Roy Buchanan was an unbelievably good guitarist. Think of him cutting loose of Love in Vain. Too bad it never happened because that would have been one of the all-time great guest spots. That said, I couldn't imagine him ever taking the Stones second guitar job full-time.

I still hold a grudge against the Rangers for leaving DC in '71. I live near their former home stadium.

Quoteslew Keith says it was 30 years ago. I'd be willing to wager that he has not been completely clean for the last 30 years! He has admitted to dabbling during the B2B tour.

I have an iPod, but haven't made any changes to the tracks that are loaded on it in five years. It serves as a hotel room jukebox for my wife and me. Otherwise, I listen to music the old-fashioned way: vinyl and CDs. Nothing beats a good piece of vinyl, and there was never a more perfect listening unit than the LP side.

If the Yankees ain't there, at least I can take some satisfaction in knowing that the Phillies aren't there either. There are no more obnoxious, despicable sports fans on the face of God's green earth than the cretins that crawl out from under rocks to attend Eagles, Phillies and Flyers games! May they all go home, eat their greasy little cheesesteaks, and rot.

I was born and raised in the New York City metropolitan area (though in New Jersey 25 miles away) and worked in lower and midtown Manhattan at various points in my late teens and early 20s in the late '70s and early '80s. NYC was always the place to be; it "really had it all, oh yeah." So various songs from the Some Girls through Tattoo You period gave me a bit of local prid

Texas won because Phil Hughes can't pitch in big spots. That choking dog cost the Yankees two games in the series. With games 3 (Cliff Lee), 4 (AJ Burnett), and 7 (Lee) being pretty much guaranteed wins for the Rangers, the Yankees had to take care of business in games 1, 2, 5 and 6 to win the series. While they did so in games 1 and 5, Hughes's pitiful performances in games 2 and

Stick a fork in 'em. The Yankees are done. As a New Jersey native and Yankee fan who lives a mile and a half from RFK Stadium (where the Washington Senators used to play until they bolted to Texas and became the Rangers), I don't much care for anything having to do with the Texas Rangers.

With games 4 and 5 on Tuesday and Wednesday in NYC, the Yankees are stuck with a steaming, heaping pile of Burnett on Tuesday. Starting Burnett is the closest thing to a forfeit as I've seen in postseason ball since the Yankees trotted out washed-up Kevin Brown to start game 7 of the ALCS in 2004. As attractive as it would be to skip Burnett entirely and go with Sabathia on Tuesday, th

Well, Aerosmith (Steven Tyler and Joe Perry) did pretty well, the New York Dolls (David Johansen and Johnny Thunders) not as much (financially at least).

They're human, and they've done plenty wrong. This is a band that has never been noted for its consistency. One learns to take the good (Satisfaction, JJF thru Exile) with the bad (most of Goats Head Soup and It's Only Rock 'n' Roll, half of Dirty Work). When one starts to think that anyone can do no wrong, one has reduced oneself to a mere sycophant, devoid of all j

The 5.1 mix drops you right into the front row in that it features a fair amount of applause in the rear channels between songs that dies down when the band gets into a song. Notice how, during Bitch, Keef is playing a Telecaster in some shots and a Les Paul in others, and how, during the end of Happy, Keef is well away, at least 10 feet, from the microphone, but his background vocals are loud

The B-stage started as a place to play a few songs that hadn't been part of the repertoire in a long time with a scaled down band (no horns, no backup singers). When I saw my first few shows with a B-stage in 1997-98, those minisets were among the best live Stones I'd seen. But once they started with the warhorses on the B-stage (as early as late 1997), those minisets became less spe

Their personal p-ssing contest has already lasted for 30-something years without destroying a nearly 50-year business relationship. So why should a few more shaken drops down Keith's leg get in the way of a good thing?

Quotecustom55 The Who: Kilburn 1977 DVD. The second disk is a show from 1969 at the London Coliseum -> it is K I L L E R Unfortunately, the London Coliseum footage isn't very well filmed, and the Kilburn performance is dreadful, arguably Keith Moon's worst gig.

The 5.1 surround mix of Station to Station can be summed up as follows: the trains at the beginning of the title track swirl around the room, then the album is primarily front, center and subwoofer speakers with the rear speakers being echo off the back wall of the soundstage. If you're expecting to be bombarded from all angles all the time, you may be disappointed. Try the stereo surroun

Even Keith Moon is terrible at his last full gig, which is documented on the Kilburn show. However, the Who in 2000, with Zak Starkey, was a reasonable imitation of their old days.

My living room! Seriously, they never played Yankee Stadium. I'm pretty sure that they never played the old Madison Square Garden, the theatre underneath the current one, the Academy (though the Winos played there) or Hammerstein Ballroom. And they haven't played either the Prudential Arena or the NJ Performing Arts Center in scenic Newark. But otherwise they've covered Meado

I've purchased a lot of these megaversions of classic albums from the 30th Anniversary Born to Run to the 50th Anniversary Kind of Blue to the recent Exile, Raw Power and Station to Station packages. The mega Station to Station sets the standard: A variety of different masterings/mixes of the album proper, a killer contemporary live set (David Liver?), and lots of stuff. Sure, it's p

My lovely bride and I were lucky enough to see him at New Orleans Jazzfest either last year or the year before closing a second Thursday afternoon at the Congo Square stage. What a marvelous set! I'll never forget it, that voice. Even in a wheelchair, he commanded AUTHORITY! At least he went out on the way to a gig, a soul singer with total command right to the end! And he had a GRE

In the great professional wrestling steel cage match, I'd give the nod to the Stones: they had one more member, and Lennon and Harrison were too pacificist to brawl. On the other hand, Perky would have been too busy trying to give girls in the front rows his room number, and Brian Jones would have been distracted by beating up his lady of the moment who rushed to ringside from the wings.
