QuoteDeltics According to the ticket, the show started at 2.30 PM and the review for the 1965 show indicated that it ran for three and half hours, I imagine that the 1964 concert would have been much the same. I missed this earlier. If the show started at 2.30pm and ran for three and a half hours, then it finished at 6.00pm. There's pretty much no way that they could empty the hall o

A very appropriate dig by the great Steve Bell on the lamentable way The Stones (and it turned out later U2 and many many others) avoid paying tax). (And if anyone can tell me why it does not show up as an image in the way the first posting here does, I'd be more than grateful).

QuoteDeltics Not having had the good fortune of attending the event myself (I was eight years old at the time!), I've had to rely on some research. It seems unlikely that there were two shows and that the two halves were either side of an interval. Judging by this report, the concert was heavily over-subscribed. An outstanding post. Thanks. Although I was there in '64 and &

QuoteCristiano Radtke I really don't think mr. Maurice would call the Stones or any other band "insignificant", and when I say this I mean he would never dare to say that to any of the bands that played the NME Poll concert. But in the context (let's not forget it was a letter addressed to John Lennon) what it seems to me is that he wanted to say to the Beatles (especially

Quoteswiss Hmmm...I'm now thinking this thread should be chucked into the 52-page-long Beatles Vs Stones cacophony. That would be a very bad move IMHO. Folk who, quite reasonably, want to stay away from silly Beatles vs Stones arguments would then miss this quite remarkable find.

Given that Shirley (& Charlie) have had a long interest in horses there's a jolly good chance that they will be there. I'd guess that the biggest factors would be security (not the badly thought out mania/hysteria we have here at the moment, but the general issue of mega-stars in public places) and the possible impact on preparations for the next day's show.

A pal of mine once booked Jimi Hendrix for a student dance thing, and met him (obviously). Jimi met all of the Stones. So, there's my first claim. I got John Lennon to sign something, and he knew all of them. There's another. (Sherry Daly once emailed me, does that count?)

Quoterumple21 Fascinating story behind the tongue art - So it was Ernie Cefalu who designed the 'pin-tongue' and he claims that predated the joe pasche original 'Sticky Fingers' version. The SF version was soon modified by an unknown artist. True of untrue? Sadly, for me at least, we only see the start of the article. The rest is behind Rupert's paywall.

Quotebelld Sunday Times today has an article disputing MJs account of inspiration for the Tongue Logo. They report claim by American artist Sid Maurer now 88 years old that he introduced Brian J to one of his paintings and that inspired the logo. Will a clever person copy the article here please. Also mentions new book - Sympathy for the Devil-The Birth of the Rolling Stones and the Death of Br

Maybe the rest of the book is more accurate and in the absence of anything else in book shops it's probably the best option but what i have waffled on about demonstrates that for that particular BBC session at least and therefore quite probably all the BBC sessions l

I think that ROCKMAN has got it wrong there. The book he points to is not, as the original poster says, "displaying all the words and comments from MJ between the songs captured live" It's good, but it's nothing more than a trawl through cuttings files picking up a load of quotes. I did read ages ago about someone doing a book of the actual words between songs, but ha

Quoteash Captain Corella - I cannot tell you the exact errors. I bought Martin's first edition of the book and while a brave attempt, it did not appear to be entirely accurate and i had read better work on the same subject on Aeppli and Nico's sites as i mentioned. I saw the newest edition in a book shop (not something you see everyday - a book shop that is) and i looked at it with a

Frontier Touring (the promoters) have created a dedicated site for Hanging Rock. For information on all our concerts at Victoria's Hanging Rock, including tips on transport and accommodation as well as things to do while in the Macedon Ranges, head to our brand new web site: www.hangingrockconcerts.com A bit repetitive in places, and they omit the need for a torch on the way back to a

I've only flicked through it in the shops but found quite a few errors. It's not a bad try but to be honest Nico's site and Felix Aeppli's site are much better overall. As you probably know,

Love the reference to "Alex Corker's" band! I wonder if the original in the Daily Mail (for this is some sort of copy) had the same goof? It should of course be... Alexis Korner. (And, Charlie is still good friends with Andy Hoogenboom - after all these years).
