I finally got to see Wilco live after years of enjoying their music and seeing the as the most worthy successors of such grand figures of rock as Dylan,The Stones,The Beatles, Neil Young etc. I had to travel to The Netherlands(Tilburg) in order to get this wonderful opportunity and it was worth every penny. These guys might be putting the best rock show out there. It dawned on me several times th

The thing is you can still emotionally connect with Springsteen's new tracks such as The Last Carnival, Long way home,The Last to die,My city of Ruins etc. These are all songs performed in a very heartfelt matter, tackling some serious subjects that people can easily relate to.There are some great musical ideas among the stones' most recent output but for the most of the time the songs a

To be fair, Bruce has been constistent throughout his 38 years spanning career as an recording artist which cannot be said about The Rolling Stones despite their early run of albums being in so many ways unmatched. However Bruce is still able to release an album almost on par with his best work which is as brilliant as anything anyone else has ever put on tape. The Stones' last 6 or so albums

QuoteGreen Lady QuoteThe GR In 1982 at Wembley it was wild down the front. At Twickenham in 2006...as soon as you put seats in people want to sit down...all the way through the show. At Twickenham in 2006 (actually my first Stones show) I had a seat way up in the nosebleeds - and what hit me was that the moment the first notes of JJF rang out, the whole section (me too) was instantly on its fe

Everything revolving The Stones at this point seems to be rather vague. We can only speculate whether they do want to tour or not.It seems kinda obvious that Mick and Ronnie are eager to perform whereas Keith doesn't seem to be healthy enough to withstand the ordeals of touring.Anyway, all of this is still in the realm of speculation.I might be completely wrong.Much has been said about Keith&

Songs like And you and I and Close to the edge are anything but sterile.Their lyrics might be too vague to do so, but their music can truly resonate with people.

Judging by some comments here you'd think Zeppelin could hardly hold their instruments let alone play them. The fact is that Led Zepplin is not that far from The Stones in terms of the quality of their output. They just lack The Stones' charisma and sexiness. They took themselves too seriously at times but the work they left behind is truly timeless and awe inspiring.I'd also argue th

Sleepy city, if you can't name any songs by The Allman Brothers band, you should definitely get some of their records.I recommend compilation Beginning comprising of their first two records and Live at Fillmore East.If you love The Stones you'll be blown away by these.

You are right about Elvis, Buddy Holly and the rest of fifties legends but i tended to focus on rock era(as opposed to fifties rock 'n' roll and r&b) which in my opinion started in the sixties. There were also some great inspiring blues artists that came up with the essence of what would become rock music.Skip James and Robert Johnson are just as bit as relevant if not more than any

Well today's relavant indie rock acts are mostly inspired by joy Division and Bruce Springsteen among others, so thes acts should be ranked vey high in terms of influence and legacy.Black Sabbath deserves to be mentioned as well since they took hard rock in completely different direction which spawned thousands of different acts. The most influental acts in my opinion: The Beatles Bob

Quotemrgrowl791 Quotekees Whether you like them or not, both Springsteen and U2 also deserve to be mentioned as competitors for the other bands mentioned here. I'd put The Allman Bros. ahead of Bruce and U2. In terms of playing and sheer band chemistry, the original Allman brothers band line up has no peers. However,I think Bruce and the E street band have a greater body of work and they

Don;t get all the hate heaped on Phil.Sure his solo work was mostly crap but the guy did amazing things behind the drums and was also responsible for some fine music produced by Genesis. He's alright in my book

Springsteen is certainly just as great as The Beatles or The Stones, maybe slightly less inventive due to him emerging on the scene following these bands' peaks during which they completely transformed rock along with some other influental acts such as Bob Dylan, The Who, The Doors,Hendrix, The Allman Brothers etc.Springsteen couldn't invent anything considerably new but he successfully

Van Halen is a brilliant guitar player with great sound and playing technic. He was perfect within confines of a rock song.He hardly ever played an unecessesary note in VH's heyday.Unfortunately, Van Halen as a band seriously lacked in the sonwriting department. They had sublime riffs to work with but they didn't have a songwriting genius so to speak, who could elevate them to a whole dif

I\ve just checked out these Dirty Work outtakes for the very first time and I can't help wondering why they, even in their crude unfinished forms, sound so superior to what was eventually released. What were they thinking?Dirty Work has a couple of good tracks but it's by far their worst record, mostly due to Jagger barking over the instrumental tracks.

I think both are great and original guitar players. However in their heyday Mick was a better guitar player simply due to his killer sound and seamless soloing. Not that Ronnie was a slouch but he has always been graced with a more grittier and earthly sound whereas Taylor was simply soaring to heavens when soloing.I think that Ronnie might be a better guitar player nowadays because Mick seems to h

He sounds and looks great. The only issue that I have with his current vocal delivery is that he comes dangerously close to sounding like a parody of himself at times but I guess that is normal given his age and vocal range. The same could be said for McCartney but they are still among the best entertainers in the world.

For a long time I thought that rock was dead based on what I was able to hear on the radio and tv, but once I embarked on the search for less exposed and more critically acclaimed acts I discovered several bands that are no worse than some of the most renowned acts of the sixties and seventies. I think that Wilco, The National and Arcade Fire are almost as good as The Stones. And truth to be told,
