No one mentioned this, but I've always felt that Sweet Black Angel had a bit of a reggae feel. Anyone agree?

It doesn't bother me. And, of course, if ONE TIME Mick forgets the C'mon and Keith goes to the chorus while Ronnie goes to the bridge....there would be a 5 page thread on this board about it. Right?

Face it: the complainers complain because they can. Anyone with an internet connection can know the setlist before Mick's chauffeur steps on the gas to leave the venue. Bootlegs exist within a week of the event. In 1978, despite the fact that the Some Girls shows were virtually identical from town to town, no more than 100 people probably knew that the setlist from Memphis, TN differed from

Excellent post. Agree with virtually everything you said EXCEPT "...Charlie is no Alex Van Halen". HUH? Are you sure that's not the other way around? Charlie Watts has forgotten more than every other drummer on the planet knows about being a drummer in a rock n roll band.

It's not all that unusual for artists to perform songs in advance of their official release. Springsteen has done this often during his career. Off the top of my head I remember "Sherry Darling" from the Darkness (1978) tour which predated the official release (1980) on "The River" album.

Well said, bv. This should be an automatic post to all setlist whines.

Bianca, I'm with you. You guys didn't comprehend a word she wrote. Basically, (correct me if I'm wrong Bianca), she is saying that ABB is strong enough to potentially be thought of as one of the Stones greatest works at some point in the future. She is NOT comparing EOMS to ABB in September 2005. And I'm in agreement that there is an intangible undercurrent running through ABB

EOMS definitely is an acquired taste. It doesn't strike you as classic on first listen. But I think you really have to listen to it in it's entirety to fully appreciate it. The true genius of EOMS is that the Stones gave us rock n roll, country, blues, soul, gospel, reggae in 65 minutes of music and, despite all the different genres, you come away feeling a common groove that threads it

You can tell that they're different takes by the very end. On Stripped, Mick says "I felt like a hillbilly for a minute." On Companion, he says something like, "Well, alright." For what it's worth.

I agree that it's a great version of Sway. Also, regarding Mick's vocals, it's not that he necessarily sings off key. That would be a glaring mistake. Rather, I think that he changes the melody slightly and it comes off sounding a little flat. But that's nothing new. It's the same thing he does with Satisfaction and the same he does with Rocks Off. He doesn't sing th

581. Re: Sway
Ok, let me get this straight. The Rolling Stones (aka The World's Greatest Rock n Roll Band, formed 1962, and the sole reason for the existence of this web site) perfom a song (Sway), which tops the wish list for songs requested on the 2005-06 tour, and a song which they haven't performed since they left the studio 34 years ago. Then, less than 24 hours after the performance of this son

I personally thought RJ was stronger live than on the CD.

Markdog, I did something similar in anticipation of going to see the Giant Stadium show. I have about 600 Stones songs in my iPod. (more than half are boots). So, I excluded the boots and put my entire studio version collection (about 240 songs) on shuffle. You would be amazed at how well the ABB songs hold up. Also, it's very cool to hear (for example) SSMC sandwiched between Gimme Shelter

As much as I love SSMC (it might be my favorite ABB track), I don't think it would work live because Mick sings the repeating "She Saw Me Coming" over the verses in the studio version. Blondie or Bernard might be able to step in but I don't think it would work.

Does anyone think it's ironic that there is a popular thread on this board right now on which someone referred to the Stones as a "Vegas act" because of the similarity of the set list from night to night, while on this thread someone is amazed that one warhorse is not played?

Reverend and Turd make good points, but allow me to play devil's advocate here. I've followed the setlists and reviews and I've seen one show so far (Giants Stadium). What if real message in the name of the new CD is that the boys are going out with a bang. This is it. The focus of this tour is to deliver their most popular songs with as much energy and vitality possible. Based on

Gazza, you may be right. The credits in Undercover are not song-specific. However, to my ears, the female voice on Too Rude sounds very much like Patti. Anyone else know for certain?

Too Rude = Keith's duet w/ Mrs. Springsteen.

Keith's buzzsaw chords after the harmonica intro of Midnight Rambler. Love that.

In 78, after LIR, ADTL, HTW and Starf***er (what a start!), they played 7 CONSECUTIVE songs from Some Girls.

I stand corrected Gazza. Still a great line, though.

My vote is "I see love, I see misery...jamming side by side on a stage" from BOMH. That line captures the essence of the blues, IMO.

This may be a stretch, but is it possible that KR is speaking to Mick or to the Stones in general. If you accept this premise, the lyrics take on a more metaphorical quality (for example, "bare your breasts" could be interpreted to just mean "let down your guard"). Give it a listen with this in mind.

The stadium area looks full to me. If you're referring to the field, bear in mind that baseball season is in full swing (pardon the pun) and the Red Sox are playing on the road. I'm sure it was intentional that no seats were set up in the infield area.

I just emailed the fakers. There's a link on their website to contact them via email. Ratings must be really hard to come by in Toronto. Don't you just love how the amateur DJ cleverly leads us to believe it's live from Phoenix.

599. HTW
I've seen the Stones a number of times and I have dozens of boots dating from 1973 to 2003. While "Honky Tonk Women" is always a crowd pleaser and a show highlight, I don't think the boys have ever been able to duplicate the magical raw sound that they laid down in those 3-4 minutes in the studio. They really caught lightning in a bottle when they recorded that, in my opinion.

I'm surprised no one mentioned "Wanna Hold You". I've always been partial to this one. Not a masterpiece, but a cool pop melody in my opinion.
