QuoteDoxa Yes, what a tragical story. The piano or the 'second' part of "Layla" has always been one of my favourite instrumentals parts. The musical landscape is just so incredibly sad, melancholical, reflective... Always makes me moody. I never realize that is Gordon's. Now it sounds even more blues. No a classy act from Clapton if he didn't mention Gordon in his

Quotedonvis What are the three songs cut from Brussels? I was wondering that myself. He has to be referring to the 3 songs from the 1st Brussels show. They're not really cut, they just come from the 1st show on 10/17/73 and all the rest come from the 2nd show. Speaking of edits though, Mick Taylor's solo on "All Down The Line" is edited. The song is taken from the sec

QuoteRnT Open G of course ...like this...me on the tele ;-) Really good RnT. Quite impressive. As for the original question, I have a bunch of guitars and I use different tunings. Any open tunings, I usually use that particular key. I'll sometimes capo my resonator which I tune to open G up to open A. For the most part though, if I pick up a standard tuned guitar and I

Quotepeoplewitheyes ...so surely there must be decision makers from the Stones website monitoring iorr.org in order to determine what to release (ie what would attract most downloads). So... 1975 please!! Nah, the decisions have already been made and probably all the mixing and mastering has already been done. Evidence for this is the Jagger and Richards interviews on youtube that accomp

The film was ok I guess. I don't think the band played very well and alot of if seemed rather contrived. I don't care so much for Jagger's intrance on "Sympathy" but whatever. I haven't heard it in surround sound or the theater or anything else but I can't imagine that the difference would cover up all those bum notes. I mean, Keith's solo in "

QuoteBliss This is from an interview with Stanley Booth that I just posted in a thread about Gram Parsons. You can see how he elevates himself to the same status as the Stones. "Gram, Keith and I were just basically staying up playing Dorothy Norwood, Magic Sam, Link Wray, Ernest Tubb, Miss Peaches, Dorothy Love Coates, Juke Boy Bonner and having a MARVELOUS time. Quotexke38 Thanks! They are from '54, '59 and '61. The '59 is a 3 tone sunburst refin (as of '58, sunburst Strats were 3 tone, although with the earlier versions the red was photo-reactive and faded quickly, so many '58s and '59s look like 2 tone sunbursts). So cool. Love to be able to play a '54. Just out of curiousity, how would you characterize t

Quotetomk And on the '76 tour they played it in the key of G. Yeah that's true and I always found it really odd how they were always changing the key of this song. Were they just never happy with it or what? The studio version I think (if I recall correctly) is in E, the live version in '75 was in B with Keith playing in open G capoed at the 4th fret. The '76 version was

Quotexke38 Trio of pre-CBS Strats Awesome man. I love those maple neck '50's Strats. I'm not crazy about rosewood fretboards on Fenders. I don't mind it on Gibsons or other guitars, but on Fender's I just much prefer the look of a maple neck. What years are those from? One of those sunburst Strats looks like it might be closer to a 3 tone sunburst.

QuoteMathijs 2. The first pics I have are from tune ups on the '75 tour, but according to Randall Smith, founder of Boogie, he first delivered a couple of MK1's to the rehearsals in Rotterdam '75. I personally believe the guitar sound of Slave is a Boogie. First public outting of a Boogie with the Stones is March 3/4, 1977, El Mocambo. Smith was asked to supply 8 Boogie MK1'

Yeah I think Tony comes across as being more articulate and comfortable in front of the camera than I would have guessed considering the comments from Keith and Marianne about him over the years. Lends some credibility to his book in my opinion, although I do think some of the dialogue is a bit questionable. Anyway, I remember reading this thread a couple years ago and being quite surprised t

Sheww.......here we go again with the "Skynyrd blew the Stones off the stage at Knebworth" business.... Getting "blown offstage" is not meant literally. Skynyrd didn't come out with a giant fan or TNT or whatever while the Stones were onstage and actually send them flying off the stage. If that happened, it would be a fact. But it's a figurative statement. There

QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteWeLoveYou Quotepartnerincrime I do prefer 69 tour most of all: a fabolous jagger, great guitars and a great rhythmn section. I think this period is the best due to the great production work and influence of jimmy miller: the stones never have had that groove and attitude like they had in those days. the band and miller himself were reaching their peak. what had follow

I noticed that Jagger and Richards filmed their interviews about the Hampton show in late 2011 (Jagger's in August and Keith's in September). Looks like all these bootleg series releases were already set before we even heard about them. I'm betting that Jagger and Richards did one big interview each in Fall of 2011 with sections focusing on each of the 6 releases and as they come

QuoteNoCode0680 Well, they rarely (or at least in the older days) play a song exactly the same twice. Jumping Jack Flash is a good example, seems like it's in a different tuning or key on every single version. So maybe they played it different BECAUSE they played it the other way in the other show. A different tuning or key on every single version? They've experimented with the

QuoteMrMonte question: I've seen a couple references to "six" releases. Is that official? I don't recall seeing that anywhere. MrMonte yes it's official. When they released the 1st Bootleg Series show (Brussels), they announced that there would be 6 of them, released over the course of the next year. We'll probably get one roughly every couple months.

Not really familiar with Lou Reed's stuff to be honest. Most Gibsons have humbucking pickups. Most Fender's have single coil pickups. That accounts for some of the differences in tone. I personally prefer Fender's but it's for a variety of reasons. I play blues and blues-based rock mainly, and the playability and functionality of a Stratocaster is what I need. But I do o

Fender's generally have a more trebly, sharp tone. Gibson's generally have a fatter, more rounded tone. This is not a rule by any means. Alot of it depends on the amp used and especially, the player. For instance, the really cleanly picked intro to Lynyrd Skynyrd's "I Know A Little"....most people would assume that was played on a Fender. I've read multiple
