Jagger did not confirm as host until last week. They have been discussing it for about a month.

Which coincidence or not would place it around the time Ronnie leaked the news of the recording session for this month and then was reprimanded for it.

Perhaps the recording/jam session in NYC was video taped by SNL to be shown during the broadcast? Not everything SNL does is live. Perhaps they filmed a comedic music video or something for a digital short by Andy Samberg?

I'm not offering disinformation and what I posted about Mick reaching out to a band (which was not the Black Keys, who would be frankly a better idea) did not come from the Stones. I don't know what will happen but I'm not expecting them to perform as the musical guests. That doesn't mean I expect them in any guise, but that would seem more plausible. I'd expect a Lorne fest.

I assume you are right. I have learned not to expect much when it comes to Stones live performances these days. Black Keys would've been awesome, by the way. Dan Auerbach would be a good producer for them, judging from the successful Dr. John album he did.

i think its 50/50 whether the stones play.it would most likely come down to how it sounded if they got together and jammed.if the band all of the sudden started clicking they might just do it,if it didnt sound right they'll just scrap it.

cant get away with another 78 in this day and age, they would be crucified.

one thing i will say is that i'm suprised at how little attention is being paid here and elsewhere about mick and keith having a heart to heart and talking things out.thats a BIG deal for stones fans, when is the last time anyone can remember keith saying he was sorry for anything?

dont be shocked ...

I think the odds have to be greater than 50/50 that the entire band will show up for the musical gig.

It's inconceivable to me that their would be that many coincidences. Given that MT is in NY as well, I am hoping he (and even Wyman) will be there, which would be a major coup for Lorne Michaels.

My hypothesis is that the decision for MJ to be on SNL was 'last minute' because he didn't want to commit until he was sure the boys (Keith) would be ready, and now he is.

Of course, I have absolutely no idea, but where there is smoke there is fire, and 30 Rock is ablazes right now!

It's a bit glaring, Teddy, that you did not also mention the other offered
guess, Maroon 5, who are involved in a major long-advertised concert at the
Preakness that day, which would certainly meet your condition of an expensive
contract that would be hard to get out of.

I think Teddy likes the Black Keys idea more because he likes the Black Keys more.
Whereas I like the Maroon 5 idea better because I like Maroon 5 less.
As far as I'm concerned, as I sorta indicated, the less the musicians are like
the Stones musicians, the better it is both for the Stones and for
Jagger's solo identity.

So, let's say it was Maroon 5. And now they're out because of the Preakness.
So what then?

So far neither Teddy nor the brain trust around here has come up with any
alternatives, other than my left-field suggestion of Rihanna's band.

Teddy may be indicating that there are no other famous non-Stonesey alternatives,
so its time for plan B, which might be a "Lorne fest", but which also brings
us back to the "assembly of superstars" idea...

As long as they're not Stonesey musicians, I don't see why not.

(Dave Stewart's current studio group is quite Stonesey musicially, and Dave
would of course drop everything to be there. But no, please. Stones
songs, ok, but not Keith Richards type arrangements! )

TeddyB1018 seems to be a legitimate source and he says that Mick is going to be backed up by a well known non-Rolling Stones band. But, he could just be saying that to throw us off and, in actuality, The Stones are playing. So, who really knows!

Well, if they include Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman, technically, that is a 'non-Rolling Stones band', a sort of 'Rolling Stones Super Group'.

When they had Taylor and Wyman - they were indeed a super group.

Research update: The Maroon 5/Wiz Khalifa show at the Preakness InfieldFest
starts at 1pm and probably ends before 5pm. Although Maroon 5 are currently
the headliners, it should not be that hard to switch the running order and
have M5 open. That would give them plenty of time to make the SNL dress rehearsal
at 5pm, as long as Mick and M5 get together sometime beforehand, maybe this
weekend, to work out their 2 or 3 musical numbers.

While logistically possible, unfortunately if that worked out, we'd have to listen to Maroon 5, and possibly worse, listen to Adam Levine and Mick duet on 'Moves Like Jagger'.

That would become arguably the worst moment in TV music history.

I would think it far more likely we will get repeated "Moves Like Jagger" jokes from the writers and no "tiny todger" jokes. At this stage, I'll be happy if Jagger performs musically. If he can't have the rest of the Stones with him for whatever reason, I wish he'd opt for Raphael Saadiq's band since they did so well last year at the Grammy's. I may also be one of the very few here who thinks Mick and Dave Stewart do very good work together. I'll take "Let's Work" over "Charmed Life" any day and the former is by far the least of their collaborations.

1) But, as previously detailed, it would be the best possible outcome for
Stones fans, in that it would be confirmation that all is well between Mick and
Keith and that 2013 Stones shows are on track, plus 2) big bonus: you don't
have to listen!

Unfortunately, it would be unavoidable, much like a train wreck. You don't want to look, but you can't help it.

As long as we are fantasizing about what might happen on SNL, let us not rule out the possibility of the Stones pulling off a major publicity stunt, to announce a world tour, the biggest ever, the BIG 50. I can see the camera filming the Stones traveling down the street on a flat bed truck playing a couple of songs, then entering the building for another couple of songs, then fireworks, and an announcement by Jagger and the Stones of the tour.

Sure, it was done before, but SNL was not involved either.

There is a band with a new LP coming out May 22 that is truly way more exciting than what's going on with the Stones.

What is all the talk about? A lot of nothing. Maybe next year.

And now a source on Shidoobee is calling it for the Stones!

yet for me the only interesting question is whether the musical act will be
billed as Mick Jagger and Maroon 5 or Mick Jagger featuring Maroon 5 or
Maroon 5 and Mick Jagger or Maroon 5 featuring Mick Jagger?

I would think the first one.

he said they were likely to do rock songs, not necessarily be a rock group, but...

All from Wikipedia: While they were in high school, lead vocalist and guitarist Adam
Levine, keyboardist Jesse Carmichael, bass guitarist Mickey Madden, and drummer
Ryan Dusick formed a garage band called Kara's Flowers and released one album in
1997...Maroon 5 has cited The Police, Talking Heads, and Prince as influences...
Maroon 5's songs tend to be very guitar-heavy..."Moves Like Jagger", an electropop
song represents a drastic change in the band's sound, with more of a dance feel to it.

("Moves" has sold approx the same amount as Elvis and the Beatles best-selling
tunes "Hound Dog" and "Hey Jude", despite illegal downloading)

Adam Levine and Alicia Keys, Wild Horses

Maroon 5? Haha, what a joke, you can go on and listen to that but donĀ“t tell us who knows what rock n roll is that this crap has something to do with that.

Now the cats out of the bag, Foo Fighters is exactly who Mick reached out to. There are some important issues with the festival, as their co-headliner Blink may be forced to cancel for health reasons. I guess we'll see what happens soon.
