It's a bit shorter than the boot on youtube.

Was looking for a marker of some kind to figure out if they edited part of the middle out or just did a fade after 4 minutes and found a part on the youtube when Mick is saying something like I want somethin' bad enough BABY - a mild freakout. On the new one Mick does it except he draws it out a bit more and it's not quite as effective.

Overall it's pretty good. There's a distinctness to his current voice over the 1978 voice - back then he was a bit more lazy sounding, had a way of dragging the words out more without so much pronunciation of things; now he is very sharp about that, almost to the point of overdoing it to be so precise.

Nice harmonies. Sounds like the acoustic is new. Other than that and the vocals it sounds stock 1978 to me. And wow it's great to hear Bill playing like that.

Thanks for the link Carster!

Sorry, that is a Seinfeldian reaction...it won't mean anything if you don't know the show.

BORING...

Instead of wasting time on the past why don't they get together and make something current and push this thing as far as it can go?

Is there anything more boring than a 33 year old outtake of a half baked song?

Re: Some girls outake on Radio 2 tommorow

It sounds like Mick has overdubbed acoustic guitar, too.

They did that and it didn't work.

Remember A Bigger Bang?

There is something more boring than a 33 year old outtake that's a half baked song - it's called Streets Of Love. Or Sweet Neo Con. Or Rain Fall Down. They couldn't do something as simple and flowing like this, especially since they don't have Bill Wyman to make it move. There's more interest is doing this kind of work than something new.

yep. been saying they should quit the pretense of being interested in making new tunes since well before ABB...and just open the vaults...but i didn't realize that they had license to doctor their history...i guess i should have mentioned that explicitly....

Wonderful stuff. The new vocals and lyrics fit the song well.

I love how people suddenly get disappointed that a 33-year old outtake that theyve already heard and which most people asked to be released ISNT a new Brown Sugar.

I really like it, but yeah, seems an odd choice for a single release.

ANY single released by someone pushing 70 is an 'odd choice'.

Its not as if there was any chance of the Stones releasing a chart topper.

Thanks very much, Carter.

I'm really expecting a couple of Jagger-Richards-Wood credits, but we'll see. "When You're Gone" definitely should be.
Here's my pass at the lyrics:

NO SPARE PARTS

Your Daddy drank himself half to death when he was 39 years old
But I hope you don’t think I feel like a father to you
But I want to tell you I miss you so much, you’re a thousand miles away
I’m at the wheel of my car and I’m coming on home to you

Lonely Hearts, they’re not made to break
I got no spare parts; I got no oil to change
Honey, I ain’t accustomed to lose
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get through

I take 210 to Phoenix, I’ll be in Tucson by the afternoon
Get some shut eye in Vista and a bite at the greasy spoon
Took the turn off 90, I should have stayed on the interstate

I was lost in Rio; my map was kind of out of date
I saw the lights of Markham; I guess it was a scenic route
When I had to change a tire, I’m glad I wore my western boots

Lonely Hearts, they’re not made to break
I got no spare parts; I got no oil to change
Honey, I ain’t accustomed to lose
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get through

When I got to Sonora, the sun was shining in my eyes
With the air combusted, the windshield full of flies
In just a few hours, you’re gonna fall in my loving arms
I been so hot to see you, I set off the fire alarms

Lonely Hearts, they’re not made to break
I got no spare parts; I got no oil to change
Honey, I ain’t accustomed to lose
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get through

Thanks for taking time to do that, it's a nice pass at lyrics. Although I think Markham should be Marfa, he's probably referring to the Marfa Lights

I like this. New vocals but not over the top. Production sounds about right. If "Do You Think", "You Win Again" and "Tallahassie Lassie" turn out this good (Claudine and We Had It all will probably be as we know them), I think we will have a pretty good rootsy Stones album. I'm thinking with 12 tracks, many of which have a country/rockabilly feel, that this will be more like a cohesive album than the Exile outtakes disc.

Did anybody figure out if "Dont Be A Stranger" and "Keep Up Blues" are songs we may know under a different title?

Thanks to the poster!

Ross

thank you ! very fast download.
Well I am quite happy with the voice. It sounds like the original and I clearly hear Charlie's sound like on the boot. It is not a new crystal clear sound but a bit roots like on the original tapes.

the song starts after (on the boot ) jagger sings" baby baby baby", thats why the needed the accoustic to get a clear start (on the C ), then after the first two lines there is already an edit of 50 seconds in the music track so i think they wanted the nicest bits of the two chord sequences and there will be multiple edits throughout.

nice song though . i like it , and its right , nice guitars.

Thanks for the link Carster

There's something strange about this era of The Rolling Stones. I think the bootlegs have kept it just as interesting, like Static In The Attic, which I love. Some Girls was such a stark contrast to the previous album as well as IORR and GHS of course.

This track is excellent. This recording reveals what worked so well about Some Girls - the space in the music. There's way more space in this version of the Stones than previously. The production helps. It's probably why Some Girls and Emotional Rescue sound so good, ER more so.

I thought it came out well. I do think it's an odd choice for a single (imagine if "Faraway Eyes" had been the A-side originally in 1978), but I don't have any complaints. I think some of Mick's backing vocals are the original vocals. Definitely a new acoustic guitar at the intro and it sounds like an electric guitar overdub that first shows up at 0:55:30 and repeats throughout, but it could just be clever mixing.

Thanks to big4, I took another pass at getting the lyrics right. I think it might be Amarillo rather than Rio as well.

i didn't read every post ....but i didn't see any expecting a "new Brown Sugar". might have missed that.

someone DID say that it would fit with the warhorses at the end of a concert. That's ridiculous.

Generally I like it (not as much as PMS & Sophia Loren). Surprisingly I had never
heard the bootleg version until talk of a new release.

I disagree with you. Was "A Bigger Bang" a masterpiece? no it wasn't but it was an attempt to keep moving forward and for that they should be applauded.

People around here talk about "A Bigger Bang" like it was some type of huge embarrassment or something. The fact is that the record sold pretty well (hit #1 on the World and European Charts)for a pop record by 65 year old men in an era when albums simply do not sell.

It also did fairly well critically making several best of 2005 lists. If memory serves Rolling Stone listed it as the 2nd best cd of 2005. Sometimes we expect too much.
