You gotta download it from google music if you're in the U.S. and they don't offer us the FLAC files for some damn reason......

Why on earth did they not offer FLAC files to U.S. residents? That's totally pissed me off. I'm glad SOMEBODY gets it in lossless, but I would have gladly paid a bit more if I'd had the option for FLAC files.

QuoteThricenay Have the Stones ever played Sweet Virginia in Virginia? I wonder if the audience sang along on the choruses... Well they certainly played it in Norfolk in '72. Dunno about any of the Charlottesville shows. They obviously didn't play it in Hampton in '75-'81.

I have The Dark Stuff. I really enjoyed it. I find Kent a very entertaining read, although as others have said, fast and loose with the facts sometimes. So let me get this straight, basically a bellend is a dickhead?

There wasn't any change in the setlist due to Bobby leaving. The Stones played a few songs in first couple shows that didn't appear again during the tour like "Bitch", "Sweet Virginia", and "100 Years Ago". "Silver Train" was dropped after maybe 5 or 6 shows. I know they played it at the first Wembly gig which was 9/7. For the rest of the tour

Quote71Tele If the version that Clapton played on was a birthday party, isn't it unlikely Clapton would have done a second guitar as an overdub? I would agree with you here, but after listening to it again several times, the lead does sound overdubbed. Of course it could just be the way it's mixed. It still sounds like Mick Taylor to me though, overdubbed or not.

QuoteMathijs QuoteTumblin_Dice_07 To chime in on the discussion about the Clapton version......Clapton and Taylor are both playing. Clapton is playing slide, and I'll bet my next pay check he's in open tuning, most likely open G although maybe D or E. Clapton usually uses open tuning for slide and you can tell by the "sliding chords" he's using at times that it's

QuoteStonesTod good post td - but as to this part: Fact of the matter is, most people are only casual listeners. Popular music has been dumbed down to appeal to people that don't really care as opposed to the hardcore fans. Does it have a good beat? A good hook? Is it catchy enough? Is the singer sexy? Those are the important things for popular radio. i agree - but hasn't that ALW

Quotekleermaker Just unbelievable that they didn't use Taylor's guitar for the studio version. It's a boring song on the album. But most live versions during the Taylor era, like the one from the Essen show 1970, are amazing and anything but boring. You think Taylor's not on the studio version at all? I thought he was. He certainly doesn't play a solo or anything bu

There's some good music being made today. You just won't hear much of it on the radio. The Drive By Truckers are the best band going right now for my money. I love Jason Isbell, the Black Keys are quite good. Jack White does some good stuff at times although I think he's a bit overrated in certain aspects. I love what I've heard from Gary Clark Jr. The music industry a

QuoteSugar Brown one more from STP'72 with strat (?) Love these guitar threads. Keith's '57 sunburst Strat that he used on the '72 tour for "Brown Sugar" was obviously in 5 string open G, but he appears to be playing a lead lick in this photo. I'm wondering if maybe he had it tuned in standard early in the tour? Or maybe this pic is from a show where the

I recorded a blues cd last year and covered "Black Limousine" and the Stones version of "Stop Breakin' Down". Don't have either ripped to the computer but I'll try to do so and post a link. I would usually record my rhythm guitar parts first. Usually two of them, one in the middle and one in a right or left channel. I usually just used a Strat or whatever

QuoteMathijs Anyway, most acoustic tracks until the mid 60's had a capo on the second fret, as it was the norm for most pro bands in those days to tune the acoustics a whole tone lower and then add a capo on the second fret. It makes a guitar sound a bit better and louder, and makes fretting with heavy strings a bit easier. Mathijs Interesting. Never heard that before.

QuoteFreeBird I thought they played Jumpin' Jack Flash at every concert since its release... Well, anyway, I wouldn't be too disappointed about the lack of Brown Sugar. That's just one of those songs that, to my ears, never really worked live. "Brown Sugar" never really worked live? Wow, never thought I'd hear that. Have you heard any of the performances from &#

Jagger WAS a great lyricist at one time. During the great golden era of the Stones he was excellent. He wrote some great stuff during the '60's too and some great stuff after Exile but some of it's pretty bad too. Alot of his lyrics from Voodoo Lounge on have been pretty cliched and well......just not very good. But in his prime he was one of the very best ever IMO.

I think this was just a personal list for the guy writing it. But I would agree and have stated many times before that Jagger is extremely underrated as a lyricist. The Stones often get compared to Zeppelin around here because they were both huge in the '70's but that's one area where I think the Stones were much, much better than Zeppelin.

QuoteGazza Not only that. I remember Clapton played here about six years ago and I was unable to go as I'd other things on that night. I asked a couple of people who had paid about £60 for a ticket what it was like and the response was "he didnt say a word all night". They were actually annoyed about this to the point where it was of more significance than the peformance. You g

QuoteErik_Snow Completely agree to your post, Tumbling Dice - and I think the sentence(s) I quoted are the main reason there's so many "bashers" of Clapton on this board. It's like that if the artist is over 55......a certain percentage of the audience expect to see phoney posing and pyrotechnics - and get their kicks over that shit. I presume that's the reason there&

Wow.........3 pages for this thread....unreal. Of course Clapton's not God. He's my favorite guitarist though. Period. I don't care for his tone nowadays as much as his sound in the late 60's/early 70's, especially with "Brownie" and "Blackie", his two late '50's Strats, but in a sense I actually respect what he does as much, and somet

I quite liked the '75 tour although they could be unbelieveably sloppy on that tour. The '76 tour was much weaker. The good '75 shows were still as intense as the '72/'73 era. I think the '75 tour gets a bad rap because the only show available as a pro shot video is the 7/11/75 show and it's probably the worst show of the tour. The Toronto show is a very

QuoteMathijs Assuming they did play PS, it indeed would be more logical WH was played on electrics. Mathijs Right well the reason I say that is because "Prodigal Son" was played at other shows on that tour, so I assumed it was played in Newcastle but then again, ya never know.

I don't think the songs played in '89 were all that slow. Some probably were slower than the frenetic '70's versions but I still think the Stones were playing very well in '89/'90. I think things have gone down hill since. I also figure that the Stones only use the click-track to start the song off in the correct tempo, not for the entire song.
