I like Blondie, but this is kinda misleading advertising. Blondie was a member of the Beach Boys. Everybody knows his relationship to the Stones. He never was a member with the Byrds, nor did he play with "The Byrds." He played with a group that included former Byrds, but no group without Roger McGuinn is or was "The Byrds." The Band is tricker, but I guess he

I think the way forward would be the way backward. If they went back to a few appearances as a blues band, where they started, I think it would revive them, get them used to playing together with music they enjoyed, and get them working again. Something like that happened in the '90's when Clapton returned to blues music and got his creative juices (and chops) revived. There's n

This is exactly what's been wrong with the Stones live shows for the past 20 years - and maybe 30 years. It became about the stage and the show as much as about the music. Thanks for illustrating the point by this question.

Better stop? Don't stop! Seriously, I saw the recent Macca show in Toronto, and though I could have done without the Wings stuff, he was WAY better than 6 years ago. Instead of looking like a museum-piece, playing only what he thought the audience wanted, he was a working musician, playing some deep catalog songs and enjoying himself. The second 1/2 (and it was almost 3 hours) was like

I have Mixed Emotions about this question. Something old (Tell Me) Something new (PMS or Love is Strong -- which qualifies as "new" with this band) Something borrowed (Mannish Boy) Something blue (Memory Motel/Fool to Cry/Melody)

I liked LIS a lot. Album version was better than live, though. I think the Stones made a mistake in not playing LIS, Mixed Emotions, and other songs from the reunion years more on the last few tours -- not just because I got tired of many of the warhorses, but because they were good songs that deserve attention and would help showcase that they weren't just the nostalgia act they became

I've heard two other groups do Chuck Berry covers. Believe it or not, the best Chuck Berry guitarist may have been Carl Wilson. The Beach Boys stole (or if you prefer, borrowed) many Chuck Berry riffs and even entire songs. Rock and Roll Music, I admit totally sucked. But they actually played a very mean Johnny B. Goode live in the early '70s. Bruce and the E Street band also p

One of my favorite tracks. Sticks in my head for days, too. Angie is the worst abomination ever recorded by the Stones, in my humble opinion. Indeed, it may be the worst abomination ever recorded by anyone other than Barry Manilow.

I actually was thinking about this today when I heard a song on the radio I thought would be perfect -- "Tell Me." If Mick came out on stage and sang "I want you back again," the old folks would say WTF and start screaming. And he'd have everybody eating out of his hand with "You've got to tell me you're coming back to me." If I remember right, it&#

My personal opinion? Some Girls was the last Stones album that mattered -- that really grabbed everyone's attention and seeped through, as an album, to the popular culture. The last Stones album that REALLY MATTERED? That's more difficult. Sticky Fingers maybe. Or maybe all the way back to Let it Bleed. The power of Let it Bleed when it came out, after Woodstock, got to people i

I was at both nights. Mick and Fergie did GS proud, at least in person. It was one of the best versions I've seen in years. I think the opening guitar, by the way, was played by Bono, with Edge adding accents. I was walking out of Penn Station, past the north end of the Garden, about 3:30 on Friday when I saw a bunch of people gathered by a driveway. I looked to my right, and saw Mick

I saw HTW in 1975. It worked great as an opener. The show opened with a metallic flower or something opening up, with the Stones inside. They started with a recording of Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man. The opening notes of HTW cut through the Chicago Stadium like a knife. The contrast with the Copland was very effective.

Quotemr edward I'd choose a new album over a tour nowadays. I don't care for the Vegas style tours, tired warhorses and butchered 'rarities' anymore. I'm still waiting on that last masterpiece. Chances are slim, I know... agree with this %100.. Wow. I agree. But what does that say about the Stones, if their rabid fans (who read this board) feel this way now.

I've seen Mick quoted over the years saying he saw no reason they couldn't keep playing into their 70's the way Muddy Waters and other blues greats did. Frankly, I'd much rather see them get out on their stools and play than I would another "big" tour with a stage show.

Please, while I like Blondie, and saw him with the Beach Boys (where he was a member), don't say he was with the Byrds. Here's the history of the Byrds, from Roger McGuinn's website: Here's Wikipedia: No Byrds fan considers the post-1973 tribute bands fronted by Michael Clarke or Gene Clark to be anything resembling the Byrds, let alone that anyone who played in

I have 2 pair of tickets at the United Center for Monday, January 23. I'd trade one or both pairs for 2-4 seats this Saturday at Soldier Field. My seats at the UC are in 110, row 8, and 308, row 1. Please post what you have if you are interested. I work in downtown Chicago and could trade Friday or Saturday. Thanks.
