing. There was a Bruce Springsteen special on last night on PBS. There were many different artist performing to pay tribute to Bruce. Alabama Shakes, Tom Morello, Jackson Browne, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, John Legend, Patti Smith, Emmylou Harris and so on.(I think this is a 2013 dvd release...but I was watching it on PBS last night) I guess my point is that Rock and Roll is never dead AND all music connects because it connects us all...from a Rolling Stones fan...

Peace and Love, Peace and Love

Classic or Mainstream Rock is done, it's an indie genre, the new rock bands are alternatives but with very limited audience.

Billboard will stop to publish the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart this month, only 2 rock charts left are the Modern Rock Tracks and Adult Alternative (AAA).
Start Me Up spent 13 weeks at #1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Chart on 1981, sadly this chart will be gone in 2 weeks.

Basically what you are pointing out has to do with making money. Rock Music is way more than that...any support here?!

My point is: rock music was a mainstream genre for about 40 years or so, the mainstream radio played rock music, the rock albums were big sellers, all that is gone, all that left are 30-40+ years old bands as the Stones, AC/DC, U2 or Macca playing hits from 30+ years ago.

Coldplay seems more of a progressive rock group. I happen to like them. Very relaxing and laid back music. Their sound has a religious feel to it.

What about all the crap music they play on radio stations these days? I can't understand how anyone can like this commercial elevator music.
Sounds like computerized boy band muzak. Is this the future of rock and roll?
