According to the 'Searching for shakes" database Adrienne Posta released Shang a doo lang on the 20th of march 1964, so about 2 months after Pitney and Bean brought out their songs.

Jimi had played as a session musician under the name Jimmy James with big stars like Ike & Tina, Sam Cooke and Little Richard before he was discovered by Chad Chandler. Hendrix played with Don Covay in his band "The Goodtimers" in 1964 and recorded Mercy Mercy though it was a single under the name of just Mercy!

Question was published, not played or rehearsed or whatever. "That girl belongs to yesterday" was only first published in january 1964. In the same month George Bean brought out his single "will you be my lover tonight" that also credits Jagger/Richards. "Stoned" (Nanker Phelge) could be regarded as their first published "song" then, as a B-side to &q

Has someone mentioned Jimi Hendrix live at Woodstock? And Ladies & Gentlemen should definitely be on any of those lists.

Ooh La La was probably the first ever lead vocal by Woody ever to be recorded? I'm not sure of this, but I would not know of any lead vocals he did before this.

I don't think these vocals are coming from anyone on or near the stage, but were added in the studio. When you listen to bootleg recordings of GOOMC you'll only hear Mick singing the first Hey and the first You and the backups will only sing the reply. On this Austin movie you clearly hear another voice than Micks singing the first Heys and Yous. As it probably happened in the studio I

Saw the short version of the Austin show at German television ZDF (named Honky tonk women in Austin) and noticed someone overdubbed Mick's singing "Hey You" on Get off of my cloud but I did not recognise the voice. It certainly is not Mick's. Now who is this mystery singer? Any ideas? BTW, there is a lot of dubbing most notably at Under My thumb. I had this uncomforta

Ahem. You are all nitwits, that is for sure. How is it possible none of you noticed Mick died last year because Keith fell on his head when he dived down this coconut tree. The "Mick" you all see is nothing more than a puppet on a string and Keith is performing all Mick's moves through an ingenious device hidden in his guitar. So when we see Keith playing his guitar, he is not crea

Those were the days. I was about 13 years old when ER was out as a single and I thought Micks falsetto was really cool at the time. I must have been a nightmare for my parents and little sister, going around the house using this horrible voice 13 year old boys have to cope with, singing "Is there nothing I can say nothing I can do" all the time. I must be the only fan around here who

Maybe he meant a hit song for the album It's only RnR? Whatever it was, he said, it is hard to believe he comes with a claim for co-writing the song IORR after all these years. He did not hold back to claim his rights for Waiting on a Friend the moment it was published. Other than that: The European tour ended on 19th oktober 1973 in Berlin. Six days later both Mick J and Mick T supp

>>only part that bothered me was the overdubbed and too high "HEY" and "YOU" mick sang in Get off my cloud<< Do you think it is actually Mick we hear singing here? I even have thought it was overdubbed by Bernard or some other stand in. Does not really sound like Micks voice to me.

My favorite version of MR is the one on Ladies & Gentlemen. I remember clearly the first time I saw this movie. Thus far I was misled into the perception that Mick T was a superior guitar player and Keith was reduced to being a rhythm player. After seeing L&G I realised for the first time it was actually Keith who made the difference in those years. Keith, and Charlie that is. Keith a

Is the Paris solo the second one in this file? I think Ronnie is having one of his moments of brilliance here. Not only does he start on a subtile note, but the way he works towards the climax is one of the finest ever to come from his hands. Gotta love the man!

@ LA Forum: I listen to a lot of recordings too, (and enjoy it), but the point is: the artists are only having responsibilities to those who paid for a ticket. We, listeners of bootlegged sound recordings and DVDs, are just the ones who choose to listen to those and we have no right whatsoever to complain if the boots are not listenable enough.

A live show is only meant to serve one purpose: enjoy the people who paid for a ticket to be there. So, a live show is not meant to generate bootlegged sound recordings. It is not meant to be seen on cell phone videos by way of youtube. It is not meant to be discussed on a note to note basis by people who were not even within a 100 mile radiance of the show. etc. The quality of a live s

Well, what is shitty playing actually? In my humble opinion Keith's licks on It's all over now seem rather accurate. If you'd say sloppy, well I'd might agree, but no way this is what I would consider shitty playing. And after reading numerous reports and seeing the same videos on youtube, I come to the conclusion that there were some people who did not enjoy the full show,

After reading all this I still don't get a clear picture of what is going on. Too many different points of view from those who were present. A question that occurred to me is, how does the supposed underperformance of Keith relate to the big number of Keith songs they rehearsed? Was the emphasise on Keith solo songs necessary because they could not find two songs he could work out from st

I hate it when people feel obliged to make excuses when they are writing what they honestly feel is their opinion. I hate it even more when other people don’t give others room to write what they truly felt. We all should fee free to express our thoughts and feelings and it helps to inform the other users on this board who were not present to get an idea of what was going on.

I was at Ahoy as well. What a great Arena it still is! The Netherlands are notorious for underrating The Who I think. Somehow I got the feeling The Who were for that reason a bit careful towards the 10.000 Dutch fans that did come to the AHOY Rotterdam. Just as if they thought, alright we do have 10.000 fans in The Netherlands, let's keep those satisfied or we might lose the very last o

I love this song. I like the way it builds up a certain tension that's only released (releaved?) by this brilliant solo of Ronnie. I think the "Face of Christ lyrics" are very effective here, where the Northern Ireland problems are involved. Either side of the conflict is (was) hiding behind their (christian) religious background and Mick is asking the righteous question how on

"you can be one of the many that come and sit in. That never happened. Ronnie changed his mind soon after that" Well, I don't know. There was some sort of audition wasn't there? Like with the recording of Black & Blue? How else did Wayne Perkins and Harvey Mandel come to join in? I guess there is more truth in Keith biography where the author claims Lofgren did show up

The tours they did without Roger they fell back on Mark Heart from the Crowded House to fill in on Rogers part. Needless to say, this was hardly an adequate replacement. Now, not that I am really fond of Rogers singing anyway. I always preferred the more bluesy-jazzy approach of Rick Davies over the pathos of Roger. The guy played a wicked guitar though.

Like someone posted before: the question is not if we think LIB is the best album, but if it is the quintessential album. That question is not as subjective as some of the answers appear to be. It is very hard to say which album is quintessential when it is hard to say what really defines the Stones. If your definition of the Stones is this band of skinny English cats who took the black mans m
