Going Home is the last track on side 1 of Aftermath, so not an album closer. (Unless the cannibalised US version is different to the UK release?) Interesting to see 'How Can I Stop' dividing opinion. (I love it) favourites YCAGWYW Shattered Crazy Mama least favourite: on with the show (less likely to divide opinion, I would say)

I paid £40 to get into the Astoria and seeing them up close was a thrill, but Wembley arena two days later was a much better gig.

I won't see the band this time. I'm on holiday when they're in Liverpool (that's my bad) and having damaged my knee recently, I simply can't stand up for hours on end at Hyde Park. Has the band not realised that most of their audience is getting on a bit? (I'll be 60 in July) Chiropractors in the Greater London area must be rubbing their hands with glee! How m

It's a really good question. Although I wouldn't hesitate to say that the big four from Beggars to Exile are the best albums the band made, Emotional Rescue (especially on sunny days for some reason) is more frequently played. Side one of GHS is also played a lot (even more so since the remix) What I listen to the most is my own, expertly crafted 'best live performances

I think if male artist had put out 'The Globe sessions' he would have received a lot more respect. It's a really strong album. there's a lot of sexism at work in music sadly.

QuoteMathijs Quotedcba QuoteMathijs I think this is the first release where Mick approved three flawed tracks to be released: Melody, which is an impromptu jam while Ronnie is away, Luxury, which is as Mick calls it aptly 'a shambles', and Worried About You, which has Keith very much out of tune for most it the track. Mathijs I see it as a kind gesture from Mick to the trainspot

I wouldn't change LYKL as such, but I might get round to making a playlist with all of El Mocambo plus these from Love You Live If you can't rock me/get off of my cloud fingerprint file you gotta move sympathy for the devil I'm not sure there's anything I'd add from LA 75, except perhaps the unedited IYCRM/GOOMC might replace the shorter LYL version.

There aren't many times in your life when something you always dreamed of turns out to be even better than you hoped. El Mocambo is certainly one of them. Im sitting here listening with a great big stoopid smile on my face ))

I think you did. I came on board in '76 with Black and Blue but quickly learned to appreciate Exile. I have bought more copies of it than any other album. Just one thing Thommie - what the heck does periphrastic mean? I taught English for years but you've stumped me there. It sounds a little like Blackadder the Third to me

When you add the price of travel and hotels it's not surprising. i'm away on holiday when they play Anfield (or I might have rolled up on the night and sat in the stands) and the prospect of Hyde Park, when you add the price of travel/hotel from my home in Anglesey is just too much, especially when it's just to witness the carnival one last time. With a subbing rhythm section and K

I was at the Sheffield gig last week. I'm not a Pink Floyd die- hard by any means but I thought the music was tremendous. (I don't understand what I call the 'whimsical stuff' like 'Bike', but I must have been the only one present, and the rest was great), The love that flowed between crowd and artist was palpable. 'Echoes' was a highlight, and Gary Kemp wa

Springsteen, as I read him is all about the search for connection. How, in the face of life's pressures you can stay connected to those around you and emotionally alive, when the temptation to put up walls and engage in other self destructive behaviours is ever present. He means a lot to me (an Essex boy living in North Wales) and, famously, he struck a chord with Sarfraz Manzoor, so Kent ma

There was a great cartoon in the NME about 30 years ago (or longer) It's funny if you are familiar with the works of Oscar Wilde. It shows two men examining a portrait of Keith Richards, and one is saying to the other: '@#$%& me Dorian, this picture's worse than you said!'

I don't understand the Red Hot Chilli Peppers appeal. It might be the way that they record - I can hear the instruments but i can't hear the room. Consequently it sounds lifeless to me....I don't hear songs, just jams with words on top... and the guy doesn't have a very strong singing voice. Sorry don't get it. Another classic I can't listen to all the way through

Am I the only one who think this is Rolling Stones perfection? Six minutes of pure joy. It swings, it rocks, it does everything I love the Stones for. I've just been dancing around the kitchen to it, wearing headphones, and quite honestly I was nearly moved to tears, it's that good. What a band....

I don't agree that ABB is well produced, The drums are unimaginative. Just boom boom bang, boom boom bang, over and over. Charlie used to be able to light up a track like 'It Won't Take Long' but it's musically dull. Nothing swings. Maybe it's Mick on drum as Charlie was ill around this time; who knows? Rough Justice is great. But if you compare tracks like Driving T

Can anyone help? I was at the Astoria in 2003 and I've since managed to lose my ticket. Can anyone send me a scan or something I can print to take its place in my collection? It was a white ticket with some yellow trim. Thanks

Quotetreaclefingers Quotebakersfield On record it underachieves - it's so restrained that it's almost lifeless. Wow...you are in a serious minority. Well, that's how it was received when it came out,'Could have been truly great' is what Nick Kent said in the NME and I agree with him. I don't dislike it,I'm just saying it's played every tentatively.

Were those who slag off the 81/82 version there in person? It was incredibly exciting at the time (I was there the first night, and thus I was spared the infamous train wreck) Pure adrenalin. The revved-up punky version went down a storm at Wembley. On record it underachieves - it's so restrained that it's almost lifeless. Ariel Swartley reviewing Emotional Rescue for Rolling Stone

QuoteVoodooLounge13 I personally just find this song to be sooooooooo overrated. I should have another listen mate! 'Beast of Burden among their worst songs? Are you serious? Please name your favourites, I'm fascinated ) I like the '71 version (roundhouse?) that starts with a jam btw.

I didn’t see them in 81 but 82 certainly rocked. I was at Wembley June 25th and it was blistering. I’d also like to say thank you to the Stones organisation for putting El Mocambo be out. It’s been he Holy Grail for years - and yet this thread is nothing but squabbling and moaning. I despair.
