yeah they are ok, I've always liked them ever since, "Right, right, you bloody well right".....now there's a song I hear on the radio a lot that samples their "take a look at my girlfriend, she's the only one I got, not much of a ......" line.....I don't know the name of the "artist" but it gets a lot of airplay on this station my daughters listen to.....

Sure! Great band. Got all their albums. Seen them live ages ago. Would go and see them any time. But they need to bring in Roger Hodgson. Without him it is only 50% Supertramp and not interesting, like Stones without Jagger.

Liked them back in the 70's - 80's. Crime of the Century, Breakfast in America...
Saw them live in Gothenburg 1979. Great show.

Wonder how their "babylike singer" sounds today...

They were pretty big here in the US in the late seventees/early eightees. "The Logical song" is one of my all time faves. "Take The Long Way Home" is pretty good too.

I don't care about them, and never will. Too poppy...

Great band but Roger Hodgson must be in otherwise it is not that interesting.

Re: Supertramp

A fine band with a really unique sound, good Live too. I was at school with Roger Hodgson's brother.......I know how interesting that must be for everyone to know!

The falsetto pitch style singer is Roger Hodgson. He did the most popular songs like Dreamer, Breakfast in America, Give a Little Bit, Logical Song, Take The Long Way Home.

See their web sites
[www.rogerhodgson.com]

Supertramp.com looks like Rick Davies owns the web site. He was the other writer, did stuff like "Bloody Well Right" and "Crime Of The Century". Don't know if he will tour Supertramp with or without Roger Hodgson. Without doesn't make much sense to me.

The tours they did without Roger they fell back on Mark Heart from the Crowded House to fill in on Rogers part. Needless to say, this was hardly an adequate replacement.
Now, not that I am really fond of Rogers singing anyway. I always preferred the more bluesy-jazzy approach of Rick Davies over the pathos of Roger. The guy played a wicked guitar though.

Roger Hodgson plays a small local music fair (every year) near my house.
I always intend to go...this year I will. Here's the link:

Yup. Great band. Saw them twice. Once with Roger Hodgson and
once without him. But didn't like Mark Hart on vocals the last
time I saw them.

I liked "Crime of the Century". I first heard it right after I saw "One flew over the cuckoo's nest" and I thought the song "Asylum" was about the film. So I got all emotional. The ending of "Hide in your shell" is pretty cool.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

I LOVE their The Last Concert DVD from Munich on July 24, 1983, the last time Hodgson played with the band...here's the setlist:
Crazy, A'int Nobody But Me, Breakfast In America, Bloody Well Right, It's Raining Again, Put On Your Old Brown Shoes, Hide In Your Shell, waiting So Long, Give A Little Bit, From Now On, Logical Song, Goodbye Stranger, Dreamer, Rudy, Fool's Overture, School, Crime Of The Century.

YES, I'm a fan. Seen 'em twice and those were some of the best concerts I've been too - they put on powerful shows back in the day.....

Thanks for the heads up!

I was lucky enough to catch the last tour with Roger while on a Motorcycle tour of Europe in 1983. I saw them in Amsterdam at the Olympic Stadium. Great Show too! That show was one of the high lights of that whole trip. I was first turned on to them while in High School in Turkey in 1975 by some GI's I used to party with when my father was stationed there. Crime of the Century was unreal on their awesome sound system! I became an Instant fan. The Hash we smoked didn't hurt that experience either! : )

I would love to see a reunited Supertramp! Must be reunited though!

I think I was there too - I remember it started pouring during "It's raining again".

Roger Hodgson is playing solo at the casino in Niagara Falls this month.

Around these parts they are considered to be a "chicks" band. A feminine sound to their music.

They fall into the same category as Styx, REO Speedwagon, Bon Jovi, Journey, Foreigner.

Koen! Yes! Was that awesome or what! The hair on the back of my neck stood up when that happened! I have some great photos from that show somewhere! I even took a panoramic set of shots during that rain storm! The Dutch kids were so great to me. I had my 35 Mil in left hand and a six beer cardbord try on my right forearm and my girfriend holding on to my shirt and we went up front. The Dutch fans would pull my towards the front since I had a camera. At one point 3 of them grab me and hoisted me up on their shoulders for some great shots. It was one of those great days I will charish forever. I am so glad to know at least one of us on here was at that show that day. I remember Mink De Ville was supposed to open but was held up at a border or something and a naked guy came out and did a long comedy routine which I did not understand. That was wild and then Mothers Finest! I saw Them play a Pre Tour/warm up show in my town a few days before I left to go on my Motorcycle trip of Western Europe.

That comedian was Jango Edwards. But I don't recall MF. And Mink's delay had to do with some white powder.

BTW, Fred, that was a funny typo you just corrected grinning smiley

I could see REO.. and Bon Jovi being referred to as "chicks bands" but not the others mentioned above.

Yeah when I saw that I figured that would be taken completely wrong and some on here would have way too much fun with that! : )
Glad you saw it anyway!
Later,
Fred
