Quotebelld Sunday Times today has an article disputing MJs account of inspiration for the Tongue Logo. They report claim by American artist Sid Maurer now 88 years old that he introduced Brian J to one of his paintings and that inspired the logo. Will a clever person copy the article here please. Also mentions new book - Sympathy for the Devil-The Birth of the Rolling Stones and the Death of Br

Quoteash I applaud Martin's effort in writing such a big and difficult to write book and i did enjoy the first edition. Maybe the rest of the book is more accurate and in the absence of anything else in book shops it's probably the best option but what i have waffled on about demonstrates that for that particular BBC session at least and therefore quite probably all the BBC sessions l

I think that ROCKMAN has got it wrong there. The book he points to is not, as the original poster says, "displaying all the words and comments from MJ between the songs captured live" It's good, but it's nothing more than a trawl through cuttings files picking up a load of quotes. I did read ages ago about someone doing a book of the actual words between songs, but ha

Quoteash Captain Corella - I cannot tell you the exact errors. I bought Martin's first edition of the book and while a brave attempt, it did not appear to be entirely accurate and i had read better work on the same subject on Aeppli and Nico's sites as i mentioned. I saw the newest edition in a book shop (not something you see everyday - a book shop that is) and i looked at it with a

Frontier Touring (the promoters) have created a dedicated site for Hanging Rock. For information on all our concerts at Victoria's Hanging Rock, including tips on transport and accommodation as well as things to do while in the Macedon Ranges, head to our brand new web site: www.hangingrockconcerts.com A bit repetitive in places, and they omit the need for a torch on the way back to a

Quoteash QuoteIrix Quoteash It's a shame that ABKCO haven't commissioned someone (i nominate me) to write a recording sessions book. What's with this one? I've only flicked through it in the shops but found quite a few errors. It's not a bad try but to be honest Nico's site and Felix Aeppli's site are much better overall. As you probably know,

If you define "success" by how high your solo singles have got in the UK charts, then Wyman's the Winner. Si Si Je Suis Un Rock Star outperformed any other solo single by any other Rolling Stone. (I

QuoteBILLPERKS THE ALBUM CAME OUT THE TUESDAY PRIOR TO THURSDAYS SHOW. BOUGHT 3 COPIES AT THE SHORE MALL, YO Well, that's totally at odds with my very clear recollections. I was in Philly at the time (no co-incidence) and had outstanding sources as to the actual release date and I am certain that the new album wasn't LEGALLY released until the morning after the opening night. QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteBroomWagon Someone should post a link of this "Around and Around" compilation. I once had a German cassette that I really enjoyed of RS music. Perhaps this one. It's a beauty indeed. This album is truly fantastic. I remember buying it in the UK when I chanced upon it (then brand new import) in a record shop and worrying for ages if I

QuoteAquamarine I often wonder which, of all the thousands and thousands of pictures taken of them, the band themselves value. For instance, if I were Keith, I'd treasure that pic with Hooker. I have good reason to believe that this is one of Bill's favourite photo's.

The rights to the songs are (were?) with ABKCO. None of us know if ABKCO have permitted these releases, or not.

Love the reference to "Alex Corker's" band! I wonder if the original in the Daily Mail (for this is some sort of copy) had the same goof? It should of course be... Alexis Korner. (And, Charlie is still good friends with Andy Hoogenboom - after all these years).

QuoteHappy Jack So what sparked the mods v rockers fights? I have never really been clear why these occurred beside a difference of opinion regarding music and style. I understand that the mods were based more in cities, especialy London, while the Rockers came from the countryside. I also wonder how prevelant were these fights and were they really as large as depicted in the film Quadrophenia?

QuoteBig Al they wore parka jackets and rode mopeds. Any Mod riding a "moped" would have been laughed off the road and scorned in the clubs. Mods rode scooters. Not the same. Rockers (the binary opposite to Mods) rode Motor bikes. This is a moped This is a scooter )

QuoteHappy Jack I've been listening to a box set called "The In Crowd" that is a loose playlist of tracks that English Mods in the 60s were listening to at clubs like the Marquee. Its an excellent compilation and worth a Stones fans money considering it contains many of the original versions of Stones covers (Harlem Shuffle, Hitch Hike, Can I get A Witness, Time is On My Side, etc)

QuoteRockman Proceeds from the limited edition 950 copies only book STU compiled by Will Nash went to furthering Ian Stewart's sons university education ..... That's one book that I'd dearly love to have been able to afford. I'm certain that a trade edition would sell enough copies to do more than put Stu's sons through university!

QuoteStoneage And then Bill's son marrying Mandy's mother (I think). You think wrong, fortunately. There were many (quite funny) observations about the tangled relationships (eg Bill's son would have been his step-father-in-law, and Mandy would have been Stephen Wyman's mother-in-law and step-daughter). But they did not marry.

Someone posted the wrong Adam Ant video link! This performance, lipsynched of course, on Top Of The Pops was one of the most sentational performances ever on that sadly missed show... He pretty much took over the entire studio with his sub-stages. As a POP performance, it would be hard to beat. But, the best one that may appeal more to regular people here, is this performance on S

QuoteSomeTorontoGirl Quotekait Oh, yes! THIS is what I would love to see in concert! I hugely agree with you. 'Shine a Light' should have been about this sort of music in a small venue, with a crowd of blues appreciating fans - and not a stadium show in a theatre with paid floozies at the front, sycophantic luvvies behind and a few lucky real fans around the edge!

I could have sworn that I'd read somewhere that the studio was in the basement (which makes more sense actually). So although Bill is obviously right about the address in Denmark Street, is he right about that. Perhaps PHELGE (come in Phelge, your fans need you) can remember as he has an especial bond with Denmark St.

In this thread I've several times posted that the best route from the centre of Melbourne to Hanging Rock is on the Calder Highway and that (despite what Google may offer) going past Melbourne Airport and through Sunbury is not a good idea unless you are a Cricket Tragic.
