Interesting remark by Mick in the Whistle Test interview (thank you Nicos): "Stevie Winwood played on that" Q: "Is Ry Cooder on as well?" A: "No I don't think so, actually. Stevie plays everything apart from drums". I mean, if there is one person who could answer the question it would be Mick, but he seems not to be sure if Ry Cooder plays on Memo at all. The

As found on Timeisonourside.com: "Reminds me a bit of Blind Blake... Same inflection, with the double-voice chat going on underneath... The style is incredibly similar. But it's interesting because when you listen to Blind Blake, you can almost hear the crossovers going on." - Keith Richards, 1992, after listening to an obscure Robert Johnson suggested by the interviewer

We will see about Bill. The Rythm Kings were not a bunch of angry young men either, so who knows? Meanwhile I am thrilled and nervously pacing the room waiting for the anouncement of the ticket sales.

Mick and Keith have said a lot in interviews about the songwriting proces during ABB and although one could argue there are some Mick songs and some Keith song

Still, it is an interesting subject, though not really enhancing the fun of being a Stones-fan. Of course we all want the boys to carry on as a band and many of us are longing for new material or a new tour because everything new breaths life into our fanhood. It is an interesting thought to take Micks point of view and think about which goals he tries to achieve and what risks and possibiliti

Would anyone suggest that the guitar solos on All Sold Out (Between the Buttons) might have been influenced by Jimi's coming to the UK? Linda Keith saw Jimi for the first time on june 23th 1966 at Café Wha in New York and in september 1966 Jimi came to the UK for the first time and he stayed there until the end of the year at least. All sold out was recorded between august and december 19

I'm sure nobody around here is really proud of these kind of excesses the boys ever went through. Nobody will ever idolize one of the boys because of his drugs or booze addiction, excessive violence, lack of respect towards women and young girls et cetera. These things have just not much to do with the joy the band brought us by playing and performing music. We love them because they make

Do you think Too many cooks is a different version than the one that has been out on bootlegs, or is it the same version with a different mix? The version I already had clocked 3 minutes 25, the one on The Best of is 4 minute 4.The Sax solo seems longer on the new version, while on the other hand the ad libbing in the end seems to be shortened a bit.

We have to take in consideration that Keith had been playing with Mick Taylor for over 5 years. Taylor concentrated a lot on fills and solos. Ronnies role in The Faces, where he was the only guitar player, was a combination of holding rythms/playing riffs and taking a lead now and again. It is understandable that Keith thought Ronnie to be more Keithish in his playing than Taylorish. During th

Thanks for posting With Sssoul. Interesting to notice Mick first secured Keith's position in the band and later Ronnies. I know Mick has had a lot of negative remarks about his "commercial" approach to music. But this interview with Stu makes it clear again that Mick is a great talent scout. He knows how to build a strong team.

Interesting question: who, besides Mick and Ry Cooder are playing on the Performance version (also on London Years and Best Of Mick Jagger) of Memo from Turner? According to Nico Zentgraf an early version with Steve Winwood and Jim Capaldi (on drums) was recorded in september 1968. Later (around november 1968) Al Kooper supposedly joined in on guitar for the Metamorphosis version. No one kn

I am not too fond of all these stories about drugs and alcohol abuse and personal conflicts between band members. But it is all part of their history and most of the times these stories help to understand under which circumstances music was created. Knowledge like that adds a new dimension to the music and is beneficial to the appreciation.

Kenney Jones was a member of The Who after Keith Moon died. So in the late 70s early 80s Kenney was drumming with them and not The Stones. I would love The Faces to reunite. Rod Stewart did a lot of things (musically) I would not feel too proud of if I were him (like stealing Miss You from the Stones to turn it into Da ya think I'm sexy?) but he does have one of the best voices in Rock n

Are economics politics too? It is not necesarily a bad thing to devaluate a currency I guess. Alright, if you buy things in Europe, it will cost you more dollars I suppose, but as long as most things you buy are coming from other dollar-using countries you will not notice too much. The problem comes from the credit market. Too many American banks provided too many and too big loans to peopl

I don't know if Justin is regarding breaking up and going on to a solo carreer as a greater achievement than staying together. And in my humble opinion: a lot of the so called "solo" work of our boys is truely fine, but in most (maybe even best) cases I think it is just so because they managed to form another "team". Keith had a strong relationship with Steve Jordan,

Well, nobody knows for sure what goes on inside the hearts and minds of the Stones and the Beatles of course, so we can only guess. I think your hypothesis comes down to "every rock star wants to be a succesfull solo star, and a band is only a pedestal to get you attention before you start a solo career." I don't know if this is a right hypothesis to begin with. I guess some

2602. Re: WOODY
Actually there is no need to say unkind things about Mick Taylor to defend Ron Wood. Both are great and each had their own contribution to the Stones. One of the great things about the Stones is that they last so long that we can actually enjoy different era's with different music, different players and different live shows, but still the Stones. Let's enjoy it in all its epic greatnes

Modern Times is a cool album, with nice bluesy tracks, I like to play it late at night, whenever I'm not in the mood for The Rolling Stones Now! or the second side of Tattoo You, which is not too often I suppose.
