Yes i believe he was the best.
Not a song writer obviously but probably the best biggest star of them all.
Not a too shabby actor either.

MICK JAGGER is the BEST.

Frankie is DEAD.

Charlie, Keith and Ronnie ain't bad either.

Why did Frankie not lick Hank Williams shoes in the 50"s last centuary?

haha; someone needs to mark their posts with HM:
(hall monitor) nyuk nyuk.
there is only ONE thing that ANY of these threads is REALLY about heh heh
and it ain't Sinatra, or even really The Stones; when i was a kid i did the stroll; now i do the scroll.

Frankie? he's GGGrrrreat, the Chariman of the Board; bigger than life in every way; that voice in the forties and especially, imo, the late fifties was just so incredible, smooth but full of passion; a key interpreter of the very best songwriters; and ALWAYS w respect for the songwriter. He wouldn't let a song go by without respectfully mentioning the writers. just super. I even thought his most mature voice before it started to crack and wane, in the 60's was very moving and powerful. A complex guy; a heavy hitter; an amazing story this stringbean skinny kid from a rough part of Jersey...amazing Mr. Franics Albert; all respect...\
more than fair to say very, very hip to the swing.
he'd cut all his tracks live too; with a full orchestra and some guests to keep him on his toes. worked like a dog and his product was super. I got lucky and got Nice & Easy and into that era Capitol stuff fairly early, about late teens, and it would be awhile before I'd REALLY 'get' him and know how to find the stuff that really moved me...and the stuff that changed the world in it's time. all respect to Mr. S.

Love Sinatra. Can't say "My Way" is a great song for anybody, but he interprets the lyrics well. I've listened to Sinatra since I was in my mid-teens which puts me back in the stone age, no pun intended. Interestingly, back in the 1980s, maybe early 1990s, he had a line of food items. His red sauce was really good. I discovered it at an Italian deli I shopped at in Baltimore. Mastellone's had freshly made mozzarella and Italian sausage - sweet and hot - to die for. But, getting back to Sinatra, just like many singers and bands, he had his most fertile period than the rest, hit or miss. My fave song by Sinatra is "Summer Wind". A perfect listen, IMHO.

Regarding discussing music, maybe following the words of the late Duke Ellington sums it up best re the topic: "There's only good music and bad music".

Frankie's version kills me; it's better than Elvis'
only better version I ever heard was Sid.

well the video has 46 million views - someone likes it and I would argue that another great song - so underrated - Should I stay or Should I Go by the Clash... This song is like a fine wine that sounds better every time I hear it !!!!! And it Rocks!!!

Ok I get your point- I tried to change the Subject Line to OT: no avail. Maybe the mafia is involved? Rumors still exist with that great singer.

It's easy. Look at the subject title in this post. Simply edit your opening post and insert OT: in the subject line..

I always shunted Sinatra when I was younger as music for 'old people'. I then saw a documentary about couple of years ago and realized how brilliant and skilled he was at his craft. Sheer magnificence!smoking smiley

Sinatra I think is a giant, perhaps the giant....but isn't Dylan in his own way sort of right there too?

I can't stand him. His voice, his gimmicks, that whole winking and clicking his fingers thing, his looks, his image, none of it.

He always makes it sound so easy, almost conversational. Just try singing like that then you'll be impressed. Harry Connick, Jr. does a pretty good job.

The problem I have with Sinatra is what I perceive to be a complete absence of sincerity in his voice. I just don't believe a word of what he's singing .... unless it's a song about being a prick and being proud of it.

This comparison is made even more interesting by Bobby Z's recent infatuation with Sinatra's songbook. Dylan clearly feels some kind of kinship to those songs.

Though not technically immaculate, Sinatra's voice is one of the treasures of the 20th century, in my opinion. He "reinvented" himself several times over the course of a long career, too, setting a standard for how a huge pop star could respond to changes in the culture around him.

And, from a musical pt of view, it just doesn't get any better than his Capitol years. Wonderful songs, delivered with a real swing and 3am blues feel. He sits atop mid-centry American popular song for me.

It's funny on here, the hostility towards the thought that we might have other loves in music or want to discuss a talent like Sinatra because he's not Rock like the Stones . It comes across as jealousy. I mean I love Mick and Keith as writers and performers but they haven't really got singing voices to compare with the greats.
Personally I love so many types of music and singers that it's a shame we can't discuss a man like Frank Sinatra on a music forum like this without the crap. The guy was incredible, if you don't get him or like him there are plenty of other threads.
Its not like the Stones are so active right now that this just gets in the way of everything.

In fairness, I think this would have been a pretty straightforward, non-controversial thread had the original post been marked "OT;" then people could have just jumped in or ignored it, without feeling like the OP was trying to say there was some sort of Stones connection.

OT: "Forever Country" - Best Country Video I've ever seen

We all know the Stones have always had sort of a soft spot in their hearts for country music.

This video has actually been out for over a year, but I just saw it today.

Very well done in every way.

Enjoy!
