yes, I saw Stevie Wonder at one of the Winterland, SF shows in 1972. I did not see the whole show as I and my group arrived a little late. I do recall him having rather short hair and bouncing up and down a lot ... a background singer led him around the stage doing this at the end of the performance. He was definitely a hit with the audience. I recall him playing 'If You Really Loved Me.

For what's worth, this morning on BIG 100.3, a Washington DC classic rock station, the DJ stated that Mick said 'Absolutely' when asked if the Stones will record a new album. The DJ said that Keith's new record will be supported by some kind of concert activity, followed by rumored Stones' shows (an allusion to a South American tour?) then, in 2016, the Rolling Stones re

The post by bleedingman is bloody offensive. ... You forgot 'Mercy, Mercy' (opening selection from 'Out of Our Heads'): Phil Spector, Zoom Bass. "We took Bill Wyman's spare amplifier for everything we could get" - The Rolling Stones

Actually, the most conservative setlist is from the group of setlist haters. Same tired old song, over and over and over and over. The Stones were opening some concerts on their previous tour with 'I Wanna Be Your Man,' and were playing 'Around and Around' and 'Lady Jane.' Their 2002 tour featured different setlists for club, arena and stadium shows. Somewhere

NICOS: at 25:00 the song is 'She Smiled Sweetly.' Hilarious concept, well done.

Oh my God - listen to what Keith does at about 53:51 during the break on Midnight Rambler ('Well you heard about the Boston ...'). Instead of the usual hard but clipped chord, Keith lets it sustain for an incredibly long time at deafening volume. The effect blows the audience (and me) away. WOW. Keith does it all four times - absolutely beyond demonic.

Viva 71Tele! The dog poisoning news was on a major radio talk program here in DC moments ago. What a terrible act. On the plus side, at least no 'Walkin' the Dog' jokes yet.

She Saw Me Coming GREAT song. Excellent Keith riff and hard groove by Charlie. Catchy, definitely tongue in cheek lead and backup vocals. Whoever played slide (Ronnie?) sounds great. Understandable if people don't think it fits the profile of a 'serious' Rolling Stones cut, but it's a hell of a lot of fun!

Must agree with Mathjis, Witness, hypnohighball and the many others who love this song. If you were listening when this song came out, it was notable for the excellent production values - very good highs, the acoustic strumming in the second half of each verse really makes it rock, the strong drum and bass groove, the intriguing piano in the chorus. Way good for mid-'60's. Mick&#

I agree with goldylocks - it's a rollicking roller coaster ride. Super energetic, the guitars are screaming. The problem was that they completely missed the middle breakdown the first time (... well, Keith tried to do it but no one followed him), then the second time they attempted it Mick wasn't ready (he may have assumed they would close out the song without it), and so they didn

They played it at First Mariner Arena in Baltimore in 2006. It was absolutely menacing. Mick's harp was fabulous.

vibrolux: I was the one who drove you home!!! ... Just kidding. But in truth, I saw the Stones on the same 1969 US tour - at Altamont. I was just a bit younger than you. I've written about it many times on iorr. My cousin heard (emphasis on audio, not visual) the Stones at the Oakland (Liv'r Than You'll Ever Be) shows. After the concerts sold out, Bill Graham violated num

Mick's range has increased since the '90's and early '00's. He has hit many high notes on stage that he would never have attempted in the '70's and '80's. Many, many bootlegs confirm this. His vocal range and interpretation in the studio are more ambitious (and successful) too, on both Stones and solo records. I'm less sure about the cur

Muscle Shoals / Exile / Black Crowes sound, with their own twist as well. Strong guitars. The vocalist is superb; surprising range. Given the genre, naming themselves 'Temperance Movement' is ironic, or just suicidal. Very good band.

Altamont. I've already written about it on other IORR threads, but I guess my favorite song from the show would HAVE to be 'The Sun is Shining.' The only time on the tour they played it. I definitely remember people in the audience looking at each other and asking what song THAT was, with lots of shrugging shoulders. BTW, I had a very clear memory of Mick announcing they we

Actually, the recorder sounds fine pitch-wise, relative to the guitar and bass. And Brian does indeed go absolutely wild on it; now I see what Keith meant when he said Brian could pick up any instrument and play the hell out of it. It's Mick's vocal that's out of tune. Really, really flat. In fairness to Mick, though, the song is clearly too high for him post-studio, plus sou

Harvey Fuqua co-wrote this??? Groooooan. I used to do endless recording sessions with Harvey when he produced Sylvester and the Weather Girls. We would go until 3:00 a.m. in his Berkeley, CA studio, just he and I, working on musical ideas. Only 3-4 years earlier, as a young teen, I had bought the Stones' boot 'Bright Lights, Big City,' as well as Bo Diddley's greatest hits

The second Beggars Street Inn video of the three, 'Live at Whisky A-Go Go,' is a great sound for a trio. The drummer is really kicking it. Guitar and bass sound excellent; clear yet very hard-edged.

Wow, this thing is strong! The transition to the A in each verse is really powerful, vocally as well as musically. The spoken lyrics are particularly effective. The faux ending is superb. Love the burning drums too. Musically as well as in terms of the video, it's great production values plus, simply, a tough, tough song.

CBII, your guitar work on the Arena Moscow version of 'Johnny B. Goode' is positively slammin'. The tone kills, and your attack has the whole band driving forward. Really impressive; I had to go back and listen again!
