QuoteChicagoCalling Andy showed me many of the sketches, etc. that he made of the Stones members when they were recording Bridges From Babylon. He was a helleva an artist and a helleva nice guy. RIP Andy. I have read an account (not written by Andy, he was too busy sketching) of the week that Andy spent with The Stones when he made those sketches. One thing that comes across is how darned

I'm sad to report the sudden and unexpected death of Andy Hoogenboom. Andy was one of the early Blues musicians in the orbit of Cyril Davis and Alexis Korner. He introduced Shirley to Charlie Watts and was Best Man at their (secret) wedding, and had been good friends ever since.

QuoteAnitapal82 I watched it today I bought it in Melbourne Australia. It's not Essential. The highlight is some silent live footage on stage in Sydney with many great close ups of the band for about 2 minutes with the backing of " I'm moving on" live from the Decembers children album ( I think ). With some footage of the stones at a party , And some press conference footage.

Quoteshattered Don't laugh, where can I get Stone Alone? The absolute best way to get hold of a book that's out of print is.. (there are also .co.uk and probably others, but it's fully worldwide anyway) Think of it as almost every second hand bookstore in the world putting information about their best books online in a searchable format. QuoteCristiano Radtke Sydney 1965, according to this video: Well spotted! The funniest thing about this video is to do with the soundtrack. Obviously the actual recording of what was being played wasn't available, so someone has tried to synch the vinyl version with the on-screen actions. Done quite well actually. BUT... the live version is much much faster than the offici

QuoteTooTough QuoteCaptainCorella Quotetumblingdice Didn't Bill say once that they sometimes signed for each other back then? I may be wrong but think I read that somewhere. I can positively confirm that. I think that refers to the signing of the Promotional Album 1969. Sorry. I don't know what you mean. Explicitly then, one band member told me face to face, that this is wha

QuoteGreen Lady There's a story out there somewhere of George Harrison being asked to sign something and producing imitation signatures for all four Beatles because that's what they always used to do. That's definitely true. But it didn't take long for the process to be moved into the hands of Neil Aspinall (Nell).

Jozo, Whatever the outcome, the stuff you have got there is really nice. There's very little early Fan Club stuff in circulation. As for the autographs, if you're thinking of selling them, then Sotheby's or Christies will look at them and value them. Last time I checked they did that for free, but of course that may have changed. Bill Wyman is always interested in early

Quoteash Party organising friend of friend was at a party and the parties going on in this big marquee with surrounding tents and it's pissing down. So said friend of friend has to go between the marquee/tents to hold the canvas and guide the rain down the sides so it doesn't build up and leak in the marquee/tent. So he's holding up this canvas for half an hour guiding the rain aw

Quote1969Fan Later the same day, I was in the living room where all their equipment was set up, reading when a guy dressed in corduroy pants, button down collar oxford cloth shirt, and loafers walked in and said hello. He was British...there were a lot of British people there. He was not tall enough to be a Rolling Stone. I was a fan and the Stones were bigger than life. We started talking ab

QuoteSilver Dagger Remembering Brian today (July 3) - the greatest Rolling Stone. Please post your favourite Brian song. Here's mine. A truly historic and unique moment in the history of UK pop music - the only time a blues song ever reached number 1 in the UK. And that's something about which they should, rightly, be very very proud!

Quoteherecomesrichard A mate is doing some research into the de Montfort Hall, Leicester. Bill Wyman has reportedly said it's got some of the best acoustics in Britain. I'm trying to verify if and when Bill might have said this. Can anyone help? I reckon that if your mate goes to billwyman.com and uses the email address there, then he stands a good chance of getting a response from

Quoteswimtothemoon Maybe I'm missing somthing with the complaint. My understanding is the plaque is at the Dartford rail platform. This was designed to mark the spot Mick and Keith meet again after many years as an interesting point of interest. What you are missing is the fact that the original plaque claimed that they FORMED The Rolling Stones. Without question it was an important

QuoteNaturalust Yes thanks in part to your efforts Captain! The councilman mentions your letter in the interview. That must feel good. Seems the whole thing will be corrected by changing one word. "went of to form" will likely be changed to "went on to join". All sounds reasonable to me but Bill's still going to be miffed that Brian didn't get a mention. Hey,

Calling with sssoul, calling with sssoul ........ Thanks Paul, but there's already a thread about the outcome of Bill's disgust and the interview on BBC 5Live that also includes the local Council Leader - Mr Kite.

Quotemitchrambler has anyone ever read or skimmed thru R.GARY PATTERSON ROCK N ROLL LEGENDS MYTHS AND CURSES? ITS A GREAT READ IN MY OPINION AND ONE CHAPTER IS DEDICTAED TO ALTAMONT Never heard of it. But if it's as "interesting" as another book of his that I do have - The Great Beatle Death Clues - then I'll not seek too hard to fill that gap in my collection. PS. Th

Quoteovalvox As hard as Mick and Keith try they just can't change history. Read Keith's life. Brian Jones formed the Rolling Stones with Stu his first recruit. He lead the Rolling Stones until he sliced his own throat by hiring Oldham. He chose the songs they played. He is on record by multiple reliable sources as being the better guitar player at the formation of the Stones. Sorry Math

When the intent to put up a plaque was first publicised I wrote to Mr Jeremy Kite (Council Leader) as follows: Wow, that is indeed very cool. QuoteGreen Lady The plaque was put up by Dartford Borough Council, who understandably would like their two local lads to get as much kudos as possible. Doubt if any actual Rolling Stones were consulted about its wording or accuracy. Of course Brian and Stu formed the band - and Brian was the early leader simply because it was his idea in the first place. A very familiar scenario: the guy w

QuoteTurner68 QuoteCaptainCorella Going back to the original point in Bill Wyman's interview. Dartford have put up an incorrect plaque. It's as wrong to deny that the Glimmer Twins were, and are, responsible for the astounding success of the Rolling Stones, as it is to claim that they "FORMED" the band. That's what Bill Wyman is peeved about. And rightly so.
