Dirty Work was the first new album to come out after I'd become a fan, aged about 18, so on that basis I have some affection for it, though it's clearly very far from their best.

Quotebitusa2012 So I left this alone for Sunday and this morning here in Perth today just to see if, after a break from it, it would have the same emotional impact. Cranked it up, and hit play. For me the last two minutes prior to the drop out/ start again, and the whole last 2 minutes of “coda” are amongst the most beautiful, powerful, soulful, ESSENTIAL and primal Stones ever recorded. I

QuoteCristiano Radtke The last time I felt amazed by hearing a new Stones song to the point of playing it on repeat was when "Plundered my Soul" was released (although it was not technically a "new" song). This time they've done it again, only better. Knowing that the album has a "anger" theme, as said by Mick, and its artwork refers to "relationships a

Great read...hope you don't mind some people won't bother clicking the link...here is the text: I was in the studio at Henson preparing for Joker, leaving to go home for the night and someone said “Mick wants to see you.” I only know one Mick, so I walked down to a studio at the ot

We don’t have a right to expect such a jaw-dropping song so late in the game. Truly a classic.

Reminds me of the lyrics to Wandering Spirit... I was a glutton at the banquet And I split the finest wine Trod the pyramids and ruins of Angkor And I kissed the Mona Lisa And had breakfast with king And I touched the nerves of nature in the raw.

QuoteChristiaan QuoteEasterMan What a bunch of whiners on here who always have to complain about everything. Great interview and it was nice to hear Mick talk about Charlie. Totally agree with you. Great interview. One of the best I’ve seen with Mick in years. He was in a great mood and shared nice things about recording, mixing and about Keith and of course our beloved Charlie A very enj

A funny question I know for a fan forum where we absolutely should know the basics inside out - but what exactly is the band's official name? Is it 'The Rolling Stones' or just the 'Rolling Stones'? I've seen both on official CD and merchandise releases... (I'll keep this post short. I don't want to end up writing a definite article about the defin

QuoteDoxa Being a hardcore fan of this band means that one dislikes 'war horses' and leading singles of the albums. Those are just meant for ignorant casual fans. For true hardcore fans and their educated ears the true greatness of the Rolling Stones lies in somewhere else, in deep cuts and loose studio out-takes from bootlegs. But no need to worry yet. There probably is a new "

The video reminds me of a mix of their pre-concert intro clips + Ride Em On Down. It's fun, we can see the Stones in their prime, great song, sexy chick... what's not to like?!

Quotegotdablouse The sound of the (at times "walking") bass is really something ! Can't say I've ever heard anything like that before ! Yeah the chorus (or bridge?)...I remember writing that "Don't Get Angry, Fix It" sounded like a poor man's "Don't Get Mad, Get Even" and that chorus does sound a bit Aerosmith, no ? I’d agree that it sou

QuoteBig Al Could the success of Blue & Lonesome be partly due to a sense that they’re a little more en vogue these day’s? I’ve often felt that, over the last decade, there’s been a growing nostalgia and recognition for and of the Stones. This - in my opinion - wasn’t quite there for the releases of Bridges to Babylon and A Bigger Bang. I think that their 50th anniversary was a turning-point

Quotekeefmick I for one am quite surprised that there is a discussion of another tour at all after the highly qualified medical personnel on this board have thoroughly examined a still photo or two and maybe a second or two of video and determined that Mick is no longer fit for touring. I'm a bit surprised he hasn't listened to their advice and let us know individually that he can no lo

QuoteTeaAtThree As a recording act, I'd agree that Undercover and the video for the song Undercover were the last moments of relevance. The long layoff to the disappointing Dirty Work and then another three years for Steel Wheels meant they fell off the radar. As a concert draw, again a long layoff from '82 to '89 meant they were in "comeback" mode, which is a step re

If you look at all the other photos of people arriving/leaving the party, you can see they are all being supported by a doorman or bouncer... the stairs must have been slippery and the club didn't want a law suit is my guess

I love ASMB - I think most people probably do - but it must have a lot to do with its production as live it falls flat, a bit like Love Is Strong as above.
