Gazza, just gotta say that what you've been saying all along, among others, is seemingly true, which was that bit Was said about the warehouse:

'"There's stuff that nobody's heard," he added. "The things that have slipped out on bootleg is just a fraction of what's available. They could do this with every album they've ever made if they wanted to."'

I have always thought that there's enough leftovers from each album session alone, yet alone what they carry over to work on further (Some Girls unfinisheds to Emotional Rescue sessions to be worked on further etc) could make easily one album's worth of tunes for each album.

Take Some Girls. Mick said that forty some tracks were recorded for Some Girls. He said forty some tracks were recorded for Emotional Rescue. That leaves, what, 60 songs minimum left over. Tattoo You has, from what I can tell, two? songs that were recorded for Some Girls and three, I think, recorded for Emotional Rescue.

That leaves...55 songs minimum leftover from those two album sessions (by going only by 40 songs for each album, not including the "some" of forty some songs).

Although I can not place this as factual because I can not recall where I've read this nor source it but from what I have read over the years there are songs on and recorded for Goats Head Soup that were started (as in written and possibly demoed, maybe even recorded but not finished) during the Exile sessions (and not the Sticky Fingers sessions).

That is a possibility for where other leftover songs are. They just weren't finished for Exile but were for Soup. My own speculation, of course. It is certainly plausible. There is no reason to think they did not write more than what is on Exile. How many that is I certainly do not know. I do remember reading something about the copyright for 100 Years Ago being an ABKCO song which would most likely mean it was a Sticky Fingers sessions written (recorded even) song that was possibly in the line for Exile that was later recorded again, therefor stripping the ABKCO Music copyright and allowing them to have full control over their catalogue for the first time EVER.

So, on a shorter note, bring it on. I'm ready.

There are at least 60 songs in circulation from 1977-79 alone that didnt appear on any album.

Granted, many of them are (based on the versions we've heard) not finished, but it's not unrealistic to think that a reasonable amount of them exist somewhere in a vault in a form which is releasable.

"are you sure one can call that songs"

I agree : what popped up on the market around 1993 with the "Paris Results" was often dire, even for the hardcore fans... A three-note riff repeated over 50 bars (hardly a song there)

Well, you did choose to omit the next sentence I wrote where I acknowledged that many werent finished.

And whilst several go nowhere, we simply dont know if there are more complete versions of some of those songs or not. Its a bit of a sweeping generalisation to dismiss them all the same way.

C'mon Tod, most everyone knows real Spartans are from San Jose! What's with this Michigan state stuff? In regards to Exile I'll wait to read the reviews before taking the plunge. Sounds pretty cool though, especially if an official release of Ladies and Gentlemen is in the offing...

Michigan State Spartans, of Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI.

I do not know why they are called the Spartans. But what's even better, the hated University Of Michigan Wolverines (ask a die hard Spartan fan, they'll most likely reply Screw The Blue)? Well, there never were wolverines in Michigan to begin with...

Oh - just to keep this particular post Stones related - The Rolling Stones, so far (until U2's 360 Tour gets there in June of '010) are the only band to play Spartan Stadium. And it did not sell out, which is bizarre actually because it's not a huge stadium by any means.

Spartan Stadium seats 75,000. Not as huge at Michigan Stadium's 107,000 capacity, but still pretty huge!

i am not talking abouth them missing a verse or a chorus or vocals or overdubs or that they are not finished yet.

i meant those songs or ideas are not even ideas, but standard r&b, rock n´roll stuff licks and jams that they could do for days,
but that is not worth it to make anything out of it.
because there is nothing there.
no song idea there.

it´s riciculous to think that every fart they did in the old days must be good.

we already heard all their good songs, at least that is my conviction.

Yep, we're on much the same page.

I'd say we've maybe heard all their GREAT songs, but if a band are, say, going to spend 4-5 months in the studio recording an excellent album like Some Girls and then only release 11 of the 50 or so songs that they cut, then I dont think its unrealistic to think that some of those leftovers may have been finished and shortlisted for possible release. I think its quite feasible that while not possibly of the standard of the songs on the album, some of them could be of a high enough standard to be deemed releasable within the limitations that we could reasonably expect from an archives project.

Stoneswashed77, am I correct in thinking that you'd prefer not to hear/listen to the Stones playing "standard r&b, rock n´roll stuff licks and jams that they could do for days" from the 1970s compared to, oh, I dunno, the 1990s?

The Stones noodlings from the Some Girls (yet alone Black And Blue and Emotional Rescue) sessions that, as far as we know, are not finished are far better than a majority of songs on Dirty Work, Steel Wheels, Voodoo, Bridges and Bang in totality. For example, Misty Roads surpasses anything from any of those albums - unfinished even. Or whatever version of Munich Hilton you prefer. Or I Can't Help It (or whatever it's called, I Need You, the one with Keith and Mick "singing" ).

you are correct i don´t like to hear r&b or R&R music from the stones. i want real songwriting. they released some blues and rock&roll and that´s alright but enouh for me.

i want more than that, r&b and r&r are dead for very long now.

just like punk. :-)

i am not impressed. for me this is not better than modern stones records.

i would highly prefer another abb and i don´t really like this record.
