Quotecrumbling_mice Quotexke38 I listened to it again over the weekend and still think it's Let it Rock, called out with an American accent - maybe Bobby Keys? Why would Bobby Keys shout Paint It Black? It wasn't on the set list, he wouldn't play on it if it was and it aint his type of music anyway. Not having listened to it over headphones, I'm still a Let it Rock propon

That would be the approximate production level for the three years 1958-1960, probably with a few '58 Goldtops thrown in there too.

It is reckoned that the vintage guitar market in general peaked in 2007 and has declined somewhat since then, maybe showing occasional signs of stabilisation but without any definite signs of a recovery being apparent. The market for ’58-’60 Sunburst Gibson Les Pauls (i.e. the top end of the market) is not immune to these influences, although it is possible that the most desirable Bursts (exc

QuoteTooTough As much as you envy those who went in 1990, I envy those who went in 81/82. Best tour ever. I went to the 82 and 90 tours and envy those who saw the '73 tour (e.g. my parents...). On the other hand, I envy JumpinJeppeFlash for being 16 years younger than me. On the other other hand, I don't envy my parents for being older than me. Life can be a bit complicate

QuoteTumblin_Dice_07 So cool. Love to be able to play a '54. Just out of curiousity, how would you characterize the feel of the neck? Strats from '56 and '57 had the V-shape profile and some of them I think were rather large ("boat-neck"). I'm thinking in '54 they didn't have a definite neck shape. Also, that '59 must be from relatively early i

It's a June '54 one. Its serial number is 0255 (on the neck plate, as opposed to the trem cover, which would have been the case for the very first few Strats produced).

QuoteStones62 Woof! One pre '58, one '58 or '59 and one '59-'61. Did I get the dates about right? Exactly - well done (assuming you hadn't read my last post, that is...)!

QuoteTumblin_Dice_07 Quotexke38 Trio of pre-CBS Strats Awesome man. I love those maple neck '50's Strats. I'm not crazy about rosewood fretboards on Fenders. I don't mind it on Gibsons or other guitars, but on Fender's I just much prefer the look of a maple neck. What years are those from? One of those sunburst Strats looks like it might be closer to a 3 tone

Quotexke38 I bought RL a couple of years ago after having come accross some YT-footage of I and I (which now seems to have been removed). I was actually quite disappointed with the RL version, as MT's playing didn't reach the heights of the YT version. I can't remember which concert the YT I & I footage was from, it may have been Newcastle.

Quotewhitem8 Real live has a blistering version of Masters of War and a fantastic version of I and I. Yeah, the mix isn't great, but MT is on fire on the entire collection. Quotestones78 This to me is the beginning of the decline, there are no memorable songs to me (same for any album that came after, except Tattoo You), and some songs are pretty bad, which I cannot say of any song until and including Some Girls. I’d say ER was more like falling off a cliff than the beginning of a decline (I do however like a few of the songs from their later albums)!

Some less highly rated albums work because they include a few strong tracks and some work because, despite the absence of really noteworthy individual tracks, they come across well as a unit. As far as I’m concerned, neither is the case with ER.

QuoteElmo Lewis Thanks, stonesrule, I knew you would have the facts. You and I have discussed Gene before. He was not the source for this story though. Just some poster on the LS board. Thanks as always! I really wish you'd share more with us about your days with Skynyrd, Elton, Jimi, etc. - Stoneswise and otherwise. According to Gene: "Ronnie had been drinking and that tongue

Here's another short thread on the topic: RvZ v MJ FYI - Gene Odom was Skynyrd's security manager. He was also on board the plane on the band's fatal flight and survived the crash.

Quotetreaclefingers In fact, making it illegal seems to exacerbate the problem, and create an entire criminal culture to go with it. + 1 The Mafia would not have developed the way it did had it not been for prohibition in the USA in the early 20th century.
