I love Ya Ya's.......I think it's one of the great live albums in rock history. However, I think it would have been better if they had waited and recorded it on the 1970 European tour. I said that once before on this forum and got some fairly heated responses for such heresy, but I do think it would have been better. The band was tighter, it was Mick Taylor's second tour with th

I haven't been hanging around here much lately so I apologize if this has been discussed thoroughly.......but is there any indication whether or not the Stones plan to release anymore shows in their From the Vault series?

Quotebanditpanda Happy to find this thread. In 1969 at MSG Keith hadn't found Tele's yet and I'm not sure if he had discovered open G at that time. If that is the case for the opening song of the set, Jumping Jack Flash, for which I'm not yet sure of he was using the Dan Armstrong or a Les Paul did he play in standard tuning or open E or Open G with capo at 4th? He was defi

Wolfgang's Vault has Hampton '81 listed for download and they claim it's the Dec. 19th show. Anybody know if this is true or is it the Dec. 18th show?

I reckon I'm going to the Columbus show. After hearing thousands of recordings of Stones concerts, I'm gonna be seeing my first one in person.

QuoteMathijs The story that they just made up the instrumental part on the spot is just folklore of course. The change to Dminor, the chording and especialy the end riff all are very much worked through and arranged. Mathijs I've always had that suspicion myself. The last section (less possibly there was alot of overdubbing done) had to be worked out in advance.

QuoteErik_Snow QuoteHEILOOBAAS QuoteErik_Snow I'm familiar to your thoughts, it's an interesting subject. They threw away the acoustic Sweet Virginia on the European Tour, and also the songs Keith shined on...Bitch and Bye Bye Johnny. Rocks Off was not a Taylor-solo-song in 72...they threw away that one too. There were only one song left, where Mick Taylor couldn't shine on...Sta

I remember reading one review online from a show on the '73 European tour that was pretty negative. Can't remember where it was from. I don't think any recordings from that particular show exist (that circulate anyway) but I do remember the reviewer saying Taylor was "useless as a pillar of salt", whatever that means. After listening to bootlegs from this tour for y

Quotekleermaker QuoteTumblin_Dice_07 Thanks for the response. I have a good audience recording from that show but it doesn't sound as good as it does in your video. I'm uploading it to YT right now. Will takes a couple of hours. But don't believe those posters who say I'm an excellent Stones historian! That's only irony but I like it. I only know some things from th

I haven't posted here in years. This is the first time I've even logged in in probably 4 or 5 years so I apologise if this is poor manners. I have a question for kleermaker concerning one of his youtube videos. The one titled "best songs from the '73 tour setlist with footage". What is the source for that version of YCAGWYW? Is it soundboard or audience. Sounds to

I was really hoping the rest of the Roundhouse show would be released as the audio accompaniment to the Marquee DVD but apparently it's not to be. I'll still buy the damn thing though.

Duane Allman has obviously gotten alot of mentions here, and understandably so but I think Duane, as great as he was, was just scratching the surface of his talents. I think Derek Trucks is better in alot of ways than Duane simply because Duane died so young. I think Derek took what Duane started to another place. Trucks is unbelieveable. I think he's so eclectic that sometimes people don

I've seen print that gives Bobby Whitlock the credit for the piano coda at the end of "Layla" but it is indeed Jim Gordon as others have mentioned. He was a tremendous drummer. Clapton himself says that the Carl Radle/Jim Gordon rhythm section was his favorite. I think he went on to say something like "when people say Jim Gordon was the greatest rock drummer that ever

Quotedcba GDown with Mayer and "the new kid" Jr. WDYLove with two drummers worked well too. But overall and imho I think the Stones were tighter for the London shows... Imho again MT's return brought hardly anything : last night's Rambler was going nowhere at all. I think it's odd that you would feel that way about Taylor's cameo. It's your opinion tho

I don't mind paying for it, but I want it in FLAC. Thing is, I'm in USA.....if anybody could help me out with the FLAC version, please send me an email.

Clapton played with Lennon at a show(maybe a couple of shows) in London in '69. I guess they were Plastic Ono Band shows. Not sure if that was before or after the Toronto thing.

Quoteexhpart I think it's an extra on the series 6 DVD but creator David Chase is interviewed about the music and says he could've done the whole show using only Stones,Elvis Costello and a.n.other that I can't recall. I guess they just restrained themselves. I think he said they could have had any one of three artists provide all of the music. It could have been all Rolling Sto

You can see the driver at times. Never see his face but at one point the driver waves Weaver on by if I'm not mistaken. So you see an arm waving through the truck window.

It's been a long time since I've listened to these recordings. I once listened to the entire '73 Winter tour starting with the Nicaragua Benefit (although I know it probably wasn't technically part of the tour) on through the final Sydney show in chronological order and took notes about the shows. As I remember it, the band were in good form in Hawaii. There was supposed to

Quotehbwriter that last photo there is just so classic - such an emblem of '73- beautifully trashed, glammed and wasted - I don't think that last one is even from '73. I think it's from the '72 American tour.

QuoteNaturalust Most really advanced guitar players will tell you, it's all about the right hand once you get past a certain point. Here is a tune from Monte for you to digest, might not be your cup of tea but the dude can play. He can get soft and really soulful too, the sign of a true master. peace I may not be a "really advanced guitar player"....don't know how y

Quotemarcovandereijk QuoteTumblin_Dice_07 You can trace their playing back to the three Kings (Freddie, Albert, and B.B.), Buddy Guy, and other American blues guitarists. Elmore James should be mentioned here, when it comes to being a strong influence on Peter Green: I'm sure he was an influence on Greeny, but it wasn't Green that played all those Elmore licks note for note on

Well most people consider "technique" (in respect to guitar playing) to be the actual mechanics of a guitarist's playing. Picking techniques, vibrato, fret hand technique, whatever... I'm wondering if maybe you're inquiring more about his style? So far as his playing style, I always heard similarities between Green, Mick Taylor, and Eric Clapton. They were all i

I think I actually like it less now than when I first heard it. They're at the end of a week long run of shows at the Forum and Jagger's voice is about shot. It's not as bad as the last New York show, but I think the professional mix on this has revealed how bad Jagger's "singing" was at this show. That being said, I really like alot of the '75 tour and I don
