I'd pass on Slippin' Away and Streets Of Love, and no recording of the Echoplex Love In Vain has surfaced so far. Perhaps the show was filmed for future release, though? Sway: only played three times with MT. I think his solo on the Chicago version is the best of the bunch. CYHMK: Glastonbury is proshot, and to me the best version they did with him anyway. Lots of people prefer t

As with most people, I guess, my interest in talking about the Stones or anything else I'm a fan of waxes and wanes over time. In my case this has nothing to do with the tour cycle, because I'm not really into the current band and don't go to the shows - it's more that, like Green Lady, I often find that I don't have much to say, haven't the time or energy to say it,

FWIW, I have never heard the word 'cock' used either as a term of endearment or as a reference to cockneys (and Brian Jones wasn't a cockney anyway). So I don't buy either explanation, and like Naturalust says neither makes sense in context.

I've got a little Fender Ramparte in my living room. It's basically a more aesthetically pleasing Blues Junior with no EQ and simplified circuitry (thus a good deal cheaper - Fender make no money on their pawn shop series). If you can find one, try it. You'll probably dig it - definitely in the classic tweed ballpark tonally.

QuoteDandelionPowdermanThe dynamic MR on LIB, with superior harp playing, percussion and its mood might be just as creative per se - even though it's not my favourite version. Indeed it is, and of course creativity and improvisation are not the same thing at all. I prefer the live versions on the strength of Taylor's input and the band's sound as a whole, but the musical vision i

Quotegotdablouse Not sure if this has been posted here, from the Keith Mojo interview : Looks like he hasn't forgotten his "three guitar approach" comments that generated a lot of excitement : "I wanted to see if it could blossom into something else, like a three-guitar band. I realised it was just a hope, an idea. The Stones are a two-guitar band, and I know that, really.

Quotekleermaker The best ones are to be found on Ya Ya's, Baltimore and Altamont (69 tour) and a couple from the 1970 tour (Essen and some others that I don't know by heart. All other versions are crap and can be put aside. +1. I think the 1975 version with Clapton on lead guitar deserves a listen for the novelty value, perhaps not for the actual playing.

QuoteHMSMick Taylor's effect on the Stones is heavily over-rated. He is just the guy who almost by coincidence was hanging around when Keith and Mick reached their creative peak as a songwriting team. The songwriting is not the point with MT: no-one denies it was Mick and Keith's zenith creatively. The point is MT's musicianship, the way he embellished their output during his ten

Couple of thoughts on this: 1) For whatever reason, Taylor generally doesn't soundcheck prior to his solo shows. He's also traditionally used a lot of rented amps when playing with his own band. 2) In his glory days, MT had one of the best and most distinctive Les Paul tones around. However, it was basically dependent on a VT40 on the edge of meltdown, and that's just far too

A few shows in Russia in the context of a European tour, or just a few shows in Russia period? I can't really see them playing anywhere other than Moscow and Petersburg (although it would be great if they did). There would likely be political issues standing in the way of another Red Square concert, and if not Red Square I'm not sure where else in Moscow they would play.

QuoteOllyI recommend listening to more recent live performances by the Stones. You may discover, as I did, that the band peaked as a live act decades later than many would have you believe. Like others, I have, and found them wanting. Not necessarily bad, just nowhere near as good as the classic performances of the early 70s.

Excuse me? It's against IORR policy to discuss individuals, except if you want to write something positive about them? Despite them all being public individuals and artists whose work is by its very nature open for critical discussion?

Quotebv Some people have their mission in life to dislike any person the Stones might add to their lineup. Jealousy or besserwissen may be. Some say they play the guitar better than Keith Richards too... Er, no, they just don't like his musical contributions. Jealousy? Really?
