QuoteAquamarine This is by far my favorite song from the album, by the end when that groove gets locked in, wow--I'm singing it for hours afterwards. And bouncing. Me too!!

They messed it up. I’m surprised that it’s slower. But then I know zilch about current trends in so-called ‘dance’ music. The original would get me out on the floor in seconds if it came on a party. This version would not. But then I’m 61 and I’m not the target audience… I miss the guitars….

Yes I knew I’d get comments about SOL - but it’s a strong melody on an album that is not exactly bursting with them. I also wonder if it isn’t autobiographical- Mick opening up about his ‘awful bad’ behaviour towards Jerry Hall. Interesting comparison with INXS -the drums and guitar fills on Look what the Cat Dragged In reminds me more of Undercover of the Night. Dangerous Beauty might have be

One of the key reasons Hackney Diamonds is such a satisfying listen is that Jagger has re-embraced the idea of crafting an album. At the time of A Bigger Bang he was saying things like 'no-one listens to a whole album any more'.He had lost interest in sequencing and so the last three albums were shapeless. By contrast, Hackney Diamonds has been crafted to make two coherent sides of an L

Disagree. Even Keith admitted the album was ‘dull, it didn’t happen at all’ in an interview with Mat Snow for NME in ‘86. ‘we just took turns to go into the studio and piss around with the tapes’ he said. So if Keith doesn’t rate it, I’m well within my rights to find it less than great. Too Tough is loud and fast somehow completely lifeless. It and and All the Way down sound weak, formulaic to me

The Stones have tackled soul, blues and funk, so why not disco? I find it simply joyful. Irresistible. But then I love 70's disco like KC and the Sunshine band, Chic, Earth Wind and Fire, Bee Gees, all that stuff. If 'Mess it Up' doesn't make you want to move on first listen, I can't imagine that it ever will. But then some people here like a dreary plodder like '

After all these years with Ron Wood on guitar, this is the first time that the stones have sounded like the faces to me. A well judged change of tone. The sequencing of the album is one of its many strengths.

Quotetoorude No, it's Five Foot One you should listen to.... Yes you're absolutely right. It's Five Foot One. Very similar riff and a great track in its' open right. Not a copyright issue as the songs take different directions. But a very similar riff....

The opening guitars remind me of Led Zeppelin III. The song would have fit on 'Its Only Rock and Roll.' Some of the guitar parts remind me of 'Through The Lonely Nights' (which should have been on IORR) I'm enjoying the album - but I'll be hoping for more songs in major keys in the next one.

The first one apart from 'Angry' that had me wanting to move on first listen. Great track. This is destined to be a Marmite song, reading the earlier comments

Quotekeefriffhards Quotedoitywoik QuoteStonedRambler Have I missed anything? Yeah, another recurring theme appears to be that ABB wasn't a super-great album. "It Won't Take Long" being the stand out track from ABB, didn't even get released as a single, plus its better than the two new singles from Hackney Diamonds, it's hard to work out the politics of this ba

Quotetreaclefingers Quotebakersfield Got to admit that a guest spot for Macca and Ringo would be fun. Strictly as a one off. ‘I wanna be your man’ maybe? With Ringo on vocals! Oh heavens no! No Beatles album was enhanced by the inclusion of a song featuring Ringo singing. Imagine if the Stones had done the same with Charlie Ringo on drums would be just fine.....

Yes that was Paul Morley, if memory serves. I remember him saying in his introduction to the piece that his mum had warned him to 'be careful' when he left home that morning, having told her that he was off to interview Mick Jagger. I had the article among many others in a Stones scrapbook that I tragically left behind when i ran out on a landlord who'd threatened violence. T

It would be fun to see the Black and Blue cover updated with 2023 faces but I don't have the computer skills to do it.

I have Sonos 'Arc' and the rear 'one' speakers. 'Honk' and 'Goat's head Soup' sound amazing in their 'Dolby Atmos' versions. I'm hoping Apple music will stream 'Hackney Diamonds' in that format. Will have to buy the CD too though.

I wear similar trainers all the time due to Arthritis. I find any other shoes painful. They also make me taller than my natural 5’7” - that may also be a consideration for Mick!

'The Sheffield Beatles Project' playing Sgt Pepper and Pet Sounds in full in December. Last year they played Revolver in full plus much of Rubber Soul and a few other beats cuts. the band consists of university music lecturers and students. The quality last year was fabulous. Strings, horns, you name it. About 20 bodies on stage. Also going to see Darkside - a Floyd tribute at Geleri

Surely 'Undercover' has to be the worst ever cover. Tacky in the extreme. I was busy on the day of release and I asked a fellow student who was going into town to get me a copy, He was not impressed...

We're over thinking it. It's just marketing talk and doesn't merit further analysis. It is aimed at the general public, not us. 'The new era' is NOT going to be 'all future re-releases will be oven baked flat transfers from true stereo master-tapes' or something similarly nerdy.
