QuoteBeforeTheyMakeMeRun QuoteTeddyB1018 QuoteBlueranger What is this? Public domain releases? Looks like. Some of the photos would appear to break copyright through. As would the songs... The rights to the songs are (were?) with ABKCO. None of us know if ABKCO have permitted these releases, or not.

Love the reference to "Alex Corker's" band! I wonder if the original in the Daily Mail (for this is some sort of copy) had the same goof? It should of course be... Alexis Korner. (And, Charlie is still good friends with Andy Hoogenboom - after all these years).

QuoteHappy Jack So what sparked the mods v rockers fights? I have never really been clear why these occurred beside a difference of opinion regarding music and style. I understand that the mods were based more in cities, especialy London, while the Rockers came from the countryside. I also wonder how prevelant were these fights and were they really as large as depicted in the film Quadrophenia?

QuoteBig Al they wore parka jackets and rode mopeds. Any Mod riding a "moped" would have been laughed off the road and scorned in the clubs. Mods rode scooters. Not the same. Rockers (the binary opposite to Mods) rode Motor bikes. This is a moped This is a scooter )

QuoteHappy Jack I've been listening to a box set called "The In Crowd" that is a loose playlist of tracks that English Mods in the 60s were listening to at clubs like the Marquee. Its an excellent compilation and worth a Stones fans money considering it contains many of the original versions of Stones covers (Harlem Shuffle, Hitch Hike, Can I get A Witness, Time is On My Side, etc)

QuoteRockman Proceeds from the limited edition 950 copies only book STU compiled by Will Nash went to furthering Ian Stewart's sons university education ..... That's one book that I'd dearly love to have been able to afford. I'm certain that a trade edition would sell enough copies to do more than put Stu's sons through university!

QuoteStoneage And then Bill's son marrying Mandy's mother (I think). You think wrong, fortunately. There were many (quite funny) observations about the tangled relationships (eg Bill's son would have been his step-father-in-law, and Mandy would have been Stephen Wyman's mother-in-law and step-daughter). But they did not marry.

Someone posted the wrong Adam Ant video link! This performance, lipsynched of course, on Top Of The Pops was one of the most sentational performances ever on that sadly missed show... He pretty much took over the entire studio with his sub-stages. As a POP performance, it would be hard to beat. But, the best one that may appeal more to regular people here, is this performance on S

QuoteSomeTorontoGirl Quotekait Oh, yes! THIS is what I would love to see in concert! I hugely agree with you. 'Shine a Light' should have been about this sort of music in a small venue, with a crowd of blues appreciating fans - and not a stadium show in a theatre with paid floozies at the front, sycophantic luvvies behind and a few lucky real fans around the edge!

I could have sworn that I'd read somewhere that the studio was in the basement (which makes more sense actually). So although Bill is obviously right about the address in Denmark Street, is he right about that. Perhaps PHELGE (come in Phelge, your fans need you) can remember as he has an especial bond with Denmark St.

In this thread I've several times posted that the best route from the centre of Melbourne to Hanging Rock is on the Calder Highway and that (despite what Google may offer) going past Melbourne Airport and through Sunbury is not a good idea unless you are a Cricket Tragic. (Which of course refers at least to Mick & Charlie). The reason to go through Sunbury was that it would take you

Quotegotdablouse The only real multi-channel mix of Stones music AFAIK is "Sympathy For The Devil" in fabulous 5.1 from that SACD sampler issued in 2002 with the SACD (not multi-channel) rereleases. There are many great real 5.1 recordings out there but the one I prefer is Gilles Martin "remix" of some Beatles' songs for the Cirque du Soleil "Love" project.

QuoteLadykiller Some guy told me, that Mick Jagger used also a teleprompter during a concert of the A Bigger Bang Tour. He was standing in one of the stage balconys and saw this from his place. I hope this is not true, because I would be disappointed in some kind of way. Sorry to disappoint, but he was definitely using one as far back as "Steel Wheels" in 1989. From memory, I thi

In the 70s, and early 80s there was definitely a UK published version of Rolling Stone. I strongly suspect that The Rolling Stones had nothing at all to do with it. It was based on the USA version. It had some UK only articles, and did not carry all of the USA articles, and (I seem to recall) was shorter/lighter than the USA version. I had a subscription for about 10 years, but gave up wh

QuoteCousinC Don't know if there's a connection. But when I did a Stones Fanclub in the late 60's I' got letters from the London Stones office signed by an Annabell. Thanks (& to Christiano). No, it's definitely Ann (or Anne). And the family name is definitely "Belcher". Still digging....

I have chanced on the name Ann (or Anne) Belcher possibly in connection with very early Rolling Stones' history. It definitely rings bells, but I cannot find any written trace of her. Does it mean anything to anyone here?

Quotevertigojoe Hope your wife is ok! Me too! I had to cancel a trip a few years ago in similar circumstances, and there was totally NO problem with recouping the air fares. Depending on the small print in the policy, you may be able to get back the Hotel costs... and there's a tiny tiny chance for the tickets. Ring the insurance people as soon as possible.

QuoteHis Majesty My worst book votes go to... Jeremy Reed - The Last Decadent An awful, bollocks, absolute load of shite book. An arena large enough to hold the scale of my agreement with you does not exist. The only reason I have not shredded my copy is that I keep it to show people what sort of narcissistic crap is written by people who know zero about such an important subject.
