QuotejamesfdouglasDefine classic. Critically/fan adored? Hits? Both? If both... mine's a doozy! KEEP ON ROCKIN' IN THE FREE WORLD! How that was missed... In my original post I had written: "For this I'll define a classic rock song as one that will get radio play at least 10 years after release." (And I love Neil Young! He's probably got a few over 40.)

Looking through classic rock radio station logs in my town of Chicago, it’s hard to find many songs in heavy rotation that were written by someone over 40. For this I'll define a classic rock song as one that will get radio play at least 10 years after release. Is it even reasonable to expect any more than they’ve done from Jagger/Richards? What are songs you hear in heavy rotation writt

Even though I always thought Constant Craving was a good song, I would have thought Keith would have said to Mick, "Let's cut the KD Lang sounding song from our album" instead of "Let's give KD Lang songwriting credit."

QuoteRuby FridayAnd George, is he the only Beatle to share a mic with a Rolling Stone ?, I've remember seeing George and Mick sharing a mic during "I saw her standing there" when Beatles wre introduced in the "Rock Hall of Fame". It was amazing too see, I really can't remember any other time when a Beatle and a Stone share a mic, can you ? <object width="

After listening to Mick for decades and never hearing anyone do an authentic sounding Mick impression, I would have to say that that is him singing on this song.

Flowers was my first Stones album after Hot Rocks. An old Flowers cassette was given to me by a priest in Chicago in 1976. I loved it then and still still find it a good listen now. I think Take it or Leave It, Ride On Baby, Sitting on a Fence are hidden little gems. Backstreet Girl - fantastic. I don't listen to it as much as the amazing Stones albums I discovered in the years after that, b

I loved the Tom Petty half-time show. I was surprised he did 3 songs off of his first solo album, Full Moon Fever from 1989, but that was his biggest album. Mike Campbell played the hell out those songs. American Girl is one of my all time favorites. Their original bass player who left in 1982 was on stage after his replacement died from drugs after 20 years in the band. If you want to se

QuoteskipstoneI have NEVER understood the bit about 'but the levee was dry' - only an idiot would drive to the levee if it was holding back say, I dunno, the Mississippi River, Lake Ponchartrain or the Gulf Of Mexico..... Don't know if you're just joking, but the line means that his day was so bad that he drove to the levee to commit suicide but he couldn't even do that

That is an unbelievably sad story. He got to spend his last moments playing music with his good friend, open-g, cheering him on from the crowd. He's lucky to have had such a good friend. I'm sorry you had to experience and witness such a tragic loss. Godspeed to Zosche and those who loved him.

QuoteKoenQuoteROLLINGSTONEAll bassists first and foremost, not just other instrumentalists who couldpluck out a few lines on a bass. I totally agree - guitar players shouldn't play bass Paul McCartney would disagree. Guitarist for the Beatles until Stu Sutcliffe left. Ron Wood plays some of the Stones more interesting bass lines (Break the Spell, Emotional Rescue, Shattered...) as does

Awesome video! Brian using his thumb instead of a pick. Supposedly the Stones' equipment was stolen and they used borrowed guitars for the video shoot. That's a long 2 1/2 minutes when you have no straps. At least Keith found a pick.

Standard tuning, capo on 7th fret if you want to play like Keith.

My third grade teacher analyzed that song for our class back in 1971 and said the same thing about Dylan and James Dean. (Of course Jagger is referenced a couple times in that song.)

Wow, post-Stones is almost always depressing. Frampton's playing is nice, but a little boring, No bite on that guitar tone. And Mick's singing with feeling and stage presence didn't seem to rub off on Bill at all in those 30 years. If you're going to sing in monotone, you might as well use that keyboard and break into "In Another Land." Still love Bill though.

Fan, though since my best man/brother mentioned in his toast at my wedding that my favorite group was the Stones in high school and then still when I got married in my 30's, a very big fan. (My claim to Stones fame: you can hear he and I talking in between songs on the Stones at the Double Door bootleg.)

I can see where the confusion comes in. If you are talking about: Keith is tuned to Open E Flat, albeit out of tune E Flat. The Beggars Banquet version is in the key of E, which can be played in Open D with a Capo on 2nd fret or Open E, no capo. Sound the same, but less stress on the strings in open D as was pointed out.

I have the Hal Leonard Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street Guitar Tab Book. It is pretty accurate, and unlike most Stones songbooks actually shows the chords with open G tuning which is a must for about half this album. There are a lot of old Stones chord books out there which will not help at all if you want to sound at all like Keith.

Love that song. Kind of a sister riff to Beast Of Burden. I thought it would have made a great first single instead of Mixed Emotions. I thought it had a chance at number one on both sides of the Atlantic if released first IMHO, of course. It's still in rotation in whatever music service the malls subscribe to, as I still hear it when shopping in Chicago from time to time. When it came out I

I love Jagger's vocals, but not on Hold Back and Dirty Work and about half of his solo work. But he came back and did some amazing vocals on Steel Wheels, especially Break the Spell, Continental Drift and Almost Hear You Sigh IMO.
