Altamont weirdness notwithstanding, Mick and Keith are longtime pros at handling tough crowds. Check out 'You Gotta Move' in Berlin 1970. Whistles rain down from many in the audience not liking the accoustic set (although others applaud to show support). Keith actually cuts the song off early. Mick then shouts a sarcastically upbeat 'Thank you!' - then an even more sarcasti

Hey, I noticed that on 'Honky Tonk Women' Charlie started the song, not Keith. Moreover, as far as I can tell Charlie didn't play the cowbell intro, he just launched into it. It sounds good, too! I recall that the Stones played HTW rarely in 72-73. Was this just a one-off intro by Charlie? I like it in any case.

His 1970's 'Sun Goddess' period was massively popular - and musically influential - on the west coast where I was living and recording. He got major airplay on the east coast with the soul-rock fusion tune 'This Ain't No Fantasy' around the late 1980's. As recently as 2008 or so he had a notable hit on modern jazz stations with an instrumental remake of '

It sounds like Keith is doing this using the G and B strings, which is very common and cool sounding. The steps: 1. Put your first (index) finger on the B-string note you want to play. 2. Put your second and third fingers on the G-string, the second finger one fret higher than the B-string note played by your first finger, the third finger two frets higher. 3. Strum both strings at the same

Yeah Gustavobala. Saw War in 1981. They were that good live. The show was packed. 'Low Rider' had recently come out. On the very first note of 'All Day Music,' it sounded like every girl in the arena screamed. Tremendous show with no special effects or other pretensions. They simply rocked and funked out.

Great point Sicilian. Also, on the recording you can hear Keith showing Mick Taylor the chord changes to the intro just before the song starts. They huddled together briefly behind Mick J. while he was introducing the song as one 'we've never played before.'

Fedex Field, Washington DC in 2002. Keith played 'Tumbling Dice' earlier than the setlist called for. From my not great seat I could see Lisa Fisher and the other singers off stage taking a planned break - then they heard the opening riff and came running back out to do vocals. Keith and Ronnie were laughing at the mistake. The song came off well, however, and the audience likely ne

When we were taking the long, long foot trek back to our cars after 'Street Fighting Man,' I remember hearing more than a few people (who didn't know about the stabbing fatality but had witnessed the rest of the mess during the Rolling Stones set) laughing and saying 'This could only happen with the Stones.'

Thanks Cristiano. As one who was there, I can verify that Santana turned the place out. People were REALLY impressed, particularly with Jingo.

Mick's vocal range increased considerably starting around the '94 tour. He began hitting high notes he would never have tried earlier and he can still reach them, it appears. In some ways he is technically a better vocalist today. And it has to be counted in his favor that he positively screamed his lungs out on a brilliant version of Midnight Rambler in 2006 in Baltimore, the la

Those are in fact the chords to the chorus of Wild Horses that Kieth is playing: Am - C - D - G - F - C. It's very clear when they get back together following Mick and Mick talking.

Seeing the Grateful Dead in 1972 in Palo Alto, California. A friend said before the show "If we're lucky they'll play for four hours!" They played for 5 hours and 20 minutes. Started going back to church after that - I had experienced what hell is like.

I bought Ya Ya's the same month it was released, and playing it on a decent turntable, amplifier and speakers/headphones, I (and people I knew) considered the sound excellent. Like some of the folks above, we thought there were LOTS of highs/treble. If anything, it sounded better to us, audio-wise, then other lives albums at the time.

I was there, standing in line for tickets to the Winterland shows in SF. The line was out the department store (from the second floor), out onto the street and around the side of the building. The Ticketron computers broke down the very first minute the sale began. I know this because I walked through the crowds and right up to the ticket windows and watched the proceedings. Every 10 minutes

When a person sips a drink it can make parts of the face - including the nose - look gaunter. So one might expect Johnson's face to appear a bit thinner in the table photo. Not saying it's him, but that's a factor the expert probably considered.

Love the Stones' version because of Micks' iconic 'Owwwww!!!!' at the end. Emmy Lou Harris's live version rocks too.
