I've got a sh*tload of vinyl as you have seen . I haven't had the energy to make list of the 45's and picture sleeves but I'm curious .

What's the story with the US release 45 on London in which the LONDON is printed in white letters ?

I constantly am obsessed with looking for these as they and seem to elude me

.

treacle , steffie what's the dealio ?

Great question....I DON'T have the answer!

I have several of these odd ones....they seem to be limited to Heart of Stone, The Last Time, Satisfaction and As Tears Go By - Get Off My Cloud? I'm not certain of that one, I'd have to check my collection when I get home from work.

These white London letter labels seem to have been an interim step moving from the purple/white label, to the azure swirl label, with the black London lettering.

I'm quite certain I haven't seen any other US 45's with the white lettering? Anyone else know?

I think the changeover must have started sometime in 1965 and end by 1966, as Heart of Stone starts off as the purple and white, goes to the white London letters, and then black. Because we don't seem to get any white London Letter 45's after 1966, ie Paint It Black, I'm presuming it was just a 1965 phenomenon.

ALSO, my Heart of Stone picture sleeve came with the white London lettering, which leads me to believe this occurred fairly early in the year (but after the Last Time was issued in February, as it's first releases were still purple and white label.

By the time we get to Satisfaction though, no purple and white anymore.

Good topic Boston, I've wondered about this one myself!

This one puzzled me before, and will continue to puzzle me. An ADMITTED photocopy of the 'original' Beast of Burden picture sleeve, selling on EBAY...current bid, $101 with 1 day 19 hours to go and 6 bids so far.

This same seller, big-boy-al has sold several of these, and also Street Fighting Man. In the past, they have sold between $200-300. He always admits they are photocopies.

Here is the link:

I believe, the 3rd rarest behind Street Fighting Man & Beast of Burden.

I think it sells in the $300-500 range, although I've seen it go for $800 a few years ago on Ebay.

Went for $609 this week...

wow...the market seems to be coming back. I bought this for $18 including shipping, from a 'BUY IT NOW' on ebay.co.uk about 3 years ago.

I find that sometimes the best opportunities come with UK items on the ebay US site, and vice versa. Thanks for sharing that tid bit!

Cool! Do you collect any UK DECCA pressings? Does that mean you have the Beast of Burden original picture sleeve, from '78?

Are you Japanese...what attracted you to the huge number of Japanese albums (I have a few, but I'm pretty sure none are really rare).

Any pix?

Hi everybody. Yesterday, I got this very unusual US GHS and I can hardly say what it is. According to some 'marks' onto labels, I'd tend to say it's the very first US press, but I'd prefer to wait for the experts' opinions:
1. rear cover: a small, styled SSL printed at the lower left corner. Printer's
trade-mark? I have many copies of early US GHP, but never saw this before;
2. label:
a. Goat's instead of the usual Goats for the album title
b. Essex Music is credited as copyrioght owner (?!?): never seen this for a US
album
c. 'new' font type never used before, and after, onto RSR labels
d. no matrix data onto labels and this makes impossible to know in which plant
the record was pressed
e. AT onto dead wax indicates that la laquer was cut at Atlantic Studios
f. ATCO address onto labels is still in Broadway. They moved to Rockefeller
Centre in mid-1973 and all the GHS-realted US records show the new Atlantic
address

According to:
. Essex Music copyright control: we might guess is an export record sent to a
Country where Essex Music holds copyright control of RS music, instrad of
Promotone. Personally, I do not think this is correct as the US export copy
of 'Black and Blue' to Malaysia has regular US copyright controller manteined
onto labels;
. ATCO address: we might gues this is a very very early finished copy used for
demo purpouses only. If so, what was wrong with the cover and caused the SSL
to be erased? If so, it should be dated before the end of July 1973

One last point: this is the classic record you come across if you open every record you meet and look at it. eBay is a great place, but I still think that nothing's as good as visit to a record shop...
Thanks to all who'll care to reply. Have a nice Sunday, Luca

FOR SOME REASONS, PHOTBUCKET DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO POST PICTURES: YOU CAN SEE IT POSTED IN STONES VIKING'S COLLECTOR'S CAFE, WHERE I'VE STARTED A THREAD CALLED
U.S. GOAT'S HEAD SOUP FOUND. SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENT. LUCA

Thanks for the link...further to some posts there, I checked my 45 promo labels, and my "Angie's" show Rock Center, my "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo's" B'way, and I have a juke box maxi single with Star Star that shows no address. My only vinyl copy is Canadian, so of no use as a reference.

Surprised me actually...I believe it's the only stones album I have only one copy of in vinyl.

This thread will not DIE! It's just been horribly mismanaged of late. I have a bunch of stuff that I'm going to try to photo and post.

By the way, did you happen to glance at the wikipedia link I posted above your post? A great read if you're into records!

PS...thanks for the post Boston...good to see you're still collecting. Most recent purchase I made was for an original pressing (probably 3rd version) of 'The Rolling Stones' from 1964 on DECCA. Great condition (I have 5 or 6 now), but still elusive for me is the 'short' version of 'Tell Me'...I thought this was going to be it but no. I will press on!

I'd like to get that as well...that and a US promo copy of I Wanna Be Your Man.

Some Girls Super Deluxe I believe retailed for $189.00, but averages around $149.

I bought it for 62 GBP's on Amazon UK and $99 on Amazon.ca just after Christmas.

I've seen Exile Super Deluxe for about 45 GPB's on Amazon.co.uk lately.

Definitely dont' overpay on Some Girls, as that has to come down in price again...were you bidding on EBAY and what was it going for?

OK, vinyl pressed in UK for export market...where is the sleeve from? I have the original German, which is on a red decca label and has the classic JJF single cover with jagger with the knife in his mouth.
