That Steppenwolf track reminds me of 'Johnny B Goode's Good' by The Pirates.

I've always thought George Thorogood's best Berry cover was 'It Wasn't Me' because it's one of Chuck's rarer numbers. video:

Completely agree. 'Just For A Moment' is every bit as beautiful as Ronnie Lane's best stuff with The Faces like 'Debris' or 'Glad and Sorry'.

Both versions of 'Just For A Moment' are great but I prefer the vocal for additional poignancy. It's up there with Ronnie's other great tracks for The Faces such as 'Debris'. video:

'Ride On Baby' is another underrrated track that I think fits this genre. I've also got a soft spot for 'If You Let Me'.

In a related theme, teh first Jesse Winchester album produced by Robbie Robertson is also worthy of consideration.

It's better than FTC. Sounds like it could have become something really good with a bit of extra work.

First Stones show I ever saw. My overriding memory is of awful cavernous acoustics. I enjoyed Knebworth later that summer far more.

'King of California' is a great album. I find his voice is far better suited to a sparse acoustic backing.

I think Robbie gets a bad press for his decision to call it a day. As I see it, he basically had to carry the Band for a number of years when quite clearly a number of its members were pretty unproductive. I don't think we'll ever know the full details but I can understand his stance as it must have taken a personal toll.
