I remember watching that weekend and being impressed that Mick did State of Shock with Tina (and the Hall And Oates Band!- WTF?) as I always liked that little ditty, mortified at the Keith, Ronnie and Bob debacle and pissed that my favorite band couldn't be bothered to perform together. Context is everything. The Summer of 1985 was only three years removed from the '81-'82 tour

Quotedjgab first ideas flashing in my head : Paris Texas / Ry Cooder The Hot Spot / John Lee Hooker, Miles Davis I'm right there with you on Paris, Texas. Ry Cooder's finest hour in my opinion. I saw the movie on cable in the '80s and found it pretty boring but ran out and bought the soundtrack album the next day. I am also partial to Band of the Hand (a truly terrible &

I think Mr.D works fine as an opener because he heralds perfectly the 'Goats Head Soup' album : a slow, atmospheric, misty, non-flamboyant album. Putting CC at the beginning of Ghs would b

Funny, I am a fan of several live albums that always get knocked: 1) I have always enjoyed Slow Train on Dylan and The Dead. I saw this tour in Eugene 2) I always like Joined Together by The Who. I saw this tour in Tacoma. I get why people knock it, there were 30 people on stage and Pete was playing acoustic behind a screen but I still enjoyed the music. 3) I LOVE Still Life. It's s

I received an advance copy of this book. Following is my Amazon review: I am not quite sure how to review this book. Allen Klein was a businessman, not a rock star. He made his name as ruthless accountant / auditor who "found" money for his early music industry clients and later was a pioneer in negotiating artist-friendly recording contracts. Therefore, this is a biography of an

QuoteElmo Lewis Love the groove and overall sound. What ruins it for me is the political lyrics. Not very good no matter what your political leanings. BTW, she wasn't much of a beauty. Would have been a great song with better lyrics. Ditto "Blinded By Rainbows". I've always liked Dangerous Beauty but I will agree with you on Blinded By Rainbows. Of course, neither so

Tempted is absolutely timeless, not dated in any way. Does anybody remember the solo album Paul Carrack did right after Squeeze called Suburban Voodoo? It was a Nick Lowe produced effort and the single. I Need You, got some MTV airplay at the time. It is in a similar slow-burn vein as Tempted and has always stuck with me as a really good song.
