I seem to remember at the concert for New York in 2001, Mick was supposed to play with some sort of supergroup featuring Townshend etc.but he called Keith last minute when it appeared not to be working ?

Are the Stones really been lined up as a back up plan ? really ?

Now the cats out of the bag, Foo Fighters is exactly who Mick reached out to. There are some important issues with the festival, as their co-headliner Blink may be forced to cancel for health reasons. I guess we'll see what happens soon.

wow. foo fighters. grunge. grunge stones songs. ok. but why? aren't stones live
versions grungy enough? is that the point? that stones 2013 are gonna be pretty
grungey, so get used to it?

i remember being surprised when mick talked up the foo fighters on the grammies,
after the foo fighters trashed, just like most y'all do, virtually all current music.
way more shocked now.

so either 1) mick's "reach-out", though real, was always insincere, with the
pre-knowledge that it would fail logistically, or 2) mick is suddenly going in a WAY
different direction than i've been thinking. Dumbing down and retro-ing his
musical personna, which might still be good for the Stones, but which is very sad for me.

Foo Fighters is not grunge.

I bet Mick didn't see the Lemmy-documentary, where Dave Grohl is saying some bad things about Keith (or he might have seen it winking smiley ).

Foo Fighters is not grunge.

Wikipedia labels Nirvana grunge and the Foos post-grunge. The latter is
supposed to be a little bit more commercial. But I've been watching some live Foos.
Grunge. Probably their studio work is more "post" but I haven't listened to
much of it yet. And probably won't.

Anyway, the point is, if Mick's sincere about this (which we have no grounds
to judge yet), then fcuk me. I'll still like the new worldbeat music most of all,
but I'll no longer have any grounds to write about it on IORR.

Perhaps the Foo Fighters were contacted by Mick to be an opening act for the Stones on an upcoming tour and the details and idea got a little turned around into the Fighters are backing Mick on SNL?

Then again perhaps they were called to light a fire under Keith's ass. If Keith can openly admit that the Dec. jam was meant as a magnet for Mick to show up with the prescence of Wyman then maybe the threat to use the Foo Fighters was enough to see if Keith was up to the gig.

Then again this is all one big smoke screen.

Bernard has a show reportedly in NYC on the 18th. Even if Bernard has a show on the 19th in NYC the SNL broadcast is so late and the first musical number comes just before midnight that he could still get to 30 Rock and backup the Stones.

All is still possible.

Pete Townshend was going to play with Mick at The Concert for New York. The back-up band was always Paul Shaffer's band. When Keith contacted Mick that he was willing to join him, Pete bowed out. No super group and no thought that it wouldn't work out, just Pete being a gentleman when Keith turned up.

Revvy, be reasonable. If Mick plays SNL with Foo Fighters and you bail on us, who will keep us in line when SuperHeavy reunites later this year? Without you as Ringleader, we will bitch and moan about what an unappealing culture clash SuperHeavy is and then Mick won't work with the Stones next year just as you've told us many times over the last few months. Don't you see you've made yourself indispensable to the band's very future and this board's future happiness? Can't you just pretend Foo Fighters is nearly as talented as Rhianna, Damian Marley, and Joss Stone just for our sake? Is it really too much to ask for your fellow IORRians?

There is a band with a new LP coming out May 22 that is truly way more exciting than what's going on with the Stones.

What is all the talk about? A lot of nothing. Maybe next year.

So exciting I have to ask you what band? No disrespect, sir.

The Cult.

Keep in mind it's not a dis on the Stones, it's a comment on how... so much wonder can become so involved without...anything tangible! Theories and opinions and expectations are formed, mutated, blurred with so little it gets to be a bit much. With so much at fingertips media wise it's amazing how little actual information there is on what they Stones may be doing and what Jagger may be doing with SNL with the fingertip media. It's almost like back in the old days when people found out because it was...something.

Oh yeah.

Official!

