"Calling on the vocabulary of the occult, we created tour visuals for The Rolling Stones’ epic anthem – Sympathy For The Devil. Weaving a hypnotic tapestry of endlessly looping symbols that echo the rhythmic samba beat, the elements draw reference from all things dark and mystic. Haitian Voodoo, Mexican Day of the Dead, paganism, talismanic symbols, and even Russian prison tattoos all combine to summon the Lord of Darkness himself. A series of different themed centre screens, side screens, and IMAG frames were created to allow flexibility on tour. It was an immensely satisfying process creating the animation for The Third Company, and we were extremely proud to be able to bring something new to such a classic Stones song."

Here's a MTV 'rockumentary' called Rolling on, aired in 1988 and included on Wonderland Records DVD box set Keith Richards – Solo Works - The Video Collection (WLR-2146), which can be of interest for some people here.

From Zentgraf:

26th October: US TV (MTV) ‘Keith Richards - Rolling On’. Incl.
- interview with KR (Los Angeles, 31.8.88)
- rehearsals for Take It So Hard-video (KR/Steve Jordan)(L.A. 31.8.88)
- interview with Waddy Wachtel (Los Angeles, 31.8.88)
- interview with Ivan Neville (Los Angeles, 31.8.88)
- footage thru the years
Note: repeated on European MTV on 6th November.

OT: Who's who Along The Watchtower?
Posted by: dmay ()

Came across this clip. Interesting to watch and try to figure out who's who on the stage. Outside of the main players who are all those other folks swelling the crowd? And, I must admit, while watching this, I developed a fondness for the poodle pelts on Dylan and George Harrison's heads. And, is Bob crying or sweating at one point? Enjoy.

"Thank" you, that was horrible... Only Mick seemed to realize how embarrassing the moment was.

Well pounding away on the skins is old Zippy aka Anton Figg who interestingly enough I just seen sitting behind the skins on none other than Joe Bonamassa appearance on Conan Tuesday night .I wonder if he is in his touring band ?

Talking about live versions of All Along the Watchtower I agree 100% with on this one. Neil Young's version at Bobfest comes close, imho.

December's Children - Slow it Down released in 1968.

This Band took the name of a Stones Album, but with that song released in 1968, one can wonder if the Stones themselves didn't grab some inspiration from that track for Gimme Shelter...

We need to look at all music- Ok I'm guilty being caught up in Sinatra Music. Just have I appreciated the Allman Brothers or even the Four Tops for that matter.

It is all related - music is all connected- just like ETWF sings " If you feel down and out Sing a Song - It will make your day!!!!

Ok I get your point- I tried to change the Subject Line to OT: no avail. Maybe the mafia is involved? Rumors still exist with that great singer.

"At what?" is the operative question here. At singing a schmaltzy hamfisted lyric like "My Way"? No doubt.

His oeuvre is full of things like "Nice'n'Easy," "In the Wee Small Hours," "Come Fly with Me," (really, anything with Nelson Riddle) on which you could build a case that he's the pre-eminent interpreter of American pop songs.

But "My Way" is a little rich for my blood.

Love Sinatra. Can't say "My Way" is a great song for anybody, but he interprets the lyrics well. I've listened to Sinatra since I was in my mid-teens which puts me back in the stone age, no pun intended. Interestingly, back in the 1980s, maybe early 1990s, he had a line of food items. His red sauce was really good. I discovered it at an Italian deli I shopped at in Baltimore. Mastellone's had freshly made mozzarella and Italian sausage - sweet and hot - to die for. But, getting back to Sinatra, just like many singers and bands, he had his most fertile period than the rest, hit or miss. My fave song by Sinatra is "Summer Wind". A perfect listen, IMHO.

Regarding discussing music, maybe following the words of the late Duke Ellington sums it up best re the topic: "There's only good music and bad music".
