The Amboy Dukes has some great stuff. Stranglehold and Journey to the Center of the Mind are classic garage band rock. He has some other good stuff from the 80s, and some shockingly bad stuff as well. Not a big fan, and have a problem getting past his political rants, much like Mel Gibson.

Do you believe everything you read, or just what fits your personal philosophy ?

I find it hard to play his music though I used to really like it. He's way over the top in my opinion. Also I think it's very hard to say anything about him without getting political or argumentative. I would imagine he's got some fans on this board.

The only thing I've ever heard musically is Cat Scratch Fever and that Damn Yankees song, and they're both really, really lame.

I was wondering if people were able to make a difference between the musical legacy and the more recent bullshit coming from a same person.

Until the mid 2000's I didn't know anything about his political ideas, and I liked his music when I was a teenager. I had a hard-rock period before discovering the blues and the Stones and he was part of the stuff I was listening to

Ted Nugent is not a source of interest for me nowadays, and I would not even consider going to see him live on stage but his musical legacy is here and the 76-80 era enjoyable IMHO

Okay, putting aside the political crap, I find his songs just boring-devoid of hooks. A couple bandmates and I were actually discussing him during a road trip the other day and we agreed that Cat Scratch Fever, for example, was one of the most boring, plodding songs ever. Debating which was worse, it or Takin' Care of Business by BTO, we unanimously agreed Ted's was worse. I saw him live once, when I was about 15, and actually left before the end because he sucked so much. He did swing out on stage on a rope in a loincloth, though.

Actually listened to the Cat Scratch Fever album yesterday for the first time in years. Just fun, horny rock - nothing to get hung about. Reminds me of high school.

still just about the best live guitarist out there in my opinion, and I've seen a lot of them (Blackmore, Neil Young, Page, Angus Young, Keef/Ronnie, Iommi etc). I was astounded by how great he was live in a small venue in Glasgow a couple of years ago. way better than when I saw him in the mid 80s. For recorded output, he's strictly a 70's artist. Politics?? who cares.

I consider myself middle of the road politically (I find the far left as annoying as I do the far right), and I'm no stranger to hunting, and I find the guy absolutely annoying. I don't think it's so much his political views as much as it's the way he's so obnoxious, arrogant, and confrontational about them that annoys me.

I might be a little more lenient towards him if I actually liked his music. After all, I disagree with a lot of the stuff Eddie Vedder spews but I let it slide because I love Pearl Jam's music, but I didn't like Ted Nugent even before I knew he had any political views at all. There are 1-2 songs I find listenable, but not enough that I ever bought an album, or even enough that I considered illegally downloading one of his albums for free.

I think he's a decent enough guitar player, but I just don't enjoy the songs.

Yeah, regardless of anything else, the songs just suck.

Ted's early stuff is good. He made some real good hard rock,guitar anthem albums.. Of course he's a nut job now. But I still don't mind listening to his music.