No joke, Hansie. Y'see, for me, absolute heaven was/would be to have Jagger as
both part of clearly the greatest old school act The Stones and potentially
the greatest new school act SuperHeavy. BLISS! But SuperHeavy's first album,
as flawed as it was, opened up a whole new world of music to me, and I've
become predominantly new school now. If Mick decides to re-cast himself, for
whatever reason (probably to help the Stones), as totally old school, that's
of course fine, that's of course his business, but it kind of cuts me out of the
picture. Understand that I am in no way questioning Mick's judgement (he is
way way way smarter than me), I'm just saying it would represent a rare parting
of the ways between me and Mick over the last 50 years. It would be sad, but
what must be must be. And by "parting of the ways", I only mean that my personal
focus will turn elsewhere. I'm still gonna be a Stones fan, but I have many many
interests, and Mick will not quite hold so much power over me. Which, who
knows, might even be a good thing for both of us.

I think it only fair that you let Mick decide whether losing you would be a good thing for him. It may be a healthy step for you, but it could prove devastating for Mick. This isn't just about you, Revvy. The impact could very well be tremendous.

and to just put an even finer edge on it:

if mick decides to become 100% a classic rocker now, and gives up his
attempts to participate in the new music, i have very little to offer here,
i have very little purpose. but i still won't be disappearing, i'll still
no doubt occasionally be defending the vegas era and "let's work" etc,
but i will not be raining on anyone's classic rock parade with my hyping

As long as we are fantasizing about what might happen on SNL, let us not rule out the possibility of the Stones pulling off a major publicity stunt, to announce a world tour, the biggest ever, the BIG 50. I can see the camera filming the Stones traveling down the street on a flat bed truck playing a couple of songs, then entering the building for another couple of songs, then fireworks, and an announcement by Jagger and the Stones of the tour.

Sure, it was done before, but SNL was not involved either.

Something along these lines would be great, probably the largest televised tour announcement ever....would that be correct?

The only issue is that they've seem to have stated no tour until 2013, so a tour announcement this early seems highly unlikely, unless that was a red herring, and we are in fact getting Berlin Sep 1 and maybe an Olympics spot.

I doubt it though.

Don't be foolish. Your antics have become a longstanding tradition from your days of plotting Darryl's lead vocal spotlight to your Jar-Jar Binks routines to your current multiple SuperHeavy incarnations. Your disruptive presence is sometimes all I look forward to when I visit here. There are days I'm convinced you are also Watchman and his/her latest incarnations as well. Once you were truly Legion, you can't ever disappear. You can only give yourself a slightly different incarnation and return to fulfill your calling. It is what you do. Like the Stones, you would miss the limelight too much to stay away forever.

Ann Marie Calhoun might be the, er, Foo angle...

2008

At the 50th Grammy Awards on February 10, 2008, Mrs. Calhoun was the winner of the "My Grammy Moment" contest and played live with the Foo Fighters during the broadcast.

2011

Ann Marie played with the rock supergroup SuperHeavy with Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart, Joss Stone, AR Rahman, and Damian Marley on their debut studio album.

(i ain't sayin i'm just sayin...)

1) I never had a Daryl vocal fantasy, Charlie singing one line in one song, yes
2) Jah Jah, yes, Jar Jar, no. Jar Jar Binks has been generally condemned as a
racist anti-Rasta character, and you should be ashamed of yourself for
constantly referencing him.
3) I've never had more than one identity at a time, and its always been clear
who I am, unlike the disgusting deceptions practiced by others (in my opinion)
4) these attempts to tar me with Watchman and JackFlash68 identities are pure
harrassment (in my opinion)
5) get this straight: i ain't going nowhere, unless you or some of your allies
get me banned like you have before, on trumped up charges (in my opinion).
all i'm doing is withdrawing my visible support of new-school music, if and
when it becomes clear that mick has done the same. since that's a large part
of what i write about, it follows quite naturally that my presence will diminish.
6) but in case you're right, that i miss the (very dim) limelight here, i have
established myself firmly on a rihanna forum. the people arent as smart or
knowledgable there, but they're nicer. they're no schoolboys or girls, but they
know what they like.

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

I think the Stones will play Street Fighting Man on SNL.

It's almost summer and what's a poor boy to do except to sing in a rock n roll band.
